I had started a new job as a care provider in an assisted living facility 4 years ago. I had been there maybe a month or so when we had our first staff meeting where there was food and sweets available for all. I just piled my plate with only meat dishes because I was doing carnivore at the time (and feeling and looking great--my skin was absolutely glowing). One of the med techs asked me why I only had meat on my plate and I told her that I had been doing carnivore for 2 months and had lost 17 pounds and was feeling fantastic. You would have thought she had seen a ghost. Her eyes got so huge and she started telling me how unhealthy that way of eating was and that I could get really sick from it. Mind you, this med tech was probably around 300 pounds and eating an ice cream cone while she was lecturing me on the dangers of eating carnivore. It was taking everything I had to listen to her with a straight face. 🤣

I was first diagnosed with Type II in 2008. Managed to keep it fairly well-controlled (A1C below 7) pretty well, eventually even without meds. Blood pressure was the same... history of being high, but got it down to about 130/90 fairly consistently. Not perfect, but not going to kill me, so long as it didn't get higher, right? So, I start Keto on 8/26 of this year (my birthday -- a present to myself, as it turns out!). I see my Dr. on 11/23. In 3 short months, without any struggle once I got through the first 2 days of detox/withdrawal, I'd lost 30 lbs, brought my BP down to 110/70, brought my A1C that had started creeping up to 7.4 down to 5.6. Brought my good cholesterol up, bad cholesterol down, triglycerides down, and overall cholesterol down to low end of good range. I also had better, increased numbers for calcium and Vitamin D (all the cheese!), both of which I had been having trouble with being deficient, no matter whether I took the supplements or not. I said to my Dr., "I know at some point I'll have to trade out some of the bacon for guacamole and olive oil..." He responded with, "Don't change a thing. You're making progress like I almost never see, are content with the diet and happy with the results. Only thing we'll change for now is bloodwork every 3 months instead of 6. If anything slips, we'll make adjustments then, before it gets out of hand, but I really don't expect it to." I love my Dr. 😀

Being a diabetic the doctor and nutritionist said you need to eat 6 small meals every day. The diabetic diet is based on these statements. When I ate 6 small meals I was hungry all the time and thought about food all day long. Thankful I am now doing Keto. Very rarely hungry. As others have said…this is a lifetime commitment. My mother, who is a registered nurse and also my biggest bully ever about my weight, would always bring home papers laying out the newest fad diets to put me on when I was a kid. Everyone else in the house was thin and allowed to eat whatever they want, but because I wasn't thin I had to eat diets like the "Military Diet" and the "Cabbage Diet" and she would always say it was because she wanted me to be healthy. If you're a nurse, you should know that these diets are basically starvation and starvation isn't healthy. She was just embarrassed to have an overweight daughter who wasn't into ballet and cheerleading like she was and all she did by constantly forcing me to do these diets and shaming me about my weight and food choices was to give me a lifelong dysfunctional relationship with food. But, thanks to a lot of introspection and personal growth, I am finally working to repair that dysfunctional relationship with food. Your channel has also helped me see that the best way to fight my seemingly impossible to control food addiction is to stay away from carbs and eat Keto for life. So, thank you for the content you provide!

My Dad made comments about my weight that stuck with me. I wasn't even chubby- 5'2" 125 lbs. I was the "chubbiest" of us 4 kids. (The older 3 were thinner, good looking and popular in school) I took after my Dad. He was stocky built w/a weight problem. He might have feared for my future but to do it the way he did was wrong. Teen girls are very sensitive about their bodies. All my teen years I thought I was fat. I wasn't. I know this now. I see pics of me then and it disappoints me that I thought it. This is, in part, how girls get body dysmorphia. Now I am overweight. Looks like I took after Daddy anyway. I weigh 170 lbs and have yo yo'd most of my 57 years. My goal now is to just eat clean/healthy and stop the rollercoaster. Good luck on your goals.

I had a family friend say to me after not seeing them for years "how are you doing??......I can see you aren't going hungry". That's one of the worst things to say because it made me feel like crap and I ended up eating more. When my daughter was 9 months old I found out I was pregnant again but after an ultrasound it showed that the baby had died but never aborted. I had to have a D&C done and for about a year afterward I was in a deep depression. I gained over 150 pounds in that time and I am working on getting rid of it. I have lost about 70 pounds over the years but am a standstill right now. This Covid garbage and losing both of my parents during the last two years isn't helping either. I will keep trying though.

He sent me to a nutritionist who "saw" me over the phone. Her first question: Are you eating plenty of fruits and vegetables and whole grains? NO! Why not? Because all those carbs make me gain weight! Duh! These are professionals giving counter-intuitive advise that keeps people fat and makes diabetics use ever-increasing amounts of insulin. I had one high a1c reading, went keto and completely reversed it. The Dr says I'm his poster child and the only one who's done it. I think that's only because of his crappy advise to all the others. As an "unconventional" exercise physiologist, it hurts my soul every time a client says they want to start exercising to lose weight. While it is important to continue to "move" people have forgotten that you do not need to "exercise" (in the new definition sense of the word) to be healthy at all. It is important to keep your body moving, in what ever capacity that means for u. Sarah and Emily, I love that you garden. And i bet you, you move ur body more than the average person who goes to gym (because they believe that is what they need to do) 3x a week mindlessly sitting on a recumbent bike watching tv (while i hope they are watching your youtube videos). You are filling your cup with things you love that provide movement to your every day, you eat the way the feels good for your body, and you find meaning your work. This is what true balance looks like. I am sorry you had such crappy experiences. i feel you guys. Been there.

Keto for me will have to be something I do for the rest of my life, I’m good with that because while it’s an adjustment I feel better and sleep better so I’m in it for the long haul. The worst advise I got about loosing weight was just have a cheat day once a week so you won’t feel deprived. Yeah my cheat day was an excuse to go back to eating whatever I wanted and in mass quantities.

I'm with you guys: I don't "exercise" anymore, but I do take walks with my dogs, and go on bike rides when it's a beautiful day, and dance when the music moves me. Adopting the keto lifestyle - and finally understanding that my body is carb intolerant - is what's important and it's something I can maintain the rest of my life without the guilt of the "have to's" that others impose on us.

Hello from Iowa! I am 62 years old and have been on Keto since October 21, 2020. I went through Health Transitions in our city to get started on the Keto Diet. It was a 9 month commitment. However, my husband and I are still doing Keto. I have lost 86 pounds so far. I started out at 278 pounds and am down to 193. I still want to get to 140 pounds. I had stalled for three months and couldn’t seem to get past 190. I had reached 190 for a few days and then went back up to 194.6. Then I was back up to 197 a few days ago. I realized I wasn’t tracking my carbs or calories very well. So this week I joined Keto Cycle and have been counting my carbs again. With Health Transitions we counted net carbs. With Keto Cycle we count regular carbs. So this one is much stricter yet I don’t get that hungry. I am back down to 193 and hope that I keep losing it this week to get back down to 190. I am looking forward to getting into the low 180’s and then move on down. I fast every day from 7 p.m. to 12 noon or 1 p.m. each day. I have done that ever since we started Keto back in 2020. I have had a few people tell me that if I go off of Keto I will gain all of my weight back. Well duh! I told them Keto can sustain me for the rest of my life and I am so thankful for this way of eating. I have a good friend that keeps telling me I am going to die if I stay on Keto. First she told me that eating fat was going to clog my arteries and I should be on a low fat diet. I told her low fat foods have added sugars in them. I’m not going to go on a low fat diet. Since I got off of the sugar I feel so much better and don’t have a problem with inflammation like I used to. Then just a month ago she told me there was a study that came out that says Keto causes tumors in your body and I should get off of Keto. I can’t seem to make this friend understand that my husband and I have had our every 6 month check up. We both used to be pre-diabetic. Praise the Lord God we are both healed from that. Keto heals type 2 diabetes. We are no longer pre-diabetic. We both used to have back cholesterol. We both have normal cholesterol numbers now. So eating fat has healed our cholesterol. Then there is an article that comes out every year that says Keto is the worst diet to be on. From what I heard from Fox News that article comes out every year. The writers don’t bother to do their homework. False news strikes again giving Keto a bad rap! My hubby has lost nearly 70 pounds. He is still working hard to get the weight off. We both are. Hang in there girls. Thank you so much for your video. I appreciate you both!

Hey there Emily and Sarah! You two once again are hitting the nail on the head. Really we must lose the weight first so you have the ability and stamina to exercise. The exercise is optional. I think eating keto is very healthy (I'm sure you do too!). Meat, veggies, healthy oils, good fats to satiation. Not obsessing about doughnuts (I tried one and it tasted awful! My taste buds are not interested in that anymore). I was just told by a friend on vacation that I'll just gain it all back if I eat carbs. She couldn't understand that I don't wish to ever eat those bad foods again. Sheesh. She works out and eats and drinks fruity drinks but is heavier. It was totally her way of knocking me down to build herself up. Meh... I'm not even going to be phased by that... I'm just going to keep rolling with my Keto lifestyle and you ladies definitely help make it easier :).

Well someone there swore she knew 4 people who died from keto. I asked for a source. She sent one article about an Indian lady (who had 1 kidney and long standing advanced kidney disease) who died from the kidney disease, and the other “articles” promoting keto- fear were all vegan propaganda 😂 I feel like many people just know so little about keto, and like my mom used to say, a little information is a dangerous thing. Because they think they know… when they are so wrong. Media and propaganda sites always highlight the extremes and they think we are drinking bacon grease smoothies and putting 2 sticks of butter in our coffee . They are shocked (mostly in disbelief) that I eat MORE veg than when I was on the SAD

I'm 6'8" and very broad, and was quite muscular at the time, my skinny ass brother who is 6'5" weighs 40 pounds more than this idiot surgeon told me I should weigh, because of his devotion to pseudo-science calculations.

He managed the tri-state West Coast region search & rescue (USCG) and was constantly on the military's "weight program" the whole time! Because of his natural size, & that he power lifted, his measurements never made their antiquated "standards" that were based on average human size from WW2! Even his WRISTS were "overweight", according to that damn chart!! I was so mad about it~ here's this highly intelligent, devoted, decorated guy who had to drink water, sit in the sauna, & run every day for a week, prior to these weigh-ins. Shame on THEM. *Btw, the year after he retired they updated the charts, saying they were simply "outdated" & not fair to these strapping young men coming into the service these days"~ errggh. 34 yrs!

I then ask “have your studied it?” Then they regurgitate only a snip it of information they think they know and stand tall thinking they have a mortal high ground cause they are healthy as #$@%. It really has infuriated me, however… this is my journey and my journey only. I feel their bottom dwelling opinion of it means nothing to me anymore. I, over all these years, have learned such horrible habits and now know that i do NOT have to eat breakfast to be healthy, and that eating less meals IS ok. Somehow my body will survive the fewer calories. So thank you for always talking about such real shit and for being so vulnerable with all of us, your keto family. I started on keto / low carb lifestyle Sept. 1st , by December 28th I lost 42 pounds, October 2nd I broke my toe and my foot and ankle swelled up, then the end of December again problems with both Ankles got better then Jan. 27 again , my foot dr told me my Uric acid was extremely high , I told him I was eating healthy low carb Keto , he said that probably what is causing it. I disagree, researched the medications I’ve been taking , I have been taking Vascepa 4 a day and one of the side effects is gout. drs should look at the new research and results, just after 3 months on keto I lost 30 pounds my triglycerides dropped 159 points , and my A1C went from 6.7 to 5.9 So I stopped taking the Vascepa it was supposed to help lower cholesterol, I think continuing keto will be better with that.

It seems that some people are not "happy" unless they are discouraging other people. I can't understand this at all. You girls are very honest and I agree with all you have said. I am a woman, nearly 74 years old and have done Keto, more or less, since the late 1960's when the Dr., whatever his name was, came out with the Low Carb Diet. I was in my early 20's and struggling with my weight for the first time in my whole life because I was put on birth control pills. The pills changed, of course, my hormones and my metabolism. What a shock it was to find I couldn't just eat the way I always had and I didn't even grow up eating junk. Second I personally agree that you don't need to exercise to lose weight however it will help tighten and tone areas that may become saggy due to weight loss. I have been on what I call a "ketolike" lifestyle since 2018 and I've gone from 283# down to 246# from a 3XL to a XL/L depending on the material. Some may say that's not much but for me its good because the inches loss makes me look like its way more wt loss. So I think this will be a lifestyle I'll keep for the duration. 😉

Been doing mostly keto-ish eating with hubby under doctor supervision for almost 5 years. We have both lost over 70 lbs. Pre-lifestyle change, hubby was on 11 medications for blood pressure, cholesterol and heart issues. He’s down to 2 prescriptions, soon to be none, Lord willing. Things we learned: 1) we are fat because of what we eat and drink, NOT from lack of exercise. Can’t exercise yourself to skinny. 2) eating later than 6p.m. usually puts on weight 3) ignore the FDA, USDA, American Diabetes Association, American Cancer and American Heart Association recommendations. NONE of them want you healthy. 4) drink lots of clean water (we only drink distilled), get some sun, eat whole real foods NOT food products, stay away from processed or white foods (most dairy, rice, pasta, flour, pastries, cakes, bread) Exception is real cheeses and real butter and cream. 5)healthy self = HEAL THYSELF We were known as “the incredible shrinking couple” by our friends. I was in recovery from a hysterectomy for the first six months and hardly moved at all but the weight came off easily compared to when I did a popular diet program and exercised like a fiend in grad school. I love this video! You hit all the points that pushed my buttons in the past. The one I hate most - always cut your meal in half and put half away. It's based on the belief that everyone stays hungry for a full twenty minutes after they finish their portion. After being on keto for one year, I found I often reached a point where I realized I was only eating because I was required to clean my plate as a child. It was so liberating when I realized I really did not have to eat if I was not hungry and I could put away the food when I got full.

I don't even bother trying to explain to these people that what is causing this epidemic of obesity isn't the fat we eat, it's the SUGAR added to practically everything we eat except meat and vegetables, and the carbs that turn into even more SUGAR.

I appreciate the work you girls put into researching and presenting information. I agree that losing some weight before embarking on a regular exercise program is a good idea. When you are extremely over weight, the extra stress on muscles and joints can .ake even a simple activity like walking difficult. You can become discouraged very easily. Keep up the good work. You both look healthy and happy.

It’s not just losing weight that can ease the stress on joints. Eating way less carbs can lower inflammation that can cause joint pain. Several years ago I was told by my orthopedist that I was a candidate for total knee replacement, for both knees. Cutting most carbs has eliminated my knee pain so much that I’m not getting the surgery!

I've heard all the comments that people have said to you too.... I started low carb in 2003 and tightened it up as the months passed by...I lost 77 pounds and kept it off... This is a way of life that I can't imagine not living now... In 2005 I had so much excess skin that I had a tummy tuck and breast list - not only did I look good, my internal feelings about myself soared. I did it for me and have never regretted it. I do OMAD in early evening, I don't count calories, I eat until I am full. I sleep better, focus better, attitude is better. I didn't exercise either...and still don't..I walk for cardio. Exercise is only 5% of weight loss...so it's not really worth the struggle when you dread doing it. 70 pounds, only 3 pounds was from weight loss..I'll skip it thanks. I'm 63 yrs old, newly retired and feel like I have a whole life in front of me. Also, about every 7 or 8 weeks, I will eat a normal meal, usually going out to a sit down restaurant, not junk food... I eat it moderately, enjoy it and then carry on to my OMAD life... no guilt, no regrets. A nutritionist scolded me about my lifestyle a few yrs back saying I could never continue this life and I am missing many nutritional things that I need..such as an orange, or the benefits of a potato. The medical pros are killing Americans, and the food industry is even worse... Look at Americans...fast food, processed garbage, quick easy reach for bags of chips, fries, pasta... Little 6 yrs old so fat their arms don't rest at their sides...think of 10 yrs from now. I'm healthier at 63 than most 20 yrs olds and my labs prove it. You girls carry on..ignore the advice, keep doing what you are doing... good for you that you found the secret to health and wealth of life. You both look great.

Bravo ladies! The most difficult thing I have to explain to righteous people who are on a low fat, often high sugar, diet who still stuff themselves with carbs is that they are effectively eating sugar! They just don't understand that carbs are turned into sugar for energy by the body... I'm never giving up Keto, it really works for me and it's simple x

I get so pissed at people whoare so jealous they can't even acknowledge a person has lost weight. My oldest sister informed me I would just gain it back. My friend who weughs 100 pounds +, more than me wanted to give me her clothes she was too big for. I'm 5'10" and she's 5'4". I'm like looking at her like she grew horns. She can barely walk due to her weight and uses mobility chair, canes and doesn't move unless she's sitting on a chair that moves, but tells me I eat more than her and she is just as active as I am so she should lose weight too. What's wrong with just saying, "Congratulations, you look great!" I guess I needed to vent.

Hi guys!!! Love your channel. One myth my mom used to tell me is that if I skipped meals I could get an ulcer, because my stomach acid would have nothing to digest. I lived believing that for a few years until last year. This month I finished a 7 day water fast successfully. Lost 10 lbs. and feel great no ulcer. Praise God!! May the Lord bless you. Big hug for you my lovely twins and keep up the good work. I also live close to Chicago.

I love to go for walks & move but doing keto was the key to being down 80#’s. Now walking doesn’t hurt my knees. I just like to walk it makes me feel good. I agree with all you said. I love the meat & broccoli! The other things are tempting but they make you feel empty, meat however is so satisfying! Thank you for addressing these subjects! Blessings! 🤗💞

Oh boy that exercise one gets my blood boiling too! Exercise is for your heart health and to build muscle. You can not out exercise a bad diet. Extensive exercise is not needed at all.

I really love this video because I have heard every single bad piece of advice that you mentioned. The one that really gets under my skin at this point in my journey is when people say are you going to not eat sugar and wheat flour for the rest of your life? But they say it in a way that is like a little condescending and that it's unrealistic. Yes. Yes I will eat this way for the rest of my life! For me personally sugar and wheat flour or super inflammatory, I have no control when I consume them, but it was a struggle to remove them from my life but I'm now 18 plus months free of those ingredients. I'm definitely not strict keto but I will tell you my way of eating in general is very low carb. I think it's not high fat enough to be considered keto. But anyway that doesn't matter. I think when people make comments like that it is from a place of being judgmental and feeling like it's unrealistic. I can still enjoy every single bite of food that I eat, live my life, and love preparing meals without those ingredients! To be honest I don't want to ever go back to the old way.

Carrie, don’t worry about how much fat you eat. It’s not high fat that makes it keto, it’s keeping carbs low. You don’t need to add fat just for the sake of adding it.

Oh and as I was thinking about it , eating low fat ?!? , weight watchers is the worst , do you know their prepared meals have about 44 g of carbs ?! wth ! they think by shoving 300 calories on the front and saying low fat that it will sucker you in we’ll it did for me at one point 🤬It’s evil 👿.

I've heard every "piece of advice" you are talking about. UGH...."mind your own business!" But, I don't say that. Now just smile and tell them how much better I feel. I'm eating healthier these days finally incorporating a tasty salad everyday. (Talk about a life changer.) 🙂

I've heard all those things too. Another thing I was told was you can eat all you want just as long as it's carbs and low in fat. Sort of like a reverse Keto diet. Love your videos. You ladies have that great Chicagoland charm....just like me :).

YES! if I eat early in the morning, I'm hungry all day! You are the first people that I've heard say this too, THANK YOU for validating what I know to be true for me! We are all different and have to find our own way to keep ourselves healthy. Thank you for this channel, I found you recently and this is refreshing.

Heard them all, and reacted the same way. A man I knew who preached "moderation" was overweight. Another overweight woman who dissed low carb diets said, 'Oh, but that does something to your metabolism! You gain all the weight and then some when you go off!" Who the hell said it was ok to "go off"? It's a way of life, and the only one that makes sense for many of us. High profit/high carb "food" is shoved into our faces constantly by Big Food and people who buy into their propaganda think low carbers are nuts. We know better.

OMG, you girls NAILED IT on every point you made. I've also lost weight on keto with ZERO exercising. Interesting how eating breakfast used to make you feel - same with me when I was a kid. I'd feel a little nauseous, as well. The point you made about someone saying to you something like, "oh just have a little" of something, it won't hurt. Yeah - that's like telling an alcoholic trying to stay in recovery to "just have a little". Absolutely NOT. It's the same thing. When the carbs metabolize into sugar in our system, it's ADDICTING. The more you eat, the more you CRAVE the carbs. And yeah, LMNT rocks! I look forward to it every single day.
