LOL there is absoluteley no place for the turbine, fuel, all those sensors, ammunition, armour, wheel suspension and the personnel equipment, beside from the stupid layout and the illogical access hatches. But it looks good on screen.

@@soqq7037 I dunno, Space Shuttle APUs were 100 kW gas turbines and are only 20x22x18 inches. With a few hundred years, I could see a ~300 kW output with only taking up the passenger seat... but that's just the turbine, still a lot more to cram in there.

Wait a sec. are you telling me that they took inspiration from the carts that pull planes out of docking or whatever they are called, I’m not English sorry. If so then that is pretty cool yet funny at the same time😄
@HellsRaven4444
@HellsRaven4444 4 жыл бұрын
For all those talking about the low clearance. The APC has a normal ground clearance of 22 cm that can be raised by a further 30 cm through its hydro-pneumatic fully active suspension allowing a full half a metre worth of ground clearance for more rough terrains. This is something that gets skipped over a lot in analysis videos and reviews for some reason despite being on the technical manual. For comparison, the US army's HMMWV Humvee has a standard clearance of 16 inches or 40 cm.

I say we take off and nuke the site from orbit........it’s the only way to be sure....!!! 😊👍 Fun fact: My colleague and I worked as Systems Administrators in a school together for 11.75 years. Both incurable sci-fi fanatics, we devised a way to reboot all the workstations in a classroom with the click of a mouse. My radio call request for this before carrying out maintenance on 30 Windows XP PCs in a classroom thus went; “Hi Marc, can you please take off and nuke “The Badlands*” from orbit.......it’s the only way to be sure....” * The ICT Suites all got sci-fi designations too! There was one in an outbuilding called....Deep Space Nine! Fun days!!!

It was a Huntslett towing vehicle that Ron Cobb based it on. This thing is enormous, weighing in at 72 tons and James Cameron was worried that it weight would have caused it to fall through the floor of the Acton Power Plant, but luckily, it didn't, and filming had commenced.

@Al Bundy for President Not the cast, one of the camera men. The thing was so massively heavy, there was a shot where the APC was meant to drive right up to the camera and stop, but the brakes weren't in the best condition, so it almost didn't stop quickly enough and would have run down the camera operator.

The shortest barreled 20mm gatling guns in history. They'd be seriously inaccurate with low muzzle velocity (unless they have some future super propellant) and probably have very short barrel life. Still one of the coolest movie vehicles ever made.

I was thinking about the low clearance, but then I realized who's to say it doesn't have adjustable suspension? It makes sense because it's designed to fit in a small dropship (and we see that the main cannon is lowerable, also). Those large wheels could give it great clearance if it did.

To all the people saying “oh its a terrible vehicle because low ground clearance/bad transaxle/no space for engines/whatever” i have this to say: Aliens takes place in the year 2179. Thats about 150 years in the future. Who know what technology we could have then? 150 years ago it was 1871. We were still using steam engines fired by coal to run ships and trains. Electricity was just becoming a thing machine guns hadnt even become an important part of war. Neither had submarines, and airplanes hadnt been flown yet. If you took a modern Abrams tank, or jet plane, or missile, or iPhone, or refrigerator, or microwave, or really any piece of modern technology back to 1871, the people back then would be baffled. They would be astounded and completely blown away. People back then didnt even know how to make an ariplane, but now, 150 years later, airplanes and helicopters are a normal part of life. My point is, a lot can change in a century and a half. Who’s to say they havnt discovered engine technology that we cant fathom yet? Who’s to ay they havnt been able to improve on suspension designs and make them smaller and more compact?? Who’s to say this design isnt a good idea with the tech they have in the future? I highly doubt anyone here has the qualifications to say that any of those things is IMPOSSIBLE. Sure maybe not feasible with our level of tech, but thats not to say that in one and a half centuries it wont be possible

or perhaps it was built to look cool in a movie using a Hunslet air tug as a base to build on. You know a vehicle that spends its life on a airport apron. Applying too much real world dynamics to a film prop then nit-picking it apart is a bit redundant. It looked good and tough but ultimately was destroyed leaving the characters vulnerable thus servicing the story.

Yes, it might have been built on an airplane tug chassis and the low ride adds to the appearance. But, the attention to fine detail is what makes the movie so great. Or, maybe it has adjustable ride heights.

Great Video! Many of the 1986 Sci-Fi features of Aliens that the Colonial Marines had like Command and Control capability of the Troops of the M577 is now standard equipment on vehicles like the US Army Stryker Armored Vehicle. The capability of knowing what the medical stats of the troops are is currently being tested and will hopefully be standard issue soon. Rail Guns are still very large and use a lot of power but I cannot wait till the Pulse Rifles become Science Fact instead of fiction and I want ONE! Just like in Star Trek the Fiction of yesterday is the Fact of Today and I can see many of the weapon systems of the m577 will probably be Operationally available at a Much Larger Scale like the kind on a Naval Ship not a School Bus size vehicle within the next 20-30 years if not sooner.

@@oldleatherhandsfriends4053 I know that! The Iowa Class Battleships had Analog computers that allowed them to shoot a 2000 pound shell over 20 miles and hit the target they were aiming at while the ship was moving! That is not the kind of stuff I was referring about. A RAIL GUN is a weapon that fires an Aluminum Projectile without the use of any gun powder it uses Magnetic force like and the shell speeds along the rail increasing speed very quickly to between 4500 to 7800 MPH. Problem is that it TAKES A LOT of Electrical Power to generate the Magnetic Field Required but the US Navy is making great progress in that field the USS Gerald Ford Aircraft Carrier uses Magnetic Catapults instead of Steam Catapults to launch its aircrafts and the systems have Basic Principles in Common. here is a video that shows the prototype of the Rail Gun: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/a559oLKhuNOYfI0.html

Seems like a indoor battle vehicle. On ground with no obsticles. Otherwise it would stuck by not have clearance to the bottom.

Pray you don't have to cross over rough terrain in this vehicle, though. Like a lawn or tennis court. Lowrider APC.

As much as I love this thing from a visual/sci-fi badasserry perspective... no amount of technological advancement will make it viable in the real world. It has no ground clearance... a tall speed bump would stop it cold. It's heavy, despite being classified a "light APC", and rolls on wheels, instead of tracks, which compounds the clearance issue: those four wheels would have tremendous ground pressure causing it to sink into the terrain on anything softer than concrete. Only having one main entrance/exit, on one side, nonetheless, is problematic. The primary weapons aren't exactly positioned optimally... reminds me of the M3 Lee/Grant from WWII, which suffered greatly because of similar placement... IN a real world situation...

What APC's in current use have main exits/entrances on more than one side?
@Riceball01
@Riceball01 4 жыл бұрын
@@oldleatherhandsfriends4053 The BMP? It has a hatch or hatches on the top from which the troops inside could, technically, enter and exit from, even if they're meant to enter and exit from the back. The same goes for the Marine Corps LAV, although they're not really used as APCs. Marine Corps Amtracs also have a top hatch from which Marines could, technically, exit and enter from although, like the LAV, doctrine dictates that they do so from the rear of the vehicle.

@@oldleatherhandsfriends4053 Of all the legitimate faults I pointed out, THAT'S the one you focus on? I point blank said I LOVE this vehicle on SCREEN, but the point of this video was to rate it's REAL world practicality, and I stand by my original comment: it has NONE. Now, OR in the future.

Its unfortunate that we dont have pictures or more lore about the Colonial Marines vehicles. I mesn, there is almost none about their tanks, IFV (except this APC), fighter jets, other types of dropships etc. I ask the fanbase and whoever is working over titles of this brand: make pictures, concept arts, designs, whatever you want, but do more. Otherwise the brand will just slowly die. Im trying too to do something, but its about a crossover for now, so it will not be canon. 🙏

Could've used armored glass for the driver, not to mention bodywork that didn't dent or an easily broken drive train. You know, basic stuff. No wonder the used them to move crap at airports...basic field use would wreck them.
