Kanami the lead guitarist, is the one who writes pretty much all of their music with Miku the rhythm/backup vocals, doing the lyrics so yeah she is a freakin genius According to the band members, she is an airhead quite goofy offstage and a timid one at that but the moment she holds that guitar, its like she lets go of all her inhibitions Its honestly inspiring to see that expression of absolute bliss she has on her face everytime she's playing.

@ 7:35 do you know how many people who do reactions, pauze after seeing a Band-Maid video and especially "Onset"? They are all collecting their thoughts, trying to make sense of what they just witnessed. Some are stunned, some junp around in their room, some tumbling over their words. Never gets bored, seeing peoples mind blown while watching Band-Maid. One of my favorite things to watch on KZfaq, some I have seen a dozen times. Yours I've seen at least a half dozen times. Great reaction!

Some band bio, MISA (always in caps), Bass and Akene, drummer are graduates of the Tokyo School of Music, think Juilliard. Kanami, guitar and prime song writer also has a college level music education. All 3 started piano lessons at 3 or 4 yo. Miku, rhythm guitar, band founder and lyricist, believe it or not learned guitar by request of the band because they need a fuller sound. Kanami is her teacher. Miku was in Jpop with a short time in a trio that failed, but with vocal training. Saiki, lead vocalist began vocal lessons at about 14 -15 yo. All of them were working as session musicians/singers and in backing bands for various singers. The only 2 bands I can think of with a similar story are The Band and the Eagles. Their breakout music video is Thrill that let them find an audience primarily in the west. Welcome aboard.

Band Maid is extremely talented and industrious. Their live shows started a bit weak about 5 years ago, but they put in the work to perfect their craft. They went to the next level when their label allowed them to write their own music. A couple of Japanese instrumental metal bands for you: Asterism - Rising Moon. Young musicians that worked with Buckethead and Bootsy Collins on their first album. The next is D-Drive, The Last Revenge. The synchronized tapping in the middle is sublime.

There's a few other instrumentals, Without holding Back, Go Nuts (no video of it exists yet), and Don't Be Long which I saw them debut live in NYC. Also Kanami's best guitar solos are probably in the songs Real Existence and Daydreaming. The live version of Don't You Tell ME from this show also has an insane duel between Misa and Kanami (bass and guitar).

They just unveiled "Don't be Long" (instrumental) on their recent US tour. Unfortunately, only fan cam recordings exist currently as it hasn't been officially released yet. I'll throw a link below to what I think is one of the better ones in case you want to check it out (you'll note my guitar player bias). If you want to hear more Misa (bassist), check the links I left on your "Play" reaction for "Take Me Higher" and "Don't You Tell Me". You'll dig the "call and response" between Misa and Kanami on those. BTW, did you catch Misa's disappearing pick magic trick at 2:30 on this one? You gotta react to One and Only and Don't You Tell Me if you are gravitating towards Misa, the bass player and yah Kanami's guitar playing is on another level so are her phrases but people hardly appreciate Miku's rhythm guitar playing which you can clearly make out in Onset on your left year. I mean she learned how to play from Kanami only after forming the band and that speaks volumes of her talent. She also writes all of Band Maid's songs. Akane's gotta be the best drummer out there and Kana I can play the piano too, she's multi-talented to say the least.

I had been clicking on every video I could find from them for 2 days when a friend of mine pointed me to this one. I thought it couldn't get any better. I had been sold at the 3rd song I'd heard, but this is the one that turned me into a fanatic. I don't really have a favorite song, but I listen to this more than any other single song. Onset is really the one for Kanami, the guitarist, to show off in. Misa, the Bassist, gets a lot of up front time, and if there is any complaint among fans is that Kanami's solos are too quick and short. We all want more Kanami!

What I think is really cool with their instrumentals in general, but this most of all is that they are actual songs. It could be easily be 4 minutes of mindless shredding. Instead it is built with verse, chorus and so on. It is subtle, restrained and impeccable executed. Hearing it live on stage is even crazier because they change it up ever so slightly from night to night, just as a singer does, but they still manage to restrain themselves to actually perform the song as it is written.

I have her in my top three female leads at the moment, along with Fuki of Unlucky Morpheus (no one has a more powerful voice than her) and NaNa with Fate Gear/Theo Nova... So, if that peaked your curiosity you should check the acoustic version of ....Puzzle live kzfaq.info/get/bejne/rsqngdCr15PNoJ8.html The full version of the acoustic is here but coupled with a second song which I can't say let alone spell.. So yes I hear some little punk influences, in a few songs and sometimes in their attitude too (Misa! she has the perfect "I don't give a fuck" attitude sometimes). And Miku's unbreakable will has a punk edge too (the "don't expect anything from anybody, do it yourself!" attitude). But their art is to take everything that's good in many styles and make a magical mix of those influences: the Band-Maid style.

@@realdocloco When I tried to explain Misa to a friend I said something like, combine the skills of Flea, the groove of Bootsy Collins, the attitude of Sid Vicious, the feeling of an old school hard rock bassist (Marco Mendoza comes to mind) and a sprinkle a touch of Jaco Pastorious flair on top.

@@realdocloco Style. Exactly! And the Band-Maid sound. Some uninformed call it a "formula". But it's not. Especially when you go from Start Over to Screaming. Or Anemone to Go Nuts. No formula. Just sound, style and pure RnR excellence!

If you want to focus on just the bass player, there is a video out there of them doing and instrumental to their song No God and the whole video is just on the bass player. I saw another reactor react to it but I can't find the video anywhere.

I like your reaction, but have you ever heard of "LOVEBITES" ?a successful band outside of Japan besides BAND MAID ... but with the power metal genre and all songs in english.. sounds like thrash metal 80s and power metal from Europe. Recommendation song : Shadowmaker, The Crusade, Rising, Don't bite the dust, The hammer of wrath, Above the balck sea

Everyone loves MISA. She is The Bass Assassin. Dark Beauty. A Force Of Nature. You might catch a mistake here and there on a Fan-Cam video, but this concert was taped for a DVD and is one flawless hit after another. You still haven't seen the songs with the Call & Response Battles between Kanami and MISA. I would start with 'Take Me Higher' which Kanami wins. But save the best for last, which is 'Don't You Tell Me'. The only winner in that Battle is the audience.

Buckethead is beyond all musicians in the world. He's not "human". I have his sinature Les Paul. He's my musical religion. Band-Maid is the best rock band for me. I love 'em! Asterism is far better than Band-Maid tecnically wise. They are all teenagers. They are a power trio instrumental band. My favourite artists are: 1. Buckethead 2. Band-Maid 3. Asterism 4. Jinjer 5. Baby Metal 6. Ghost 7. Rammstein 8. Nightwish 9. Judas Priest 10. Rush

I'm curious, if you are a lover of Rage Against The Machine, what would you think of another prodigy band from Japan, ASTERISM. They have a wonderful cover of RATM song Guerilla Radio: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/nqmhm5mEl7mrpX0.html. It's studio version, published at their official channel, it has the best quality. There is also a live version here: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/qNyTpN2Gu82mfYE.html , but you would not be able to hear vocals very well. I think ASTERISM is a wonder of our times. HAL-CA, who is the guitarist and the central member of the band, is absolutely incredible at her 16 years of age. What she will turn into with the passage of time, I can only dream of. Their last album was recorded with the support of Buckethead, by the way. I think he has either written some stuff for them, or helped to produce the album. HAL-CA said that she hopes to have a guitar battle with him on stage one day. Maybe that day is not far away 😎

Hey, dunno if you've tried these guys already on your Twitch show, but you might dig Nightwish. Now most fans usually recommend Ghost Love Score to start, but judging by what I've seen of your tastes, I think Yours Is An Empty Hope (live at Wembley) is a better place to start for you. That or maybe Weak Fantasy(Tampere). But be prepared for 2 things if you do choose to do this: 1. The Nightwish Army(the fandom is crazy devoted) And 2. Floor Jansen, the Valkyrie Queen of Metal Enjoy XD

There is an unfair amount of talent in this band. All its gonna take is for some big mainstream name to tour with them supporting etc and its all over for everyone else. Robert Plant saw them live in Japan and insisted on going backstage to meet them. Dudes asking for autographs and the band are like "ROBERT FUCKING PLANT IS AT OUR SHOW!"
