The Ed Sullivan Show was a television variety program that aired on CBS from 1948-1971. For 23 years it aired every Sunday night and played host to the world's greatest talents. The Ed Sullivan Show is well known for bringing rock n' roll music to the forefront of American culture through acts like Elvis Presley, The Beatles, and The Rolling Stones. The entertainers each week ranged from comedians like Joan Rivers and Rodney Dangerfield, to Broadway stars Julie Andrews and Richard Burton, to pop singers such as Bobby Darin and Petula Clark. It also frequently featured stars of Motown such as The Supremes, The Temptations, Stevie Wonder and The Jackson 5. The Ed Sullivan Show was one of the only places on American television where such a wide variety of popular culture was showcased and its legacy lives on to this day.

Pensé lo mismo. Pero creo que esta es una primera parte del acto, pues al terminar la canción no agradecieron al público sino que permanecieron en sus personajes. 🖐🏻 🙂

@@jrbaskind oh, I'm sorry you only speak English, but there is an option to translate at the end of every comment in a foreign languaje. I used to read Russian or Japanese comments in that way.

Rodgers is dancing with Hammerstein Is it true? Am I sane? Could I be drunk on a gram of wine or have I lost my brain? I do hear a waltz It's not reggae, I hear a waltz I yell out the window to TURN IT DOWN! I hear a waltz

Sondheim and Arthur Laurents hated working on this with Rodgers. Sondheim wrote only the lyrics. Elizabeth Allen had zero presence on stage, This was the best number in the show. Sad. It was a great idea to do a musical based on Summertime with Hepburn.

highly unlikely you saw the show live during its original run, so who told you Allen had "zero" presence on stage? Was it somebody who also told you the election was stolen?

Dorothy Collins Replaced Elizabeth Allen in this show

Elizabeth Allen was nominated for a Tony for this role; she rightfully lost to Liza Minnelli for her breakout role in 'Flora, the Red Menace." Actors are replaced in roles routinely for a variety of reasons, including injuries or work/contract obligations/conflicts, among others. Performers with "zero" stage presence seldom if ever are awarded with Tony nominations.

And Rodger's hated them both right back. Rodgers had an adoring public and he knew that they were trying to sabotage him. Which they were. When Rodgers was impressed with Steve's lyrics - which he often was, he told him. When he wasn't, he also told him. A heady mix, and the result was a pleasant show which should have been wonderful.

It was a lovely show but Elizabeth Allen was way too attractive for the story to really work, and she had zero stage presence. She was however a highly respected actress who landed in the wrong show. In the original play, The Time of the Cuckoo, and the wonderful film version 'Summertime' Leona is meant to be a lonely, somewhat irritating middle aged woman who comes to Venice for the first time and falls madly in love with a married man, who has an 'arrangement' with his wife that shatters Leona's prissy, romantic nature. The musical score is mostly charming but Richard Rodgers clashed with Stephen Sondheim who wanted the kind of lyrics that Rodgers defending his legendary reputation, knew his public wouldn't appreciate. And Sondheim, unfortunately, never stopped putting the show down. David Lean's film version is the best, because it does away with everything that wasn't needed and filmed the whole thing in Venice. If you haven't seen it, make an effort to get the fully restored to glorious Technicolor, Bluray disc. It's a wonderful movie. Katherine Hepburn and Rosanno Brazzi. No songs though.

Original playwright Arthur Laurents apparent hated Katharine Hepburn in the movie Summertime as being too “glamorous” compared to the original stage version played by a more frumpy (fit for an old maid) Shirley Booth (Hepburn’s friend & co-star In Philadelphia Story, but she also took her other stage role from Desk Set as Booth didn’t like making movies). When Laurents took his mother to see Coco where a non-singer like Kate gave a star performance in a musical, a longer run than a mediocre show deserved & standing ovation including raves from his own mother on the wonders of seeing a star like Hepburn on stage, he changed his mind as he realized what star power & charm Kate brought to the character.
