@paullepere79626 жыл бұрын
Here's the thing. Both of them still had 24 hours to socialize or form bonds with people, and they failed at it. According to cast interviews, Jonathan rubbed people the wrong way because he constantly complained about his expensive clothes getting ruined. And Wanda annoyed a couple people immediately over her constant singing. And because of that, people didn't want to work with them so they voted them out. I can understand why it's shitty, but I wouldn't say it isn't fair.

I don't disagree with anything you said. I just find it shitty simply because they went through the whole casting process, got on the show, flew all the way out to Palau, must have been extremely excited. It gave your tribe a slight advantage in the Immunity Challenge. If you played the challenge without using the Medallion, you kept the Medallion; if you take the advantage, you forfeit the Medallion to the other tribe regardless of the outcome of the challenge. It was only used twice and, while the tribe who used it won each time, it was determined to not really make all that much of an impact; it was retired at the tribe switch and never mentioned again. I like redemption island. Hear me out... physical threats and challenge beasts are basically worthless at this point. They stand very little chance of winning. The second the merge happens, they get picked off one by one. In order for them to win, they have to either win every challenge or (in Ben’s case) find every hidden immunity idol, and then get lucky at the end apparently. Redemption island gives these people a chance to show their challenge skills and make a run at the money even if they are targeted for being a physical threat. Just my take. Curious as to what others think.

Surprised you didn’t mention the Kaoh Rong twist where Michele got to vote off a member of the jury
@14shiui16 жыл бұрын
In my opinion, I thought that the jury discussion instead of a jury speech that happened in Survivor Game Changers was an awful twist that defeated the purpose of the jury since the start of the show. Some of the best moments on the show were the jury speeches that were said to the final contestants, and the deliberation didn't work for me at all.
@Peridiam6 жыл бұрын
This is very valid criticism of the new FTC format. It removes the pedestal jurors were inherently granted in favor of openly discussing the merit of being the winner. I think the pedestals gave the jurors a chance to give their final 'hurrah', which made for some great TV, but I also think it made the FTC very static, very rigid. I think we're all OK with that because we're used to it, but I'm OK with trying the open discussion for a bit if only because it does still grant jurors time to talk, but it also kinda makes the 'final' tribal council more of a council than a podium. We'll have to see how it shakes out with a few more seasons. I'm not as hard on it as I am the new F4 twist, which I think is truly awful.
@macrisyjim79036 жыл бұрын
I agree. I hated that the jury get to discuss and have consensus. I much rather prefer having each juror addressing the finalists, having their own unique criteria such as picking a number, demanding apologies, or just destroy the finalists in general.

The game has been bent before before, like the Second Chance tribal council, u know the one, where someone went home because he would be the only to draw a rock. But there was still gameplay to be made, so it was just bent. Cirie leaving broke the game tho. Hence why the legacy advantage is the worst

@@flamingravenmc4058 Cirie did not outplay Sarah; she played winning games in Panama and Micronesia, but in Game Changers, Sarah was the top mastermind of strategic moves. The advantage was not "unfair"; if anything, the fact that it was only usable at 2 Tribals made it less powerful than an idol. And the only way Sarah was able to get the advantage was with good gameplay: gaining Sierra's trust enough that she spilled the beans, orchestrating her blindside and giving a good enough acting job that she willed the advantage to her.

I actually think the Outcast twist was perfectly fine as a one-off twist. If it happened again I would've said it sucked, but because it only happened once and actually fit with the theme I was okay with it. I was also okay with it because the Outcasts actually had to win a challenge against the other two tribes to come back, as opposed to it being a guarantee people returned like with Redemption Island, and the Redemption Island twist completely ruining the momentum of episode after episode. So I was fine with it. Other than that though, I agree with every twist you've mentioned here and enjoying your videos as usual.

Redemption Island is essential in a Blood Vs Water season, because all of those family relationships are so vital to the season, it's such a pay off to give them that extra airtime when the tribe's dirty laundry is aired out in front of everyone. BvW2 really suffered because of the removal of this twist. I remember Jeff saying he knew RI was really unpopular so that's why it was removed, but I think it's needed on BvW seasons, it works so well. Also, Laura Morett's S27 challenge run was legendary, and only added to the drama and tension of the season. Imagine this never happening if RI hadn't have been used, that would have been sad, plus Ciera would never have been able to vote her Mom out and that's an alternate universe I don't want to live in. #BRINGBACKRIONBVW

Both tribes were thrown off the boat with nothing but a bag of coins and told to barter for what they needed in town before going to their beaches. This occurred in a Spanish speaking country and only one tribe had a member who spoke Spanish, resulting in the Drakes starting off with a LOT of stuff and the Morgans starting off with almost nothing. Definitely the most messed up thing was voting two players off on the first day. As Peridiam notes, after the long process just to get to the island, everyone deserves a shot at playing the game. On one hand, it's voting people off that no one knows a thing about before either tribe even goes to tribal and on the other hand it's voting two people off at the same time. Most survivors that get voted out go home and think about what mistakes they made. There isn't much to think about when you get shot down before you have the chance to make any moves at all. Hoping the viewers taught the show never to try that again.

Love your channel! Just subscribed 😊 One twist I didn’t care for, was I believe only done in Guatemala, when Cindy won the car as was given the option to refuse it and in exchange, everyone else would get a car. In hindsight, she could have broken the “Car Curse” or at least taken the chance, if she had and it worked in her favor. I mean, giving up a car reward in exchange for the chance you “might” win a million dollars, is a pretty big gamble. But the fact she was disliked for her her decision by half the tribe and voted out. Oh well, maybe that’s just me, but I thought that was a BS twist, especially when it involved a reward, with no guaranteed silver lining....for example in Tocantins, at the auction when Taj purchased the chance to see her husband, then Jeff hit her with the Exile Island twist, so everyone could see a loved one, but then found out Eddie would be there too....that was a win win. Then again, it’s Survivor, it’s unpredictable for sure.

It’s to motivate players flipping and punishing the others for failing to come to a decision If their is no penalty for deadlocking a vote then we’d see 2 player rock draws at least twice a season which just isn’t interesting

Great video! I personally hated Yul's super powerful immunity idol that could be played after the votes are read. Way to effective, basically guarantees you're never going home. Producers never brought it back till Cagayan where it was bad as well.

Mike Bloom helped me find your channel and I'm so glad he did. I know this may seem controversial but the Fiji merge twist is actually my favourite one off twist the show has ever done. I think to be upset that it got Michelle Yi kicked off is being results oriented. I think you put this in a lot of situations it works out. For example, lets say that it was put in during Redemption Island. Instead of Rob pagonging everyone, he would have faced a situation where he had to work with the other side or have to face that a moment in the game was out of his control which would have made that season better. I think the way it went down in Fiji was bad, but I think if done more times it comes out more good than bad.

I’m surprised Kaoh Rong’s Jury Removal wasn’t mentioned. It seemed like such a cheap way to: A: Add more unneeded time into the finale B: Not undergo the traditional rule that happened in Cagayan and Micronesia to introduce an F2 C: Lower the odds of a Michele win, something Jeff has been outspokenly negative about, knowing production would be pretty clued that Fitz was coming in with a jury favouring her. D: Really just feels like a “fuck you” to whatever jury member who could’be played as far as 37 days and not even get to spectate the events of Day 39. E: Really just break the idea of how Judgement matters on Survivor. Maybe there’s something going on about the idea of a Jury removal if they did something similar to BBCAN3 where the F3 unanimously decided on removing a jury member, but without a doubt, Jury Removal felt like such a dud and a real misstep in a great season.

The two sort-of twists that I didn't like were both involved in screwing over Cirie. The first was the sudden switch back to a Final Two in Micronesia, which completely screwed over her game. Had that been established earlier on, she would've strategized differently since there was no way Amanda or Parvati would've taken her to the end or that she could've beaten them for Final Immunity. The second was in Game Changers where she was eliminated by default after all of the ridiculous advantages converged at once. Since she received no votes in that Tribal, I think she should've been the ONLY one to vote since the first round of voting essentially amounted to no eligible votes being cast. Yes I am a big Cirie fan, but objectively it kinda sucks that she keeps getting screwed by the producers.

WARNING: LOST POST The final 4 firemaking twist that happened in HvHvH was enough for me to rank the season a couple notches down, which is a goddamn shame. It doesn't matter who won that challenge, it's a slap to the face for the final immunity winner to work their ass off to win that challenge only to be told "CONGRATS YOU WON FINAL IMMUNITY, BUT FUCK YOU WERE NOT LETTING YOU PEOPLE DECIDE WHO GOES HOME LIKE WE HAVE BEEN DOING FOR THE PAST 34 FUCKING SEASONS, WERE GIVING THE PERSON WHO LOST FAIR AND SQUARE A SECOND CHANCE!" And for those who say that it helps the "good players" get in. This whole game is centered around using social politics in order to stay in the game all the way until the end. If you cant have strong enough bonds/connections with people that allow you to stay in the game, then you aren't really that good of a player. Take a look at Earl Cole in Fiji, he was a clear threat that was well-liked by everyone, he didn't win the final immunity, but he had strong enough bonds in order to get to the F3 and become the first winner to get every vote. In Ben's case, he was the target from F7 onward, and had to solely rely on idols because he made himself so much of a target by causing too much friction with Lauren and Chrissy which allowed them to get the numbers against him. They were basically "get out of jail free" cards for him because he didn't have strong enough connections to stay. And when the idols coudn't help him anymore at F4, he knew he had to win immunity and he didn't, and it was clear he was the next to go. But he gets a second chance that brings him from a 0% chance to a 50% chance. To sump it all up. The twist is terrible because it takes the game away from the players hands, and gives the person who lost fair and square a second chance through no effort of their own.

i agree with you 100%, but let me play devil's advocate for a hot second - we all know now what chris underwood did to earn his way into the final 3 (ignore the fact that he was out of the game more than he was in the game, for the purpose of this comment, just assume he made it all the way to the final four and won the final immunity). he knew he was the only one out of gavin and julie that would be able to beat devens in the fire-making twist. yes, chris knew about the twist before the day he won immunity, unlike chrissy, and had some time to think about his strategy going into this, but chrissy had the same option. i completely agree that it screwed over the remaining players because of its unexpectedness in hhh, but a good survivor player will be able to adapt, and yes, when you're starving and tired it may be hard to think of things like this, especially when there is no precedent for a twist like the final four firemaking challenge, but chrissy still had a slight advantage over ben - knowing about the twist and having time to prepare for it. ben 100% was helped by production throwing this twist in last minute, and i will never forgive production for it, but there was always the option of chrissy giving up immunity to beat ben in firemaking herself. just like dom had the same option in ghost island. just saying, i agree with you, but also playing the other side.

Regarding the haves/have nots twist in Fiji, the exact same thing was happening in the current season of The Apprentice airing at the same time. One team slept in comfortable hotel rooms, the other slept in tents (?). Both shows were exec produced by Mark Burnett. I think he came up with this idea and thought it would work on both of his shows.

First of all: love your videos. Amazing work. About the twists, I think you left out Tony's super idol. It's just too powerful and random. The twist of a super idol works much better in Kaoh Rong (although it was not used), where it takes two people (hopefully you dont end up with the same person finding many idols) to make one super idol

I really like Redemption Island! :) It is interesting and gives the second chance and changes the dynamics of the game - like Ozzy's elimination. I don't like those twists with votes. I think they are unfair, because thei make contestanst unequal. I don't like Outcasts and stupid deleyed merge - but mostly because we lost Shi-Ann, maybe if someone else would be eliminated I would be happy. But the WORST of all is Jury Removal. It takes away only thing that should be certain. Merge may be sooner or later, you may go home becaue of the idol. Tat is ok and in "new school" everyone expects that. But jury should be a safe place. Not to mention that we lost good players: Neal and Tessa from Australian Survivor. And guy in glasses in BB Australia... But I don't really enjoy BB. And what if they eliminadet f.e Cidney? She made it day 38, was just barely eliminated by fire making and now is gone? Veeery unfair. Fire making from HvHvH is stupid and I prefere normal vote, but I hate Devin so I am glad he was eliminated. But I felt the whole season was made for Ben to win xD

The twist in Fans vs. Favorites from final 3 to a final 2 Then also the immunity train in game changers Both happen to impact Cirie Fields (UNFORTUNATELY)!!! Has anyone else noticed that she has never been eliminated from the game properly, it always took some type of twist (fire making challenge, immunity idol/idols, and the twist from final 3 to 2).

You might as well make an updated video and add Edge of Extinction to it since somebody who was the third voted out actually won the game because of that twist, making nearly 10 episodes of the season completely irrelevant.
@miosnikzycia29136 жыл бұрын
I would've just added the super idol of Panama & Cook Islands which undeniably shaped both seasons in ways that seemed unnatural and annoying. Also, I really hate the emergence of a new hidden immunity idol after one is played or leaves with the player. As proven with Ben & HHH, having this advantage is a complete reroute of the original social and manipulative game. I think there should only be an idol at each original tribe and one post-merge. These 2 twists imo are much more egregious than FvF or the Outcasts.

I’m not as negative about Redemption Island (the twist). I think there are real benefits to it other than your standard vote out. For example, a lot of great drama has come out of Redemption Island than most the banter you see from Tribal Council. People are more open to let out their mind and this goes towards the people living in RI and the people playing. Several moments it has added great Cross-Tribe drama and at least some strategic moves between the tribes. On the TV standpoint,it makes for much more satisfying exits. Something that standard Survivor rules can’t change is the abruptness of when someone is voted out and they only have a few words to say their peace and that’s it. Redemption Island exits feel more “complete” per se. And I think moments such as either Russell exit or Laura M’s, exit feels more fleshed out rather than seeing someone like Ali grab her torch, look shocked and then leave council.We’ve seen a great strategic risk in it as well. One of my favourite moves in Survivor is seeing Savaii vote out Ozzy, in order to eliminate Christine and return to the game. It threw an added layer of strategy and posed one of the biggest risk in Survivor by going into Survivor’s version of Purgatory and to return with an added benefit. It worked well. The time argument also really doesn’t make sense to me either because for years, we’ve had to settle with Reward challenges, which more often than not, add no effect to the show and are basically the ultimate filler time. Especially in the pre-merge. I’d rather watch an RI comp than a reward comp since there’s at least genuine pressure when a Redemption Island competition is played.
