In the social-media age, we curate images of our lives on a screen-making it especially easy to translate images of perfection as the image of oneself. But the pressure to pretend we are perfect is exactly the thing holding us back from experiencing the happiness we seek-and limiting our ability to be our whole, authentic selves.
In this week’s episode of How to Build a Happy Life, we’ll define what we mean by “authenticity” and explore the psychological underpinnings of our ego-driven identities. A conversation with the clinical psychologist and mindfulness expert Dr. Shefali helps us work through one of the most challenging questions of all: Who am I?

Just because your statements and communications are transitory sand make people laugh... doesn't mean everyone's are. Don't take it so hard.

@@Jay-ho9io You sound unhappy. I tried the first one and then part of this. "Be yourself " seems to be the takeaway here, and the guest seems to have arrived at it through a long and tortured process. I think it would make more sense to examine the outside pressures on her, from her culture, her parents, etc- and how that set her up to feel unfulfilled and empty in the first place. Most of these experts on happiness seem to fit in that category of people starting at a disadvantage, who had to work out obvious things for themselves, and then they feel they've got deep insights to share as a result. 🤷‍♂️

@@Jay-ho9io I should have stopped with "you sound unhappy " instead of wasting a clear and detailed reply on a miserable person. You seemed to want my opinion, I gave it, and all you have in response is personal insult. I leave to others to decide who has something to offer here. You have a nice day pal! 😀

@@seansmith3058 I'm of a belief that your state of mind isn't dependent on your changing circumstances. We aren't simply at the mercy of our ever-shifting lives. I appreciate that they didn't take that approach, and took the view that we aren't victims of circumstance. We can all have the contentment we're after if we're willing to examine ourselves and allow for ongoing change out of our control.
DEFINITELY NOT HAPPENING ON MY WATCH! 😒
