I'm 6' 3" with long legs and I test drove a Jetta SEL Premium today. It had plenty of legroom and the seats were as supportive as any I seen in a compact or even midsize sedan. The 8-way power driver's seat allows you to tip the front of the seat cushion up and the rear of the cushion down to give more thigh support and legroom.

I bought a 2019 Jetta SEL leftover recently and couldn't be happier. Audi A3 for half the cost.

Interesting how this new Jetta is bigger on the outside, but on the inside, it’s actually smaller than the outgoing model. Trunk space is down from 15.7 to 14.1. Rear legroom down to 37.4 from 38.1. Even the fuel tank capacity went down from 14.5 to 13.2. What did they do with the extra space that having a bigger car usually provides? The only aspects that the new Jetta is bigger are the ones that involve width (slightly more shoulder room) and a little more headroom as well.

I thought I was the only one who had their OCD trip out over the power button on the volume knob! I have the SEL and had to train myself to use only the steering wheel buttons otherwise it'd drive me crazy lol.

I like the video, the beautiful car, and the mellow blue color. It has understated beauty without any frivolity, which I like. It's called gravitas. To be honest, this is a midsize sedan that people refer to as a compact because dealers keep changing the definitions of size.

I just bought the 2019 Jetta SEL Premium today and pick it up in the morning. I'll let you know what I think after I've had it a couple days. My last car was a 2013 BMW 550i so of course I'm nervous about the horsepower but the 550i was a bit crazy for what I needed.

So far, about 1000 miles on it, and couldn't be happier. Great car. Plenty fast enough for around town. Very comfortable inside - glad I sprung for the SEL Premium package with the glass cockpit. The Apple CarPlay thing is a little buggy but I don't think that's VW's fault. Sometimes have to unplug and re-plug the USB cable.

UPDATED AS THE LIST KEEPS GROWING -- Why I prefer my 2017 Jetta SEL over the 2019 (based on reviewer / driver comments / reports): • more engine choices for 2017, mine has the 1.8 L engine • Independent rear suspension with 2017 gone for 2019 (back to torsion beam) • True exhaust outlets for 2017 vs. Fake exhaust outlets with 2019 • Adjustable center arm rest with 2017 gone for 2019 • Height adjustment for front passenger seat gone for 2019 • Adjustable rear headrests gone with 2019 • Rear deck more glare resistant; glare reports for 2019 • Damped glove box with inner upper shelf gone for 2019 • Engine shutoff when stopping with 2019, air turns off etc., (does have an off switch) * Solid moon roof slide cover for 2017 gone for 2019 (flimsy cloth material) * A Pillar material covering gone for 2019 (solid plastic) • more touch screen functions / interface with 2019 reportedly results in unwanted connections when bumped * 2019 Seating is very bench like, some reports it was less comfy * trunk pass-thru behind rear arm rest gone with 2019 * 2019 center console intrudes on drivers right knee room * 2019 eight speed transmission gets a bit confused /sloppy (could be a break-in issue) * And, trunk lid fully opens with 2017 vs. needing further lifting with 2019 In all fairness I have not driven the 2019 so these comments if they are all accurate may not be important for some new buyers. More soft touch surfaces on 2019 front doors, and MQB platform may provide a better and more quiet ride experience, etc.

David Whitaker *Also, the 2019 Jetta trunk is 2 cubic feet smaller. * 2019 headlight switch and ac switches feel cheaper. * Turn indicators are only on 2019 SEL (used to be on SE). * 2019 rear leg room is down.

Waiting for the GLI so it has the IRS (Indipendent rear suspension) hopefully a 6 speed manual and rear air vents because even the SEL premium doesn't have rear air vents on this car which I think it's ridiculous!

That hump beneath the steering wheel box which really badly hits knees, totally kills this car for me. Or anyone taller 5.8". Not to mention the fact it is longer than both Corolla and Civic while still having lesser rear seat head and leg room. That really surprised me. I mean wasn't rear seat head and leg room what Jetta was always a champion in its segment??

All that nice tech and all, but VW still can’t seem to add automatic adjustments for the passenger ‘s seat. Also I would have like for VW to have added an actual dual exhaust, and not just fake exhaust scoops! Not worth for the money!

I like the design and interior. But that engine leaves a lot to be desired. Still the same power as the 2006 Jetta, with just a tiny bit of extra torque. Also it will never sound as fun as the 2.5L 5cyl

Dan Rogenstein No you didn't. Also, could have spent $5k less, had double the horsepower, a similar interior, and a near exact exterior (without the worst wheel well gap ever) if you just went with a Ford Fusion.

@Ton-uy1xd
@Ton-uy1xd 6 жыл бұрын
Dan Rogenstein I don't necessarily like them either. But the Fusion is actually a good car with a ton of naturally aspirated power. The new Jetta is a big disappointment all around, and it's so underpowered. There's piano black plastic, tupperware and fake leather everywhere, the wheels are awful, the wheel well gap is epic, the digital gages look like they were designed by Fisher Price, etc. There's nothing good that I can say about this car. The previous GLI is better in almost every way. This thing doesn't even compete.

You just destroyed your own argument with your answer. America has crumbling infrastructure and bad roads, with lots of potholes. Yes, you will feel that torsion beam suspension.
@danrogy
@danrogy 6 жыл бұрын
I live in NYC. I commute to rural VT. I know potholes & uneven surfaces. This car almost never feels floaty. The only way you'd really care is if: 1. Your argument is strictly on paper. or 2. You're taking your family sedan to the track. Read up on the MQB platform. It's super-solid & much cheaper to manufacture. VW clearly put that $$ back into the car. I have no regrets.
@solid1378
@solid1378 6 жыл бұрын
I drove previous generation Jetta with IRS and torsion beam, and there was a noticeable difference. Handling is a very important safety feature and that's a deal breaker for me. Most people won't notice, until they have to make an emergency move to avoid danger or drive a windy country lane, so you are right in some perspective. People who drive German cars on a regular basis, like me, will definitely notice.
@danrogy
@danrogy 6 жыл бұрын
Yeah 5 of my 8 cars have been German. I insist on good handling & road manners. You ain't gonna feel the torsion beam except in odd circumstances. People who drive cars won't feel it 99% of the time. I'm sure you can find a bump that'll unsettle the car but it would take effort. Sure, an IRS would be better, but this rides & handles like a German car.

Unreliable. I bought it two months ago. Already the panel broke off and had to have it repaired. The brakes make this awful sound which the dealership said is normal. Maybe for a 10 year old car it is. I'll post a video of the sound later. And for all you new owners, there's a recall already with a "sealant.". Guess water leaks in. 3 dealership trips in less than 2 months what a mistake :(
