@@ElysV135all beautiful kind smart women break men's hearts (more or less) when they refuse them. If that woman has not slept with the man, it is even harder for the man to stop feeling for her and want to admire another woman. I have noticed men have very strong feelings for women when the relationship was not consummated, when the attraction is high while women have stronger feelings after both partners have been deeply and intimately acquainted and years of being together have passed. So i think breaking his heart would have been inevitable. But her no chosing any other man made it worse bc he could at least watch over her and maybe hope he will be united with her in the afterlife.

@@janka482 it's one hell of a difference when you refuse to date somebody as opposed to the state when you are actually going to get married. It's like yeah, let's get to know each other against planning a life together. As I have said, if somebody has a calling to be a nun, or is feeling different kind of atraction to same sex, they should not be leading on other people. Imagine a guy doing that to a woman who is like 35. Last chance for having a child, and suddenly he wants to be a monk and leaves her. He basically robbed her of her potential family. These are possible consequences of situations like this and it's despicable.

I think it was Dolores who was in a movie called Francis of Assissi starring Bradford Dillman. Francis came from a wealthy family but gave it all up to live in poverty as a Friar. Dolores played Claire, Francis and Claire fell in love but he gave her up for God. Claire then became a Nun herself and worked alongside Francis. They both became Catholic Saints. So Dolores's own personal story is similar and the movie probably helped her to make up her mind to become a Nun.

@@lily5952 No I'm not sure about how it is now, but most nuns are considered "novices" for the first 9 years of joining the convent in the catholic church and on your 9th year is when you take your "final vows". By the time year 9 arrives, you learn everything you need to know and decide if you can commit yourself to live your life as a servant of God. Many Girls by year 9 have left the convent, and more have joined. Its not any type of excommunication it's a personal choice that's made by the nun who is living the life.( But year 9 is basically when you are married to the church after dating for 9 years..) Lol

When peace is found and it is fulfilling, spiritually nourishing, and worthwhile, it is easy to understand following this vocation. She couldn't be herself, was always attached to, controlled, and never truly free. The decision was not of the moment. It was reasoned and considered. She was fully aware of what she was giving up and committed fully. Would that we all could be strong enough to choose the seemingly unpopular path.

But as a child everyone knew I had a calling even the sister at my school said so but we moved so I never saw the sisters again. I’m 63 and single and I still know what I was supposed to do but after a terrible accident and a spine injury I just stay home. In my Irish Catholic family, the thrill of having a son or daughter enter a religious order was unsurpassed. One year for my birthday, I received a nun doll!! She was fairly large. I was never sure if one should ever play with a doll in a nun’s habit! What would you do? Dress up is out. Hairstyles and makeup, no. So, dates were nonexistent! In the 6th or 7th grade, this was a Catholic school of course, nuns came to speak to us, or shall I say “recruit” us to consider joining a convent. I must admit I thought about it.

I had a similar upbringing, my parents had 12 children. Brothers we’re all alter boys. We went to Catholic schools. When the nuns tried to recruit us, I knew i couldn’t ever be a nun bc I didn’t want to grow up to hit children with a ruler (calling out Sister Rachel).

Overall, nuns get treated like garbage compared to the priests who are placed on a pedestal. Patriarchy. Ugh...

@@liannelamonte5017 They're not though. Where did you get that idea? Oh just assuming things. I went to a Catholic school run by nuns and all of the nuns there were educated. All had college degrees (mostly social work). The school ran a law center that offered pro bono work for women and children escaping domestic violence. They also had soup kitchens and scholarship grants. Nuns don't sit around and do nothing and they most certainly aren't treated like trash.

Dang, people just question one person's actions which 'caused a broken hearted man to never marry and we immediately jump to conclusions making him out to be a bad guy? I think we women are more empathetic than that.

It might be sad for the guy, but everyone has free will. I'm sure she didn't expect him to remain single. That was his choice. The lady did what she wanted, she was true to her heart. That is the best outcome. Hopefully you don't think all women should be married just for the sake of it.

She followed her heart and what he calling made her feel. It’s unfortunate that she waited to almost be walking down the aisle with this man who lover her and who she loved to make the final decision, im sure that was extremely heartbreaking for him. But sometimes you just follow the heart and at least she did it before getting married.

I’m pretty old now. But it was not meant to be but no one deserves to have other people not even a nun be ignorant. And many of them were. It’s not like applying to college. It’s harder and you have to know why you keep on going back to the same feeling. I had that feeling from grade school to college and long after and I visited a few places but you don’t just become a nun. You have to live near the community and get a job and show up for studies and make enough money to get back and forth. I flew from Philadelphia to Minneapolis and then to Toronto and back home all in one year and I had to go back to work. But this one order was very hurtful by saying I didn’t have any business calling them and they hung up. Don’t be surprised when someone you think is pretending to be perfect is the devil in disguise. I’m not talking about Dolores Hart. I’m betting we would have been able to talk about alternatives but not allowing a visitor goes against the rules of Saint Benedict. I found my happy place in Weston, Vermont. Look up Weston Priory!

I spent most of my youth on fishing and My Dad and I spent years together on the water and we always talked about us catching a huge Large Mouth Bass. A Monster Bass that would pull us out of the boat 😮Well I finally caught one. Dad had passed and I had no one to show it to. The next day I showed a man in a one man canoe I was tent camping and after I showed him I released the monster back into the lake and my Dream was gone. Over Done. It’s so lonely at the top when there’s no one to share it with. I can’t even begin to imagine how God Feels. When Know one even takes the time to read The Love Letter He wrote for All His Children. The Bible!!! Chapter by chapter verse by verse hanging on Every Word like a love letter that The Word Is.
