I've always connected Mark to Miles Davis in their creativity and how they run a band- Miles was famous for his temper and rotating supporting cast, but it was always a sign of wanting to move forward and try new things that kept the creative spirit hot they both know what they want at any given moment and how to get the right people to achieve that vision. I still have to buy the new album.

Thanks for this. Mark E Smith was fucking awesome. I remember seeing him in Toronto and being absolutely mesmerized by a guy who just stood there while smoking and barking out lyrics. It was fucking fantastic.

Bravo. I saw that lineup with Ben in Los Angeles a while back (front and center, thanks) and they were so solid as a band I was stunned. I totally expected a shambles but big new Prinz and Telephone Thing were simply massive.

Yeah gotta love Tony Wilson, he died way too young. (I wish he could have at least made another Factory...though supposedly he did...two more, and they were both pretty obscure)

Browsing a record store in Detroit. Found a used copy of Witch Trials on vinyl. A friend had raved about The Fall, but I never heard them. Cover art/titles got my curiosity. Staff would normally play it, but they REFUSED more than a few seconds. I couldn't decide if I liked it or if it was just shit, but I felt COMPELLED to buy it, as if priceless artwork at garage sale. I returned the next day for Grotesque. It was gone. Fucking amazing train wreck. Drove my mainstream sis nuts with it.

After watching this a thought occurred to me. It´s like if Alex Higgins had a twin brother, separated at birth - an equally genius, self centred and self destructive, egotistical but insecure alcoholic doppelganger. But what amazing music!

@jackhartcup It's Theme from Sparta FC, the BBC used it on their Final Score football programme as the theme music I think, check out the video of Mark reading the football results, hilarious.
