This happens quite a bit in a lot of 'tourist' restaurant. Bad food, bad service and don't even get me started on them questioning the tip. it's absolutely ridiculous! Thank you for taking one for the team. I live here and avoid those places like the plague if possible.

Stayed 4 nights in 'The New Yorker Hotel ' in 2002. I did walk past the 'Tick Tock' a few times and had a glance at the menu but never went in. Thanks for the video, brought so many happy memories back seeing that hotel again.

I could tell as soon as you looked at the plate before eating it that it wasn’t a good sign. USA just can’t do English breakfasts period. Bacon looked that crispy stuff they put with waffles to me. The Poodles Willys ( sausages) remind me of many horrible chipolatas I’ve had in the past. Agree on the toast. Did they wave it under the grill really quickly? The baked beans and Mushrooms your face straight away could tell you didn’t like them. Eggs yes they were okay. Why put coffee in a metal mug. Is it to keep the liquid hot? The cheekiness of the staff to ask for extra tipping. At least you said why and even left a tip. I hope you managed to find somewhere better later to eat after that appalling eatery. New viewer and subscriber to the channel. Been mainly watching the New York videos, as been 3 times and going back in December '22. That breakfast didn't look great, and have heard of waitors questioning tips left (if not enough) but never experienced it myself (yet). On previous visits to NYC, we had breakfast at Applejack Diner, high up on Broadway. Didn't seem too touristy, and the food and prices were decent. Will be catching up on more vids, for ideas for when we go back. Keep up the good work.

When you went to my family's diner, Empire Diner, you had so many good things to say. We're proud of the selection and quality of our food at the Empire Diner. Our coffee is great and to boot, not served in a metal mug!!! If that server had half of a working brain cell he would've realized he was getting fussy over a dollar... a DOLLAR!!! The tip is calculated on the total without the tax. $19 bill; 15% is $3... 5% more would add one more dollar!!! That server was the one being stingy. Come back to the Empire, you are always welcome there (& have booze also!!!). Yeah, nothing looked appetizing on that plate. The sausages looked like the biggest let down, like something from an elementary school's cafeteria. I think prison inmates eat better. Cheers mate.

Always brings a smile to my face getting a new notification of the McMaster!! Seventh Avenue, Penn Station, Madison Square Garden, it all brings back fond memories of my time in New York. Been blessed to have visited a lot of places but the big apple is still my favourite trip to this day. Getting to the food. The Tick Tock looked a great venue but sadly the food never lived up to the place. I do love the “diner style menu’s”, the silver monochrome vibe which is kind of iconic. Reminds me of the musical “Grease” or the movie “Diner”. I guess the Americans don’t really get the “English breakfast”. I liked the tin cup though. It looked like a mini tankard!! The Bacon like you said looked too fatty for me and the mushrooms looked devoid of form!! The eggs looked pretty decent. The toast and sausage looked thin and in the anaemic side!! Maybe try and find a better “English breakfast experience” on your American adventure. Good choice of music. I would give it a 4.5 out of 10. I would eat it if I was hungry and I did notice you ate most of it. Looking forward to the next one.🥊.x

Contrary to popular opinion, fried eggs are delicate things to cook. They require skill, time and patience. Otherwise they end up with shoe leather undersides, hard yolks and frayed brown edges. Few cooks can make them consistently perfect.

As breakfasts go I think that was one of the most pathetic I've ever seen. Where were the hash browns (which I'm sure was an American contribution to our breakfast)? Not to mention black pudding etc. Regarding the tip, there does appear to be a culture war developing when it comes to tips in the US. The attitude appears to be "if you can't afford to tip then you shouldn't eat out" directed at the consumer, as opposed to the "pay your waiting staff a decent wage" which should be directed at the business itself.

thats the trouble with a lot of the food in some of the usa cafe's they try to improve the dish by adding other flavourings to it, when it was perfectly alright in the first place. we have been to las vegas many times and tried the various buffets, the mash potatoe is always flavoured with various things, leave it alone just add butter and milk.

The last time I was in NYC I had a server do a similar thing to me by questioning the tip. I told him his service and food wasn't great. I even said if he was in the UK he'd be lucky to get a tip!

Great review I went to this diner too the exact same location where you were while I was on vacation in New York two weeks ago for breakfast and I was so disappointed they charge you for everything I thought I could get a easy breakfast meal with pancakes,eggs,bacon or sausage but no they charge for every thing u want a side order of hash browns was like eight bucks so I just order the pancakes and they weren't that good at all Tick Tock Diner is a overpriced diner that I will never want to go to again.

Take the PATH train to Harrison, NJ. A short cab ride to Tops Diner in East Newark, NJ. They just built a new building, to handle the crowds. Excellent food and large portions.

Greek owned diners, yuck! They are all identical in food. Stay away. Love Greek food but they can’t do American food. My mom worked at a Greek diner. They all have the same formulas, suppliers, and recipes and refuse to change. He went out of business. Having grown up around Greek owned diners, I can’t find any I like. I now avoid them like the plague. Love Greek food but not how they do American or Italian or any other food.

I have never been to the United of States but I have spent a couple of weeks in a Murican military base, by the end of the fortnight I was desperate for decent bacon and sausages! couldn't wait to get home. Looks like it wasn't just that base when it comes to lousy bacon and sausage!

Lee the moment I saw that awful breakfast I said to my misses, the bacon looks fatty, and possibly salty, the toast wasn't toast, just looked like dried bread. Those beans looked awful, and what's with the metal cup 🤣🤣🤣 can't they afford proper mugs 🤣🤣🤣🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️. We are at the TikTok diner several times in April 2022 while staying at the New Yorker, the food was different but ok even if a little on the expensive side, disagree on the coffee which was probably the best we had in NY. Some of the staff were a bit surly. As for tipping, I hate the American expectations on this, much prefer the European way - Only tip if you feel it was good and work on 10%.

Sorry sir, but why go all the way to NYC and order a FULL ENGLISH????? Me and a friend ate here in 2018 and found the breakfast really good. Handy tip, the Americans will never do an English breakfast in NYC like a wetherspoons in UK, so why did you order something that's English in America only to be disappointed with the result? It's like an American coming to the UK and ordering American waffles and pancakes only to have it English style and be disappointed. Think your review on tiktok is rather unjustified. It's like an Indian ordering a curry in UK and getting it British tika masala style and saying WTF is this?? 🤷🏼‍♂️😂

I’ve found that about the tips in the states’ I’ve been questioned about the size of the tips on a couple of occasions. Luckily I’m not easily intimidated and told them .

I stayed at the New Yorker a few years and went to that diner and it was poor . Lots of small Italian Delis and the back of the New Yorker which were very good 😎

What one can get for $21 here in South Africa...at least 2 large breakfasts served probably with 150g of steak, sausages, bacon (or macon), eggs, beans, toast, butter choice of jams (marmalade, apricot & strawberry)...you won't need to eat (at least) until dinner and probably a freshly squeezed orange juice and or coffee too. Plus the waiter will be more than happy with their 10% tip.

Went to New york a couple of years back. Iam not one for expensive dining but we stummbled across a pay for weight diner. No hassle grab acarton walk round the food buffet grab a coke, pay, eat. Was very good.

1) If the foods bad, ask them to fix it... If it's still bad the 2nd; well, they deserve not to get paid. 2) You're in America, where restaurant staff gets the majority of their income from tips.... Did the server do anything to cause the bad food? See #1 3) It's New York City, where 20% tip is pretty much the standard - unless there is bad service

That coffee looked like a mug of builders tea. A Fool English with non-bent sausages and no bubble? Darren John would be onto Trade Descriptions. Imagine a Glaswegian going in there 'Whit? Ma breakfast was pure and utter shite...and you want 20% on tap ay it? Bolt ya rocket! Mac every city in the world has these dives, try and source out the non tourist places, places where the locals go.

I'm happy we don't have a tipping culture in the UK. To be expected to pay extra on top of every meal you have as some kind of gesture is bad enough but then to be questioned because the tip isn't the desired size is cheek beyond the pale. I'm well aware,many of these waiting staff are on a low wage but wouldn't paying employees a decent wage and offsetting the cost with higher menu prices be more sensible? It's a completely f-ed up and unnecessary system.

You got an English breakfast with American style breakfast sausages and bacon. Can't comment on how they taste but usual seasoning is different. To get an idea on what a typical breakfast sausage would taste try Jones or Jimmy Dean and bacon, Oscar Meyer cooked crisp. You'd get a better breakfast at a Mom and Pop style diner in New England. That breakfast was a dud and what a cheeky server complaining about the tip. You recovered I see with an enjoyable live vlog with #SilverFox.
