I'm personally okay with the dub voices, I just wanted to give the thumbs up! Also! Also! For everyone who took my recent poll, according to the Powerpuff Girls movie, the Professor gave Buttercup her name because it also starts with a B (to which she got annoyed because he put more thought into her sisters names lol.)

Blossom and Bubbles switched - anime Blossom is ditzy and jolly while anime Bubbles is smart and ladylike. I can only guess it was done because normally anime characters "color coded" in blue are the booksmart and refined type, whily pink ones tend to be the cutesy and girly ones.

I really like this show. I personally think that PPGZ are pretty much accurate representations of what their personalities would be as teenagers. And expanded on their traits by giving them hobbies that would fit their personalities. In my opinion Blossom's personality was changed on purpose and as an answer to two problems: First problem was that in the original show Blossom's personality was for the most part, just being the responsible leader of the group (with a bit of arrogant due to her high intelligence sometimes). And to fit such kind of description they could've easily just make her some kind of typical anime student council president type of girl that always sticks to the rules and has good grades but they didn't because they probably noticed that she needed to be more likeable than that and have a hobby or at least something that she likes. The second problem was Bubbles, she had the complete opposite problem. She was way too childish in terms of personality, interests and overall behavior. To the point where trying to keep all those traits faithfully in the teenager anime version would've made her teenager self act almost delusional and too silly to actually contribute with a plan or to have important conversations. But In the original she was probably the most adorable for being emotional and likable so they needed to make her smarter while also keeping some of those traits somehow. Blossom needed to be more likeable and have more interests if she was going to technically be the main girl and bubbles needed to be more mature and intelligent. So they basically switched those aspects of their personalities to make both of them more balanced characters in their teenager versions. And it worked. They also made sure to keep aspects of the originals in them but adapting them with these switched personality traits: with Blossom being a more relaxed leader that likes sweets, likes romance and boys but keeping the aspects that made her brave as the original for her to still be able get serious and responsible when she needed to genuinely act as heroine and as a leader. And with Bubbles they kept her original personality in the sense that she was still was into cute things (but more into a trendy girl that likes things related to fashion kid of way) but being more intelligent by adapting her original emotional side into her being the most emotionally mature out of the three and more or less giving her an actual role as some kind of mediator or the voice of reason over certain situations. Buttercup didn't really need a change in personality since she was the easiest to translate into a teenager version since they just needed to make her a tomboyish girl that doesn't like to show her emotions that much but still cares about others while also making her have interest as well (I think she was into sports. Specifically soccer IIRC). They not being sisters also worked great because that made easier to create scenarios for them to interact and get to know each other and as result to also made the audience know them better.

When I first heard about Powerpuff Girls Z ( I don’t remember how it’s been a long time), I was really interested in the concept. I loved the anime style and the different story and universe they created. It’s so different, yet it still connects with the original Powerpuff Girls cartoon. And funnily enough, I did love the Powerpuff Girls Z’s personality, especially Blossom’s (she just acts so adorable for me). SPOILER ALERT And out of all the remake villains, my favorite has to be Princess Morbucks. Her motive of wanting to be special because her parents favor her older sister more than her is so heartbreaking yet sympathetic. And the more emotional part is that she doesn’t even hate her sister, jealous sure but that’s normal, she loves her despite unintentionally taking the spotlight.

I think the best way to see PPGZ is like the Miles Morales to the original PPG’s Spider-Man. Based on the original but has its own identity yet still respectful to the source material and concept.

God I love it when I see people talk about this show positively. So hard to find other fans. Honestly I think it was this show more than any other that made me realize just how feminine I was as well, which is odd to think about.

YEEEES I honestly loved PPGZ and although I find all the critics against the show to be completely valid, I will never accept it to be compared to the 2016 PPG reboot. PPGZ is anytime better than it. The entire show was plagued by cheesy anime tropes up to the core. But ironically thanks to it PPGZ was able to create its own identity, unlike the reboot... PPGZ is the perfect tribute to the original series, every character has its own identity to the point that more than the obvious direct reference to their original counterpart, almost everyone is a different character. The aesthetic is the best, and despite being your "generic anime for kids" it still got some impressive episodes and even character development. The idea of PPG combining with Mahou Shoujo attributes and elements is the perfect combo. Also, the OST is amazing and all the openings and endings are really good, I still listen to them. I also think that what let PPGZ to grow organically outside of the shadow of the original series was the fact that CN gave complete freedom to it. They literally showed it everywhere but USA and even for the dub they didn't care about recasting the original voices (in Latin America we actually had 2 of the 3 original voice actresses of the girls back and most of the voices from the original characters were also there) Anyway, good video, good to see another PPGZ enjoyer.

I watched most of the anime since I liked the character designs the story is kinda bland at times but is by far the best ppg reboot. 4:49 Actually his wife is alive, she's an astronaut, there's a whole episode about it.

I remember when I was younger maybe 13 to 15 I think I watched it and it was my favorite version of the girls and I still do love it still.

this show is one of my all time faves. fun fact: it was made by Toei and airing at the same time as late PreCure Max Heart and early PreCure Splash Star. so i consider it kind of a spiritual sister to the PreCure franchise. on another note, the song used in the group transformation? the name of that track is "Touch me"... which uh... yikes? phrasing?

I watched the whole anime like 2 or 3 times a few years ago. I really liked how the anime reimagined the original American cartoon since I liked that show too. Fun fact: The voice actor for Professor Utonium in the PPGZ dub was the original voice actor for Dukey from Johnny Test.

Never got to finish this show but I always liked it. I remember finding it once on the internet years and only remembering it later because Blossom was pretty much the only character I knew that fought with a yoyo (Ladybug now does too). One of the issues I have with the live action, ignoring all the too many issues with the writing, is the fact tbe girls have "accurate" outfits. Like, no, a shealth dress of solid color with a single black stripe sewn in it does not look good on adult women. PPGZ was smart because it took the basic look and iconic features of the PPG and properly adapted it into the magical girl version they were making. It's like the problem with Winx, you have all these wonderful real world fashion designers and costume designers, and you barely make use of them for the show. (You could even do a co op with a fashion company depending with a line based on the show). Not in the mood for a worthless dark and gritty live action after so many poor attempts. I almost wonder if a live action adaptation might be better pulled off if they made the PPG a kpop group or something. Like grab Lolirock elements, get some music in there, but otherwise adapt it with a more interesting twist.

I actually watched PPGZ back in late 2008, before there was a dub, and have always enjoyed it for what it was. I've always told people that I saw this show as paying homage to the original series while also doing it's own thing, and I think that worked pretty well. Over the years, I've seen almost unanimous hate for this show. It was only recently that I've started to see people give the show a chance, and I'm really happy that someone other than me likes the show for what it is, rather than hating it for what it isn't. I personally can't stand the English dub though. I don't have anything against dubs, and actually find I prefer dubs in some shows to their subbed versions, but this one just didn't work for me. The voices were a bit higher than I feel like they should've been, the music wasn't nearly as good as the original Japanese version, and calling the girls Blossom, Bubbles, and Buttercup works for simplicity, but it kind of goes against the secret identity thing they tried to do. If someone likes the dub though, I glad they do, I just prefer the Japanese version of this show. I just wish it were possible to actually own the series in Japanese, since it's one of the last shows I watched back in school that I don't own. I wouldn't be able to watch it without a region free player, and there'd be no subtitles, but it'd still be nice to have. What I can find though is super expensive, so I don't know that I'll ever own any of it.

I also like watching the dub over the sub! My eyes are very poor so being able to watch the show instead of having to focus on subtitles means that I can actually see what's going on onscreen instead of either focusing at the lower half and being able to glance up at the action or zoning out watching the animation and forgetting that I can't actually understand the dialogue, haha. It also means I can watch more episodes before my eyes get too tired/before I start getting an eye-strain headache! People don't give dubs enough credit for being disability aids just as much as being a different way to enjoy a show in my opinion QvQ

I loved this show as a kid!! But I didn't know it was japanese originally. When I was a kid I thought every anime was just fights or for older kids so I didn't watch any. Maybe if I knew I would have given it a chance earlier, now I've been obsessed for years.

I only watched the first and second episodes (I think). I really want to watch more of the series though. I also watched the original Powerpuff girls when I was younger however I don’t mind reboots at all if they’re done well. I love the direction of the story in Powerpuff Girls Z so far so I’m hoping to continue it.

Haven't finished the vid yet but seeing the thumbnail made me and younger me feel so validated! Bc most people who bring ppgz up tend to not like it, and looking back it was weird but goddamn it, I loved it! It didn't have groundbreaking plots but I liked the characters and that simple yet wacky feel. There's a part of me that still longs for another season or what if it was more dark and has more serious/emotional elements like the small glimpses we had with the eds and those emotional moments cranked up. It was the first fandom I wandered into bc I was that in love with it so it has a special place in my heart.

Honestly the people who made the 2016 remake should be put on the watch list for having one the adult writer self insert hit on one of the power puff girls(I can't remember who ) but this anime one is a 1000 time better now I'm going to back to playing the new yugioh master duel game to get my mind off the fact that i remember the God awful PPG remake. There are a number of anime that I started, genuinely enjoyed, but never finished due to the sheer number of episodes. PPGZ was one of them. But I liked the bit I saw. Making the girls unrelated gave more depth and conflict to their character arcs. I won't elaborate 'cause * spoilers *. They didn't turn the show into a 'PPG What if', but took the concept and gave it a new twist. It was simple yet complex, & everything I could want in a magical girl anime. Turns out that even some of my classmates watched the show, & we were able to bond over that. Overall, it's really good and I would highly recommend it to anyone.

Same here. I honestly hope that it can get a re-release proper internationally and maybe even get the original voice cast from the cartoon to try their hand at these Anime interpretations. Bit of a long shot but you'd think Cartoon Network would capitalize on Anime becoming more mainstream with this.

I remember watching this anime when I was younger and felt that it was a refreshing take. I thought the soundtrack was catchy too XD! Love the design. At one point I tried making an OC for the show but lost motivation after struggling to draw the OC out.

This was my favourite show as a kid, I think it can worthly stand next to the og PPG without neither version overshadowing the other.

Differences list. 1.Professor Utonium wife is not past away. She is a astronaut in mission into space who have missed a big deal of time of Ken childhood. We learn that in episode 26 named ''All Ken Wants for Christmas''. 2.Blossom, Bubble and Buttercup was already in the same school but have never meet before, it's true. The mayor have asked to is brother, the school principal where the powerpuff girls are, to put them into the same class but the powerpuff girls have learn many things about each other before and they admid it in episode 3 named ''And Then There Were Three''. About point number 3 to 10:Nothing to said, it's all true. By the way, you have jump from point number 8 to the point number 10. But i agree with you, it's great they try new things because it's not necessarily the original serie who is the best.

I gotta say: My all time favourite character in this series is also the reason why I began watching it: That being this version of HIM (Or Kare as many people refer to this version) The reason I like this version a lot is because I just love how chaotic and salty he is. In the Japanese dub especially. Plus the show has so much meme worthy moments.

blossom went from a nerd to a geek in this show and as a little kid, i went from having wanting to be blossom to in my teens seeing PPGZ for the first time and going "wow that's..me.."

I agree with this 100% i liked this version of the girls, theres just something about this version that i can't ignore, and another thing is that this show actually had an ending while the other shows were cutoff and ended with no real ending. And i absolutely love this version of the rowdyruff boys their my favorite.

I like your points about PPGZ. I mean I've seen a lot of complaints about the anime version like it's not the same as the original which I totally understand. But I feel like the anime version takes a different route as long as they keep the original sources. I like you say something positive about this version which I really enjoyed your opinions and thoughts. I tried to watch the first 10 episodes I believe on KZfaq but I never get into it because it feels a different vibe from the original. However, I really enjoyed the first opening because it is so catchy and cute ( I even remember the song in my head LOL) which I feel like the song captures the show. Also, the transformation and the battle outfits were cute to see! But the plot wasn't attached to me for some reason.. and the characters seem a little too OOC but I can tell you which versions I prefer (which you described pretty well): OG Blossom > Anime Blossom - I really love her characters in the original because she is smart, strong, determined, and has logical thinking which makes her true personality while the anime version makes her looks like a ditzy and falling in love with boys like the other magical girls' characters which I find out repetitive. OG Bubbles = Anime Bubbles - I actually like them both combined because she can be both mature and bubbly/cute/adorable which I really love the idea. So I don't think they changed her characters much. Overall, I think the anime version wasn't my type to watch so I have to go for the original version. 🙂

PPGZ is just feel good for me personally. I first found it when I was really little and thus its got some heavy nostalgia for me, Like I remember it more clearly than I remember the original PPG (I mean, I was extremely little when I watched PPG and I just don't remember that far back in general-). So Im in this funny lil predicament where PPGZ was *my* Powerpuff Girls- Which... is a wild ride ngl- Slight Spoilers: Bubbles whole little storyline with trying to help her Childhood Friend who was like extremely sick and got dark ray transformed into a robot werewolf thing with some amnesia, I think in the dub his name was Cody, it was probably different in Japanese idk- either way, that whole like 2 or 3 episodes was Peak drama to like 3rd grade me and it somehow Jammed its way into my brain so bad that it still effects some random parts of my writing-

The show is just so charming I just wish their was less episodic episodes since the ED's made me want more that emotion

I remember watching PPGZ when I was younger and loving it! I think I hated the time period though. It was back in 2000s when people would always compare Western and Japanese cartoons. I remember watching a video of someone who was like “we get it Japan! You’re better than us!” Idk garbage like that makes me roll my eyes. If you’re going to compare American and Japanese media and say Japan is better, go for something else. PPG and PPGZ are both competent and good stories in their own right. Plus the ending of PPGZ has a good impact on my life. Uuugh so good

Speaking of PPGZ, I actually first heard of it when watching clips of it on KZfaq back around 2011/2012 and I loved the crap out of it. I even loved the Japanese opening theme songs too! The Japanese ending sounds great too! 3 of those songs are like purely J-Rock goodness. Also, I prefer the Japanese version of the show because when watching it in it's original language, I would definitely see the differences when it comes to how Toei Animation were making a show based off of the PPG, but with a magical girl twist to it all. LOL

My favorite childhood show PPGZ when i was 6 or 8 i think i always want to wake up early just to watch ppgz with my cousins and of course the show is in tagalog dub cause of course im still young and we don't know english i really like all the dub they are so fire tbh when i wqas little i prefer the PPGZ more than the original but of course i like both😊❤️

PPGZ is very special to me, it was my first ever anime and I actually saw it before the original show. I’m more glad people are giving it a chance instead of writing off as dumb just because it’s different to the original, adaptations need changes if not they’re pointless, it’s ok to say why you don’t like certain changes but just hating on it (or any adapted media) just because they changed stuff without elaborating is dumb imo Also it’s nice to see a video talking about the anime that’s not just “wait ppg has an anime???”

I actually watched both versions of The Powerpuff Girls! The original and it's anime version, and both were good!

Favourite anime as a kid, I remember wondering if it was real when I stumbled across it on KZfaq.

I'm disappointed and upset because I want Discotek Media to license Powerpuff Girls Z anime someday, even if it never officially aired on regular television in America.

ah same i *hate* when dubbed versions of shows replace the original japanese op with a lazier op that just reuse clips from the show and then slap an upbeat and childish song onto it- this happened when i was watching pretty cure with my sister a few years back- except it was the english dub version on netflix and the opening was really annoying, then i searched it up on yt and found the original op… *robbed*, i say. but i do remember watching a few episodes of ppg z when i was younger, although I remember literally nothing of it. perhaps i’ll rewatch some of the episodes for fun if i get bored, i love magical girl shows heh ✨ but yea, thanks for reminding me of a cute wholesome show i watched when i was younger and a really really good reboot that deserves more love 🥺💕 video essay was really good, and again, *stop being underrated.*

I Also like dubs more. That's why i Always like more if they have my main language dub (Italian) but I if there Is no italian, I'll Watch english or spanish dub (BC they are the Only other languages I understand)

And Ken go to see his mom again. She is an astronaut who works in a space station. please check the facts before saying the mom passed away.

Thank you for pointing out the differences and the differences between anime Blossom and og Blossom and also how Bubbles is more similar to og Blossom, it was probably my big reason why I dislike this anime they could’ve easily swap Blossom with Bubbles. I might give this anime another chance one day. I think the whole appeal the original ppg is that they are basically kindergartners with superman powers, its the whole dichotomy (if thats the word) that what makes it interesting, not the fact that they’re female superheroes (although that can be part of the appeal) i think a remake can still work if you make them pre teens

I’ll try to watch it and add it to my playlist but I’m watching various anime already. I watch dub also but I will watch Sub if a Dub version isn’t available or the dub is so bad I can’t watch it. I also usually watch anime on the anime websites now because I tried watching them on KZfaq but KZfaq messed up the anime I couldn’t finish watching it on KZfaq.

I do remember watching a bit of the English dub of the first episode years ago, but I have seen multiple mini-reviews/mentions of it compared to the CW concept. And I know you said that reimaginings should be something one should be open to. The only gripe I have is the fact that the girls aren't related. I know it seems like I'm being like one of those people complaining that they're not like the original, but I feel like if they adapted it from the original show to keep the girls (and Professor Utonium) related to each other while using something similar to the Power Rangers/Pretty Cure formula by having the three of them transform into their magical girl selves one at a time gradually. I know, it wouldn't make the show as interesting, but that's just me.

I remember seeing least on sub version of this series back in the 2000s on KZfaq. Would like to see the whole series if I get the chance. I do favor the anime style over the flat animation. That really was my only problem with PPG, Dexter and Johnny Bravo at the time was all the flat animation, and it is usually done because it is cheap. Like you, I like my anime Dubbed, however, really bad dubs and I will watch the sub. As for PPGZ, the ep I saw is not much different from what I expect on a Japanese take of the series. I think there was a few changes I didn't care much for, but they aren't enough for me to really dislike the series. To me, the only thing that could have made it better if they had an anime Dexter's Laboratory and did a crossover.

Honestly, while I question the dub's choice of edits and making Snake a female named Ivy (Arturo being turned to a guy is fine), I think I'd rather take PPGZ than any awful Powerpuff reboot (at least until Craig's upcoming unreboot of the show comes). So take what you will, if push comes to shove. And I did wish the PPGZ anime did get more love.
