In this tutorial, The GameSmith discusses how to create bamboo thickets with plastic bamboo trees purchased online (see below). First, we’ll modify the store bought bamboo shoots by painting them and then creating a DIY base for them. These scatter terrain pieces can be used to break site lines and create cover for your favorite wargame and roleplaying game such as Warhammer, Dungeons and Dragons (D&D), and Pathfinder.
This tutorial shows the step by step process to create your own bamboo thickets made from inexpensive and widely available materials. The techniques shows can be easily applied to other products and DIY designs. Once a crafter has an understanding of the methods used to modify and create these bamboo thickets, one can create an even greater variety of fantasy forests.
From all of us here at TheGameSmith, we hope you find these scatter terrain projects informative and helpful. We’ll see you at the table!

Time to add some more jungle scatter terrain by crafting some bamboo thickets! What jungle terrain pieces would you like to see next?

It's amazing what a bit of paint, glue, and cardboard can achieve. :-)

Have you tried adding Styrofoam or floral foam to the base before the foil? That way you could add some dimensionality and have some places to jab the wire ends into for even more stability?

I have used the technique you suggested in the past (the jungle videos) so I didn't want to repeat the exact same tutorial. Your suggestion is definitely a better way to create the bases on this build.

Nice tutorial, & cool manticore. I am working on making one right now. As well as a sentry mech, chimiria, some land speeders, & some futuristic lizard man. Hey if you are still interested in a gaming session. Drop me a line.

If you used foam core you could have inserted the wire into the foam before gluing for more stablility.
@TheGameSmithsTable
@TheGameSmithsTable 2 жыл бұрын
I'd have to say no, for my own preferences. I wanted the base to be thinner so foam core wouldn't be my best choice of material.

Would you recommend 30 point chip board or is 22 point good enough. Would like to know before I buy. Thanks.
@TheGameSmithsTable
@TheGameSmithsTable 2 жыл бұрын
Well, I guess that depends on how much weight or how large the peice will be. 22 PT is only about as thick as cereal box cardboard so it's good enough if the peice is only 4 or 5 inches in diameter. Otherwise I'd go with the thicker board. I hope that helps.

Is this workable with 6mm due to how big bamboo gets?
@TheGameSmithsTable
@TheGameSmithsTable Жыл бұрын
The scale of the bamboo is much too large for 6mm unless you are wanting a massive stand of bamboo. All the terrain is meant for 28mm miniatures.
