We bought a house here in Ohio with 10 acres. My hubby bought a very gently used Kubota and it's been great. He scrapes the driveway, digs holes, drags trees, has made and maintains a trail plus more and it's been great!

You all are a breath of fresh air for me. Since retiring and moving in with my dad and stepmother I have been helping with caretaking. I rarely go anywhere. Not complaining. Oh you have been bringing back many memories. In the late 80's we bought an acre and a half, in Dover Florida, built a 2 story barn style building moved into that unfinished and lived in it for 4 years while we built our big house. We did everything in stages septic and water first. The phone lines to the house came later (before cell phones)so we added alligator connectors and stood out at the construction pole and connected to the phone line. I sang Green Acres all the time. It all took a long time but what memories.

I wish I could help with the new pool. We install pools in the Virginia area. Since online shopping and retail are about the same price. My hands are tied. But my advice. Since you are going with an above-ground. Make sure you put in a floor(main) drain. And get a salt system to make your chlorine. Those 2 things will make your pool less stressful and easy to maintain. Coming from a pool business owner.
@2krazyketos
@2krazyketos Ай бұрын
Hey Val, I'd love to pick your brain about the one we are getting. I have seen things about main drains so I will have to find out if the installer will do it. We are going to have him hard plumb it. His fee for hard plumbing is only $200. We are opting to not get a salt system because we have it on our current pool and with all the rain we get, we don't save much money since we are always having to add salt. I think we are going to get one of those ion systems

Hey Joe, also wanted to comment, you talked about the regen and emission’s on HP over 26hp, it is true, but wanted to make sure you consider. If yall are planning on raising livestock such as cattle, ext. Hay is going to be a big part of life, I know you can do square bales, and believe me, I did square bales one season, but managing them, moving them and the volume that you have to have, it is unwanted work. We switched to round bales, easier to manage. However, you will not be able to pickup and move 5-6’ round bales with anything less than 45hp. Just some things to keep in mind.. awesome to see y’all moving in to the homestead area, we simply love it: raising our own beef, and other foods. We have gotten in to preserving and freeze drying. It is all so amazing and fun. We also got big in to solar to be almost 100% independent and stand alone. Excited for you all!!! Alex D.

So excited for your new journey! We live in the Finger lakes region of NYS and yes,we're one of those snowbirds 😂 We have family in Cocoa ❤ My husband was born in Lakeland! We went to visit where his house used to be and the traffic was horrible lol and unfortunately the area wasn't in the best of neighborhoods now. But the journey was fun. What a amazing deal on all that wonderfulness! We found the secret to having amazing smoked chicken is to marinate it in pickle juice. It turns out moist every time!

Re Tractors: We help maintain 30+ acres of our family’s old cattle pastures (no cattle now unfortunately) with fences, ponds and woodlands. In 2021 my husband chose LS MT342 tractor w/front end loader (no cab). Its predecessor our old smaller Massey Ferguson has maintained the place for decades with no loader but WOW what a convenience having the loader! He shops local independent dealers for implements like grapple, bush hog, box blade, discs, etc. He says their quality is usually better than chain store implements. His second choice was Kioti. We are in Mississippi. Good luck with everything!🎉

We use to live in Arcadia. Loved Arcadia. We had 10 acres there. We’ve owned both a ford (new holland) and we currently own a John deer which we bought in ft Myers. If u buy from them directly u don’t pay taxes. We bought a zero degree turn, tractor with front bucket and a post hole digger. We had a bush hog on our ford tractor back in the day. Love both tractors. We rented a kubota for a month and loved it also but it was way too expensive. We now have a John deer and the reason we went with them is because they r built in usa. Arcadia floods a lot so beware. I would move back in a heart beat. I use to live on bull pond rd. Just outside of town off hwy 72 I think it was not far from kings hwy. easy commute to port Charlotte. I was a nurse in the operating room back then in port Charlotte. If u have any questions would be more then happy to answer if I have the answers. lol. I’m so jealous

My hubby uses it to move hay wagons, rake hay. Depending on what you use it for, you might need a 4 wheel drive one. There is also smaller Case tractors.

This new move sounds exciting. There is so much to do and learn. You will definitely not have to worry about a gym membership. If Rachel is watching things, I suggest that you check out a couple homesteading channels. Living Traditional Homestead is one. They are keto but love to show what they are growing and how they handle the problems on a farm. The other one is Pecan Grove. It also has another channel called Deep South Homestead. They raise cattle and have shown a lot of their way of feeding and breeding cattle. Also look up other natural ways to create breezes and cooling in this hot heat. Looking forward to seeing Rachel on a tractor. LOL, Rachel once you get moved into your new home, you can start fermenting your own kimchee. That way you can add all your favorite seasonings.

I wish I could remember how many acres) y'all are getting. I live in the mountains of NC and have a microfarm (approx. 3 ac I raise sheep and chickens. Nine years ago I purchased a new Kubota BX2370 with the biggest belly mower, front end loader and pto--love it!!! I was a very bad girl and only checked the fluiids and greased some joints a couple of times in the 9 years and it has run like a top, I just sent it off for a major service because I have been negligent. You might also look at Mahindra tractors along with the Kyoti . Occasionally I wish it was a little bigger but most of the time it is perfect. Your land is probably flat and won't need the power that is required to pull up steep inclines so probably don't need to over power(spendy). Someone else commented about round bales vs square bales. I have used both with out a giant tractor. While I prefer square bales I have had to get a few round bales and just used my pick up and pulled the bale off using a tree or t-post. Any help I can give just let me know. I also inherited a 15,000 gallon round Doughboy above ground pool that is half submerged on one side(remember mountains). It may need to be replaced soon and not sure if I will or not. Love your excitement.

Joe, take a look at the TYM I have the 5520CH, I would consider it the most compact tractor that has a cab. So AC/HEAT, WHICH IS CRITICAL in Texas. I has enough HP to run all the implements, but compact enough to get around and do the small jobs. TYM is a very reliable brand, parts easy to get one thing I love, TYM lets you work on your own tractor without voiding the warranty. We have five acres, raise cattle and a small farm. Let me know if you have questions.

Yeah I researched the Massey however there are no dealers within 100 miles of our property that sell them. We ended up going with the Kioti ck2620 HST. It has a front end loader that is capable of 1900 pounds of lift to full height. We also got the Back hoe, finish mower and grapple. We ended up getting the front end loader for free so the price was over $10k cheaper than a Kubota or John Deer and it has 700 pounds more lift capacity

as yeah. The big difference is the lift capacity. We looked at the TYM, bobcat (made by KIOTI), kubota, Massey and mahindra. They were pretty much all the same in the 25 hp category. The KIOTI has 2 of them, the cx and the ck. The ck uses a 40hp engine that’s been throttled to be under 25hp so it has more lift. We ruled out John Deere because I didn’t like the proprietary front end
