When it comes to airline seats, which do you prefer? Daily Show correspondent Dulcé Sloan and Daily Show writer Josh Johnson debate the better seat: the window or aisle. The two discuss the ease of getting to the bathroom on the plane if you’re in an aisle seat, the head support a window seat provides when taking a nap, and the dos and don’ts of middle seat etiquette.

I am team window seat mostly because I abhor most unnecessary interactions with strangers (and prefer looking outside than at other people). I typically travel slightly dehydrated to minimize my need to use the restroom en route. I always pack my own snacks for traveling and only buy a bottle of water.

Aisle seat FOR LIFE. I will forever give up the chance of a view for the freedom to get up whenever I want, for the freedom to stretch my leg, and for never having the anxiety of having to ask someone to move.

The window is superior because you know if you miraculously get three seats to yourself, you're sitting at the window. You're only choosing aisle thinking of other people being there.

Window. No other choice. The two of us will sit in different rows to each have a window. Beyond the view, you have the side of the plane to lean into. Aisle seats mean being interrupted throughout the flight. And always buy water and snacks ahead of time.

I'm an aisle passenger. I'll stand a few times, that's a given. Its also a time to stretch out. The only memorable window seat was from LAX to Seattle on a near empty flight. I was able to see the entire mountain range up the coast. Beautiful.

Great podcast. My take is that the window seat is overall better for someone who is unlikely to go to the restroom often, or if you don't mind asking the people around you to get up or if you are traveling with someone who you can comfortably ask, it doesn't matter. I like being able to huddle into the wall of the plane and I like being away from the bustle of the aisle and other rows. The only reason I would go with the aisle seat is if I am traveling alone and I want to get my bags quickly, or for the tall friends out there, you get the chance to extend your legs into the aisle when it is free of people and can get up whenever you want.

this is such a great topic, haven't seen the video yet, about to start yet, i am already debating in my head window or aisle: i like window because i won't miss the views (unless I am asked to pull the windows shades down), and nobody will bother me if I am sleeping (ie getting up if someone needs to get up), but that is all, i prefer aisle, gives me space, and freedom of moment, do not mind if i have to get up to let someone go out to do their business. Aisle always for me. Great topic! Now let's listen to the video. Thanks

This brought back so many memories of me flying. I once got a middle seat on an overbooked flight. I had a lap baby with me the man sitting next to me at the window was so nice, he allowed my toddler to sit on his lap during the flight so the baby could look out the window. It was a joyous experience for me and my baby. My baby would look out the window then look back at me pointing out the window saying yaya see see he loved the clouds.

Window seat! I'm a relatively small adult, so I get why some taller/bigger people (or folks with small bladders or fear of flying) prefer the aisle seat, but I love looking out the window. If I'm traveling with a loved one or significant other, I'll let them pick their preferred seat and then sacrifice and take the middle if it means we can sit together.

I had a flight from Dallas to Tulsa recently and when we landed the pilot goes "welcome to San Diego". The ENTIRE FLIGHT gasped and starts looking at their tickets, the pilot goes, "haha jk we're in Tulsa"

My Latino friends call me Dulce, and one Spanish teacher extended it to Dulcenea. My Eastern European friends call me Sukara. But most people just call me Candi. It all translates to "sweets". Window seat all day. I even sit by the wall in the movie theater simply because I hate people climbing over me.

I'm on team window because of the view, lower interaction, and better sleeping surface. The longer the flight the more upgrading is valuable. 100% if middle or aisle gets up, I will get up too but clouds and earth are too pretty to pass up a window from way up there.

Window all the way! I can lean against the side of the plane to avoid playing kneesies with my neighbor, have a view (or the control to close the window), not have to worry about being in the way of people/carts coming up and down the aisle, people in my row having to get up and go to the bathroom, or getting interrupted from my movie/game/whatever. That said, I try to cut back on the food/drinks pre-flight so I have better odds of not having to move during the flight. I'm also not taking crazy long international flights either. I'd much rather have to shoulder-tap someone once than dodge aisle traffic the whole time though.

I love you two so much!!! 🤣😂🤣 For me, I have to have a window seat every time. Hate being on an aisle because folks moving down the aisles are NOT careful and they hit your legs and arms and heads too much. I get in my window seat and rarely ever get up. Plus, I fly first class (due to my weight) so there's only two seats there.

Window. Because visuals are so important. You have anxiety about asking people to move? Calm down. Look out the window and be soothed. At least in the window seat you won't constantly be the one who is being asked to move. With the aisle seat you're getting both of those people asking you to move and it might not be synchronized. In the aisle seat you're getting woken up at least once in the night, window seat not at all.
