Want a single mindset shift that can be put into action in less than ten seconds and will change your home? That's what I'm sharing today.
Mentioned:
My books: www.aslobcomesclean.com/book
The "Better is Good" t-shirt: www.amazon.com/shop/aslobcome...
Also, I did figure out where to store the "extra" TV about three minutes after I finished this video. Maybe I'll share so y'all can remind me where I put it when we can't find it in August.

How timely! Lately I have been saying "There. That's better!" after every space I declutter/straighten up and I pat myself on the back. I realized I can easily get a space to look 80% better with 15 minutes. I also realized I am not willing to spend more of my limited time to bring it up to 100% perfect.

I'm right there with you on that Tammy! In a few weeks or months when I do a further tidying/ sorting through it is super quick and you can get the area much closer to being fully minimal/ optimised. In fact I often get a better idea about the task on the second 'round'. G Ire

I love "better is good"! That is so freeing! I grew up hearing "if you can't do something right, then don't do it at all." That was intended to encourage us to do our best and not be lazy. Instead, I learned to do nothing until I could do the task right/to expected standards, because anything less was unacceptable and lazy. It took me decades to let go of some of my perfectionism tendencies, the constant guilt of failure, and the lack of confidence. But I still didn't know how to fix my out of control house. Seeing success when I make it better, rather than failure because there's still more to do...LOVE IT!!! Thank you, Dana! I have read many books over the years, in an effort to "fix" myself and my house, but none have really helped. Yours are the first ones that understand me, and your concepts are easy to remember and implement. I donated the other books. I only need yours now. You were my missing piece. Thank you!!!

I'm better, NOT a failure! Thanks for the pep talk, and the reason to keep working! I just bought BOTH of your books yesterday, and started reading them last night. I know you won't get to offended if when I am done with them (may read parts more than once for extra encouragement) you won't be offended if they end up in my donate bin, and to my local thrift store/ charity where likely another slob might get to read them! So far the books are a GREAT read, I recommend everyone who is a slob reads them, then donates them to de-clutter there home!

I have a solution to the "temporary TV storage" problem: It's your son's TV it goes in your son's room. His property, his responsibility; his belongings belong in his room. By the same token if his room is cluttered and he has outdoor sports equipment, space should be made available in an outdoor or semi-outdoor (garage/shed) space for him to store those. Hope this is helpful, I've been "in your boat" before. : )

I’ve watched a lot of your videos and read your book. This video is SPOT ON for me. I definitely need to focus on better. I, like you, start thinking perfection. Then I stop and say that I’ll get to whatever later. Later doesn’t come. Today I begin focusing on BETTER.

I know you put (in your home) but honestly this applies to so much. I'm behind on work. If I think "get all caught up" I get stuck in overwhelm. But I can make how far behind I am better even if it's just one answered email out of the 500 I have in my inbox, 499 is still better than 500.... I need to exercise but if I commit to "3 days a week" I might do that this week. but when something comes up to throw next week off and I only get 2 then I feel like I failed. But I can make my exercise better. Even if I just walk to the mailbox that's better than the sitting at my desk and then laying on the couch pattern I've been doing.

OMG!! Girl you just spoke to my inner self!!! I too hate failing and I always seem to NEED to know the end goal. Then I focus on the “process” aka the how to and when I don’t KNOW the answer- I get paralyzed mentally and physically. But I never heard what I feel put into words before!!🤦🏼‍♀️ Just make it “better” will prevent my overwhelm. I love you!!!

Your videos are so good. Not just for the information they provide, but also for the humor. Sometimes when we're in that overwhelmed space, we just need to laugh and remind ourselves it's not that serious.

Thank you for posting this video. I needed this. I have 2 grown children's things, my mom's things. (She past away in 05.) My grandma's things. (She passed away in 07.) And my dad's things. (He moved in with my younger sister April of last year.) All over my house. I don't have room for the things I need.

Love the flying water!!! It proves you’re real and didn’t stage this video. Thank you Dana!

You make so much sense in a world I apparently don’t understand. (Else why would my house always be messy/full/cluttered?)

The water just makes it more real than your usual!!! I can identify with children coming home with their stuff. I think we need some boundaries (just like we did with the container method before they moved out) but we also need to be UNDERSTANDING. I love that BETTER helps us avoid paralysis. I suggest letting your child store the TV in their room.

When you see them start, pause the video. Read then, repeat for the rest of it.

I usually do try to pause but they still seem to fast and therefore I still find myself having to re-run it several times 🤦 I'm also usually trying to read them between the cards for recent videos and the channel link. As I said, I love, love, LOVE the editor credits and I WANT to read them SO bad! 😁😍

You said, "Have I solved my problem (of finding a spot for the TV)? No." But you did PARTIALLY solve the problem -- you made the area look better by reducing the clutter there, so it's a "kinda" solved. We want all the brownie points we can claim.
