The issue with this fuel leak are the hose clamps on the lower pressure fuel hoses. Its an issue with the Mercedes C300, E300 GL300, all the models with the 4 cylinder engines. Just replace the hose clamps with regular clamps and problem solved, I just did that to mine, a 2017 E300. The hose I fixed is the same hose depicted on this video, and my problem was the same, smell of gas when cold, smell of gas in the cabin when idling, and the smell could not be duplicated at the mechanic's shop. One night I left the car on ramps, waited until the cold morning, open a door to activate the sensors ( do not start the engine) and the leak could be seen coming from the top of this hose. The fuel evaporates very quickly, (but the smell remains) so is hard to see if you are not looking at it. If you want to replace the entire hose and clamps the Mercedes-Benz part # is A205 470 0275. Mercedes issued an extended warranty up to 10 years 120 k miles reference to this issue, the waiting on my local dealership is over two months, hence I decided to fix it myself for under 40 dollars, including labor....yes is that cheap to correct this smell of gas on a Mercedes 300, just replace the original clamps. Victor - you replaced the clamps on the hose under the steering column or the clamps under the pump cover on top of the engine? I think mine is leaking from the top of the engine. I need to tackle this problem soon, my 2016 c300 is at 167,000 miles - no chance of warrant repair for me! Thanks

@@mikec35000 I replaced the bottom hose and the clamps. Yes that low pressure hose has two more clamps, one mid way up the engine and the one on top. I recommend replacing all the clamps. Good luck

@Adrian Yip sorry for the late reply, yes those clamps and the one mentioned on the video at 2:45. I replaced the OEM clamps with regular hose clamps that you can buy at any auto parts store. The actual low pressure gas hose does not need replacing is just the OEM clamps that are defective.

Great information and thank you! Also thank you to all who posted VERY helpful information below. A side note.... if your fresh air intake (right/left side of the engine compartment) becomes obstructed (mine did with leaves as I park under trees at work in the fall) the air will be pulled from the engine bay and not through the windshield/ hood area, where fresh air is normally pulled from. Just something to keep in mind.

My W212 leaks engine oil and while trying to figure this out I smelled gas near the high pressure pump. Dealer charged you less than $1,500 to clamp the 50¢ rubber hose... your service advisor let you escape easy 😊 👍

*Update* Took it to the dealer and they replaced the line at the fuel pump for free on what they called an “extended warranty”.

Thanks for posting this. I have a CPO Mercedes with only 30K miles, and yes profound gas smell. Taking it to dealership today, hopefully fuel line will be covered. Another mechanic told me the fuel lines were loose. Shouldn't be happening.

I received a letter in the mail stating Mercedes has issued an extended warranty for this issue. It only covers 2015-2017 though. Took mine to the dealership and finally got it fixed completely free. If you’re still having this issue take your car to the dealer ASAP.

My dealer Houston (Greenway) refused to honor such warranty. I had to change the 3 clamps myself. 2/18/2023 update: There is a 4th clamp under the fuel pump, but I didn't want to keep working on it myself and called mecedez of Sugarland and they honored the warranty, 5 stars to them. My car is working fine now.

My dealer in Austin, TX just confirmed that they are aware of the problem and there is some sort of notification to dealers about taking care of the repair. There will not be a charge if they problem on my car is the same as that described in this great video.

Thank you for the detailed information. My W205 has the same issue. I took it to Mercedes-Benz of Beverly Hills and they quoted $965.35 (minus taxes) but the quote included “depressurizing the fuel system.” After watching this video I will look elsewhere for servicing. Thanks again! 👍🏽

Thanks for sharing this...I'm sure it'll help some folks out. Looks a little crapped in there, but I'd have tackled it. Sometimes it's worth it though to just pay someone else to fool with something like that. Kinda surprising that warranty wouldn't cover leaking fuel lines though. I understand not covering brakes, tires, filters and maintenance items, but fuel lines are meant to last quite a long time.

same thing with me.....my w205 fuel pump went out and my fuel lines were leaking as well. Partially covered by aftermarket warranty but still expensive af. Thus far, my only real w205 issue thus far.

Hi, Thanks for the video! I have exactly same problem with Mercedes GLC (2016). It appeared at cold days and when I turn ON the car smell terrible at gasoline. Today I checked the spot you showed and exactly the same happened. I have leakage on the same spot. Hopefully I will solve it as soon as possible. But it is strange that a lot of people has same issue and Mercedes is not doing anything to prevent it.

Hey Devin, Mercedes now has a bulletin / warranty extension for this issue. They will cover this repair for those still needing it under the extended warranty plus it states they may reimburse those that previously paid to have the work done during the warranty timeframe You should bring your receipt back to the Dealer and ask for a refund. Good luck, and thanks for the videos. I've got a 2016 c300 4matic with 159,000 miles and counting.

Thanks a lot bud very helpful. I’m having the same problem. Will inspect both locations. During the initial check up I suspect it’s coming from the top of the engine Hp pump I suppose. In the bottom what should I replace the entire rubber line with the port ?. I can see the clamp on the gas tank side. How is it connected to the engine bay side ?clamps?

Thankyou for your videos, I used a launch 129e scanner and got a P052E71 CODE, it says valve for crankcase ventilation has malfunction. Will you please help me with this issue as I could not find an answer anywhere. The other issue was I had auxillary battery malfunction and I changed the part and error was gone yet the eco start/stop does not show up on dashboard nor does it function though it lights green in the middle console. thank you and sorry I troubled you

@@ndemons31 i received an extended warranty letter from MB specifically for the lower pressure pump hose and clamps, that’s how the addressed it. If anyone paid to get it solved before getting the extended warranty should be able to request a refund with the proof of the repair. Your vehicle exceeds the limit of warranty based on year but you should contact the dealer near you

Mercedes w205 c200 2016. The smell of gasoline was there every morning for three weeks, replaced two fuel hoses, no more problems. The mileage was 84,000 km.

There plastic shields around the clamps. Are they really needed or for what, because when regular screw type clamps are used, it is not possible to re-use the plastic shieds. Thanks a lot!

hi there! i appreciate you took the time to explain the issue and show the location, same happen to me, one day warming the car up my wife mentioned the smell of gas, she drove to the nearest shop and they didnt find the leak, but a day later a looked and spoted the leak right at the spot you mentioned, didnt have time to jack the car up at the moment, so I left the car at home, next day I started the car and no leak what so ever, I looked ander the car and I could see where it leaked before but there was no leak at all, did it happen to you that the leak stopped at one point and started again? I was hoping to spot where exactly the leak was so I could fix it, but at this point don´t know if it came from de breaded hose or the clamp on the rubber hose. I would apreciate any coments. greetings from Chile.

Yes. The leak was not constant. Kind of temperature dependent.

I just got a letter from Mercedes. They are now reimbursing owners who have paid for this service in the past and it is being covered under warranty from now on. They are also extending the warranty to 10year/120,000miles. That’s pretty awesome.

I just took my car in for this exact problem. Do the lines run together from the engine to under the drivers seat? I think they only replaced the area in the engine. This concerns me bc I think my leak was also under my seat. The warranty says it’s the low pressure fuel hose that connects to the high pressure fuel pump.

The car was inspected by Mercedes dealer in Sugarland TX, in idle, it smells but while on road running , no smells. The dealer took 3 days and today they said, that the tank, pump, pipes will replaced and it will cost 5000 including labour and material. What is your advise

Just paid $347!!! For this Mercedes should make this a recall! I have a 2016 w205 just hit 44,000 miles had it for over a year this is ridiculous.

@@artb.3250 take it to an European mechanic I have a mechanic shop who specify in only BMW/Mercedes vehicles. Most of them have worked for Mercedes themselves or took the same courses they’ll do it for a good price [without] using aftermarket parts!

There's an extended warranty on the gas fuel line for 10 years or 120,000 miles. I received it by mail about 2 months ago. Took it in and it was replaced at no cost. If you alreqdy paid, they can reimburse you. Contact Mercedes-Benz.

CONTEXT: open the hood, if the high preassure fuel pump(metal thing on the back) has white doots or it looks a bit white then this is the solution SOLUTION: Replace and clean the high preassure fuel pump hose,(should be about 110), DO NOT GO TO THE DEALER, as changing it is not enough, This part comes sometimes very defective from factory, which is why we get the gas leak, the dealer is only gonna replace it, and more possibly the problem will reocur in the future, after you get the part, get some black sillicone for cars, permatex/heavy duty, without it getting it on the actualfitting run the sillycone in every fitment or the hoose, let it sit for a day and then install it, or take it to your local mechanic shouldnt be more then 2 hours of work billed

Mine smell like gasoline at start-up on cold mornings. When the car warms up, the smell goes away. Is it possible to have a leak?

I’d say the hoses when cold are leaking more than when they are warm. Heat makes things expand. Cold makes things contract
