The Farm

The Farm

2 жыл бұрын

It’s been just over 5 weeks now since the shelter dogs moved in and Lucy had her pups at the farm. In that time, there’s been hundreds of hours of training to get here. The puppies have grown and want to be part of the pack too, barking and crying when they hear the dogs go out for their run. Take me too, they say!
Freddo has limber tail from too much play with his best mate YoYo, nothing serious and nothing some rest won’t fix. Our boy Wal used to get it all the time from too much swimming and generally just being too happy. That’s why it’s also called ‘happy tail’. Of all the things to have Freddo, how nice to be suffering from being too happy after all you’ve been through.
Another health update for the pack is for Bobby. Last week we took Bobby in for a full health check at the vet. Together there’s been a lot of concern for Bobby. Be it his hearing, his spine and hips or even his general physical awkwardness and mental ability.
After a full day at the vet having X-rays and scans we were given the results. Bobby does not have hearing loss but has a suspected mild case of Spina Bifida (hence the ridge in his coat), nothing wrong with his skeletal system but a neurological issue with his spinal cord. It would have been a deformity at birth.
It does cause pain. He will have been in pain all his life. Until now. This last week he has been trialled on pain killers especially for his neurological condition. And the verdict … it seems to be working. Bobby is more active than ever. He is now joining the pack on the runs and he’s generally less grumpy.
It has been a difficult road for Bobby and it’s been hard to think about him living quietly in pain. But we’re trying to look at the positive. He doesn’t have to live the rest of his life in pain. And that’s a BIG positive!
Behind the scenes, both Bobby and Conrad have had very good progress in finding their forever homes. Meetings, training sessions, home visits with some very special people who really love and care for them already. Lots of good news and we will tell you all about it in the coming weeks when it’s all final. We are allowing this process to take as long as it needs to take, for everyone’s benefit; dog and owner.
Which just leaves Freddo left to find his forever home, but until then he will enjoy farm life with us. We don’t think Freddo thinks that’s so bad.
It won’t be long now until we start training the puppies. We’ve already started with early socialisation. The three of them are so very different. The smallest of the litter is by far the most confident and brave of the pack. Nothing fazes her and she loves to venture away with the big doggies already. I think she’s more brazen than Cutie Pie! And that’s really saying something because we all know how confident Cutie Pie is.
And confidence is right up there for us. We see so many dogs with anxiety related issues these days and so this early exposure period is going to be very important for us to give these puppies the best start in what will hopefully be a wonderful life with someone very special.
The other little girl who was born the biggest is the most timid. She is very sweet and takes refuge under a human from the pack. We will gently be working on this in particular for her. She’s in the best place for building confidence through socialisation. There’s some big beautiful friendly packs just waiting to meet you and help you through that.
The little boy is a real sweetheart and more laid back than his little sister. He loves the kids and dear Cutie Pie. Not the most confident nor the most shy of the 3, he’s somewhere in the middle.
They’re all doing very well, Lucy is a brilliant mum. Lucy herself is doing very well. She has started her training and socialisation too now. She’s a beautiful girl who is always smiling, and if you’re very lucky you’ll get her very special teethy grin. It only comes out when she’s super happy and excited. Our girl Tilly has been roughed up a couple of times by Lucy. Tilly is a bit of an old matriarch now so Lucy had honed in on her during her early introductions to our own pack. But Lukes worked on that in her training and it is now a thing of the past. Well done Lucy!
And I think that’s about it for now with updates.
Hope you’re all enjoying your weekend too 💚

So wonderful to see the shelter dogs thriving. They are so well behaved, waiting patiently at the gate until Luke gives the "free" command. Great news on Bobby & Conrad's progress towards finding their forever homes💕🙏. Poor Bobby...no wonder he has been struggling 😭. Thank you for recognizing that & doing something about it. Glad his condition has been diagnosed & he's been responding well to treatment. His life improved beyond measure going to the farm but hopefully with ongoing treatment he'll be at his very best. 🙏💕🐕

Freddo has Limber Tail which is different from Happy Tail. Sam explained it in the description as did Luke in the video. Happy Tail usually involves a trip to the vet for wound cleaning and a wrap. Bradley had it actually. Limber Tail is specific to muscle overuse.
@carolvanbeugenbik4632
@carolvanbeugenbik4632 2 жыл бұрын
@@gossamerabba I've just reread Sam's description and, you're right, she does say it's Limber Tail but she also goes on to say it's sometimes called Happy Tail too. It amazes me that YoYo hasn't had this problem seeing as how he wags his tail the most - I guess his tail muscles have always been strong whereas maybe Freddo hasn't had much to be happy about before now and so he has had more chance to develop muscle strain.
@gossamerabba
@gossamerabba 2 жыл бұрын
@@carolvanbeugenbik4632 I think the terms are interchangeable, it seems like Happy Tail indicates some kind of wound that needs a vets attention while Limber Tail is more of a muscle strain. You really do learn some thing new every day. 😄 And yes, I thought the exact same thing about Yoyo and his breeze creator of a tail! haha

Fingers crossed 🤞 for Bobby and Conrad. The change in Bobby is extraordinary and he really joined in with the pack to enjoy the sunny morn. Lucy’s beautiful black coat seems to have been passed on to her pups. I’ve chosen a “runt” of the litter twice (corgi and frenchie) and their determination to thrive makes them even more lovable. @oranjmusemeyer968
@oranjmusemeyer968 2 жыл бұрын
I always choose the runt as well... I think they are more switched on, or aware! Their personalities and ability to socialize, trainability and eagerness to please I think is a compensation for size and physical ability in the beginning. ( personal opinion of course) because they are the smallest their social skills are the thing that seems where they shine, they learn to listen to social cues from other dogs quicker and generally are quicker to ignore the negative in other dogs- now whether that is from a survival of the fittest standpoint I don't know...

Tilly having a few encounters with rival matriarch Lucy, I can imagine fiercely in a protective mum mode that Luke has sorted out. I noticed Lucy didn't want to swim with all the dogs around. Conrad? Joey, always at the back of the pack, ready to herd if necessary. I noticed with a mix of weekender Daycare pups, farm dogs, and shelter dogs, they didn't bother each other but were all in tune with pack leader Luke. What a happy day at the farm. Sam getting so many laughs out of Cutie pie and pup's antics. Is Lily a boarder at the farm now?

The boys look great. They seem to enjoy the smaller pack and doing wonderful. Cutie Pie and the puppies are adorable. Lily is curious and afraid of the puppies at the same time. It was nice seeing Lucy having some grown up time and having fun. The puppies are growing and socializing. All in all a great day ❤🙏❤

Oh Bobby the poor thing, I have chronic pain from a spinal injury and I can understand the grumpiness and not wanting to socialise, so good to find out what has been holding him back, I have had a soft spot for him since his first day visit, and if I didn’t already have a Bull Arab I certainly would have applied for him, though I am in Victoria, I’m so glad that he and Conrad have potential homes, so wonderful. Lucy though is my favourite as I have had to GSD’s I’m on my 4th dog all rescue’s, and before I got my now 11yr old Bull Bull Arab he was 9.5yrs old when I got him March 2020, I had a female GSD I got as a 6yr old she had been a puppy mill too, and she lived until she was 18yrs old and was active until the last couple of weeks, as I she had been on pain relief everyday since she was 8yrs old for hip dysplasia, she once got out and caught a peak hour morning train heading into Melbourne CBD, I had never taken her on a train she was about 14 then, her last 2 years were spent living the bush life after we moved to the bush and she loved it, I never had to lock her up at home as she would spend the days sitting on the verandah watching the birds and other animals, and then when I was working she would go to a dog sitter where she was able to stay inside with the family and the dog sitter’s Mum would let her sleep beside her side of the bed, when I dropped her off at the sitter’s she never would even look back at me, which I actually felt great about because her being happy and loved was all that mattered to me, like at your place all the Dog parents would be so happy that their dog’s are so happy and have friendships all their own. I love watching your videos as I got laid off at the start of the Pandemic and all my family and friend’s are in Melbourne so it’s been a difficult 18 months, but thankfully I will be able to see them all soon, and have all been physically well and are vaxxed now too so it will be great to see them, I will still be careful though as I have 4 Great Niece’s and 1 great Nephew, 1 great Niece I have only met once, but all are 10 and under, so I want to keep them as safe as possible. Thanks so much for helping to keep my spirits up nothing makes me happier than seeing Dog’s (well any animals) having the time of their lives. Ps it’s so hard for me to not try an adopt Lucy, GSD will always have a special place in my heart. The puppies are gorgeous too and funny. Thanks again.

@maria pineda Thank you I actually have a job starting in a couple of weeks, just having a rough time as my ex Girlfriend just died in Scotland suddenly 3 months ago, we were still friend’s, she was the love of my life, so not being able to see my friend’s and family has been a bit more difficult during this time of grieving. I am lucky to have shared our time together, and a great love for both of us. Things will get easier when I am working again as I won’t have so much time on my hands.

@maria pineda Thank you I appreciate that. Yes I work with vulnerable people, so it’s a great panacea for me, to be able to support people, as it brings a strong sense of meaning to my life, especially when grieving. I am lucky she was a great Cabaret Artist & singer songwriter so I have KZfaq videos of her and so can still hear her voice, I also feel her around me when I am having a hard day, she was an incredible Woman and loved by so many people, I feel especially bad for her 30yr old Daughter, as my ex lost her Son when he was 24 and I bore witness to the terrible grief of a mother after losing her child, and now her poor Daughter is suffering, I was the same age when I lost my Mum and it was very hard, but I had nursed her myself at her house so that my Mum was able to die in her own bed, comfortable and in a peaceful setting, and that gave me comfort, My ex was with her Daughter and Sister when she died, so I am grateful she was comforted by that, but no doubt she would not have wanted to leave her Daughter without her and she fought like any fierce mother does for their kid’s. I have been blessed to love someone so completely and felt that love in return, and for that I am truly grateful, I will forever miss her friendship though, as we had traveled to Borneo for a 2nd time after we broke up, and I wanted to share more adventures with her as we always traveled well together, I would have been there for her physically if I could have been. So always tell people you love whether romantically or platonically that you love them and how the have enriched your life, that’s something I learned young, don’t wait for their funeral to say it, even if it feels uncomfortable saying it, it’s something I have done since I lost 8 loved one’s in 18 months when my Mum died, and the level of pain and grief you feel is a measure of how much you loved them. Thanks for your kindness.

What a treat for a weekend video! Introducing the pups to the pack. All the dogs seem to be doing so well together with a few weeks. But they all have come so far. My heart is overwhelmed with their transformation. You truly know your craft and you change dogs' lives. Bless you and your family because they are all a part of it. And as your family grows, each will learn in time how to be an advocate for dogs as well. What a dream come true your life must be right now. Blessings to all of you.

So many things to be joyful about this Sunday morning! You covered just about everything in your notes, Aunt Sam, thanks for all the wonderful updates. I totally agree that if Freddo had to have something, 'happy tail' is about the best; it's about time, dear boy! Cutie Pie enjoys her role as 'leader of the pack' of puppies as much as they enjoy her! Lily looked a bit confused though, lol. And all the laughter from the girls and Aunt Sam around the picnic table is just so much music to the ears...and little Wolfric in his striped outfit, how cute! Thank you for sharing your beautiful weekend with all of us!🥰🥰

@@lindasuggs2393 Hi Linda, I have a similar problem with the Community posts on my tablet. I think that's different than the notes Sam does in the video description (usually accessed below the video itself). In any case, Bobby went to the vet and they found he has no hearing loss, but has a neurological form of spina bifida which most likely has caused him pain his whole life. They now have him on a pain medicine, and he sems to be doing very well so far. Hope that helps!😊
