I didn't think the parasites were contrived. Fitz gave every last bit of energy he had to the Fool and Nighteyes kept a tiny bit. Then the Silver made his body repair all his injuries and the leg wound with the tiny bit of reserves he had. On top of that come the parasites, which grow rapidly, so his reserves can't even begin to rebuild. I think if a Skill coterie had found him right away they could have healed him from the parasites but he spent so much time alone until it was too late for anybody to do anything.

Just finished the last book and glad to keep the story alive a little longer with your discussion! I didn't think it was possible for Hobb to write an ending that felt so right, but of course she managed it. The Fool's immediate choice to join Fitz in the stone dragon/wolf felt like a such a heartbreakingly brilliant way to tie up their relationship 😪

1:20:00 I really also thought Fitz would survive. I mean I even catched that he gots dart in him and connected it with the parasites and traitor's death. There even was a note of one of the Four before one of the chapters that talked about the worms and how they eat you from the inside. I knew that but even when Nighteyes told Fitz he's gonna die and has to carve his stone dragon I thought Bee and the rest will save him. I believed he'd survive until they found him at the quarry😭

And yes, wanting to read the whole thing again :) Re Bujold - I think you would like her books ("Curse of Chalion" is one of my favourite books and the Vorkosigan saga is brill too). Just finished yesterday. Long time coming after reading Farseer 7 or 8 years ago, but I can confidently say this is my favorite series of all time. Love Bee. Fool's Assassin is by far my favorite in this last trilogy, followed by Fool's Quest and then Assassin's Fate (which seems to be unpopular on booktube but I would actually put Assassin's Fate somewhere in the bottom half of ROTE books even though its still 5 stars). Not that anyone cares, but my overall subseries rankings: 1. Liveship 2. Tawny Man 3. Fitz and the Fool 4. Farseer 5. Rainwild (Still loved it)

According to my calculations Chade must be at the end around 100-120 years old cuz he was already old in the Farseer trilogy. He was Shrewd's elder brother who already was old and died in the 1st trilogy tho if we say it's mostly cuz of Regal and Desire's shenanigans and drugging him and he died around 50 and assuming Chade is just barely older would mean Chade is at the time of his death 51+63(that's I think Fitz' age) -6 (cuz Fitz story starts at that age)=108 years old and if he was already 60 or so he might be around 120 yrs. So yeah he really was active for a long time

I also like Skill and Wit magic systems they are so similar as systems. They have they own rules but they will and on users ability and skill. Just able to finally watch this now that I’m done the last book, a journey I started a decade ago! [spoilers ahead] These characters have been in my head for so long, it was definitely difficult to say goodbye. Watching your talks & reviews have been so helpful in getting closure! Tbh I was a little disappointed in the ending… I thought Fitz deserved a happily ever after. I don’t know if the horrible way he died, with the parasites and everything, was necessary when he’s already been through so much. I actually thought he died in Clerres so to have him back only to lose him again… so heartbreaking. Does anyone have theories on how the stone dragons actually work? Do Fitz & co. actually live in the dragon for a time or is it only their memories? When they died, did they go to the skill river where verity & chade was? I’m confused about all that and I think that’s what’s making it hard for me to accept what happened!

About Chade: there were moments were I distrusted Chade but not in this last trilogy. I think he has his own regrets and secrets and there could easily be a whole 9 book saga about his life. I mean he lived with his mom who was soldier turned farmer and his stepdad. They hated each other but respected each other and then he was after his mom's death on his own sent to Buckkeep. It was also hinted he had a harsh mentor and he never even talked with Fitz about it. He did his own mess ups and I think Chade is getting too much shit for being shady or in a way using Fitz cuz at the end of the day he did that cuz he seems to also have lived a similar life and he had to make Fitz useful for the royal family and able to defend himseld cuz otherwise he'd die... man I realize I'm a Chade apologist Tho I don't appreciate that he couldn't keep it in his pants

I so wanted to join in your discussion, but the time difference between you and here in the UK meant that I would have had to explain to my husband why, at the age of 64, I needed to be on the computer at 2am! So, I’m sorry, but I was tucked up nice and warm pushing out the zzzzzzs! No-one mentioned Nettle or Dutiful to explore their relationships with Fitz. I personally find Nettle was named well, god she was prickly! I do hope motherhood softened her. And the bit when Kettricken thanked Fitz for her son……..!! (sob) The love story of Fitz and the Fool was just mega and I hope plenty of people out there know now how much you can love someone/anyone (and be IN love with them) without sex getting in the way. If only more people told their friends how much they loved them. I couldn’t have faced Bee being brought up by Fool, he would have read too much into everything she did. On that point, on my first reading of the books I got annoyed with the sections at the start of each chapter - I just didn’t understand them! On my second and subsequent readings, oh my god did they make sense!!! As we have all said, Robin Hobb is THE BEST EVER. If we feel bereft, empty, sad, lost and hopeless, imagine how she feels! I bow to her, nay I prostrate myself at her feet. So thank you, boys, for your chat and I wish I had been able to join in. xx

I hated Shun at first cuz she was so arrogant and thought she's so much better than Fitz as assassin and spy and later we saw that she really wasn't smart at all and just very self absorbed with a sad background story. I also disliked her for the whole time when she & Bee were kidnapped until they escaped and got to talk more and get closer and at Buckkeep when Bee defended Shine and they got friends she was redeemed for me. I was ready to like Lant from the start but then he was a jerk to Bee and mooning over Shun but he redeemed himself fairly quickly in my eyes. It was clear that he wanted to help the moment the fog of his memories left and he made the whole journey with Fitz, Fool, Spark & Per to save Bee so he's redeemed for sure. And Shun & Lant was awkward but they didn't know and did the right thing by ignoring each other afterwards

@@thefantasynuttwork I've heard the original is as good. But I can't remember, cause it's been so long since I've seen that one.

I really like when you talk about fitz being this mythical figure because if anyone deserves to be remembered, it's the whiney idiot behind the scenes sacrificing everything time and time again to save the day.

Molly was annoying for me in Farseer (tho so was Fitz. I think he was the most dense and annoying then) and in tawny man she was neutral and this time I liked her

I hated Starling from the start and I still do. She was terrible to Hap in Tawny Man and she was unfaithful to a lot of different people

BTW Dwalia and Kyle should've had a child and be Hobb's final antagonist, those two are the worst
