Especially for small guards, finishing at the rim is one of the most difficult skills. However, with the proper technique and meticulous work, it can become anyone's strength. Check out how above.

One of the best finishers in the nba to me is monta ellis the way he absorbs contact has endless amounts of acrobatic counters really helped my game and just watching his games and mix tapes since his golden state days and trying to emulate them especially for his size has helped me become a really good finisher

**MOST IMPORTANT** DO YOUR WORK EARLY!!! Post defense starts before the catch when the big is trying to get position. • #1(Best) Option: Front him. Get your whole body around him and literally have your legs squared to whoever the passer is. This is best because the defender HAS to throw a lob over the top which in proper team defense will be picked off by your teammate on the weakside •#2 Option: 3/4 on the low side so that because of the angle of the pass, the big will turn into the middle where again with proper team defense, one or more of your teammates will be there to blindside him & force a TO. Often a travel or just plain strip. •#3 Option: Dont let him make contact with you trying to get position. Literally dont let him touch you, constantly be active around & behind his body & poke your hands a lot and make eye contact with the passer. The goal is to make him think its not a safe pass and he'll give up and just swing the ball •Dont 3/4 high bc he has an easy dropstep and 1
@Babydurant35allday
@Babydurant35allday 8 жыл бұрын
If he does get the ball and youre stuck on his back, youre screwed more often than not. But IF this does happen, which your #1 goal should be for it not to, you gotta use some tricks as youre physically not gonna be able to do much to stop him from scoring 5 feet from the hoop •"Pull the chair". When the big tries to back you down, time it so that at exactly the moment he pulls his back into you you release contact from him. He'll fall over trying to bump air. Its like literally pulling a joke on your friend and "pulling the chair" when he tries to sit down •Draw a charge. NOT FLOP LIKE MARCUS SMART. Legitimately stand your ground in legal guarding position (butt down, sternum/back straight) but if the big tries to AGGRESSIVELY back into you (think holding turbo in the post in 2k) take a charge. Its just like taking a charge on a ballhandler. Stay squared, when you see the defender dip his shoulder, thats your key. Dont be a pussy and flop however
@tyler8447
@tyler8447 7 жыл бұрын
As a big, just try to knock the ball out of his hands. unless his shoulder is completely turned 90° on the back down, pull the chair out and steal the ball. Not, see if he turns his chest towards the rim. a good big will keep his shoulder between you and the ball, but a lot will turn back around. the trick is to swipe UP not down. swipe down and you will probably be called for a foul. swipe up and it's clean. Good Luck!

I am a 2 leg jumper and imo, 2 legs is more explosive than 1 leg vertically. However, going off 1 leg allows you to get to the rim in more of a gliding fashion and allows you to jump further imo. With that said, I prefer going off 2 legs because you can jump higher from stand still and going off of 2, does give me more balance and the ability to observe the contact better it seems. Just my opinons. Great video though.

@ByAnyMeansBasketball
@ByAnyMeansBasketball 8 жыл бұрын
One key thing that I have picked up on lately: look past your initial defender. See if there is help defense, and if they are paying attention. If not, make a simple move--this is where you quickly use your handles--and go past. From there, things should open up.
@ByAnyMeansBasketball
@ByAnyMeansBasketball 8 жыл бұрын
Also, just watch the nuances of our videos... For example in the Chris Paul video, notice how he reads the defender's momentum to decide which move to make. All of these will accumulate to make your ball handling abilities much more useful.
