Thank you for this nice video. :) I may have a tip for next one - I would like to see how you clean and sterile all the equipment. Do you have a special "dishwasher", do you soak it in sanitizing solution, do you spray it with 70% Isopropyl alcohol afterwards? Some tips and tricks. I believe everyone hates doing " dishes", so you may have something special for us. Thank you very much and soon I'll be studying with you :) Can't wait!

Hello, great video! I have a quick question - will 0,4 % of glyceryl stearate citrate added in the cool down phase be enough to stabilize this emulsion? Or is it necessary to pair it with 5% Behenyl alcohol?
@theinstituteofpersonalcare6401
@theinstituteofpersonalcare6401 3 жыл бұрын
Please note glyceryl stearate citrate is an emulsifier and should be added in the hot phase, for proper emulsification (it does not suit adding in cool down phase, it is a solid), and it’s optional to add extra emulsifiers (eg the behenyl alcohol) - this would also need to be added in the hot phase as it is also solid. You might enjoy this workshop: Can I use a different emulsifier: personalcarescience.com.au/Workshops/Emulsifierworkshop-3165/

Another great video full of new and idea inspiring information. I received the link you emailed me in response to my request for the free formula and having no experience in homogenizing lecithin, I have two quick (I think) questions the formula didn't answer - as I'm sure it depends on the batch size: Using the batch size you made in the video as basis, 1. At what RPM did you homogenize, and for about how long of actual motor time (not counting any breaks to allow the homogenizer motor to cool down, if necessary) was required before you were satisfied it was homogenized, and 2. What made you satisfied it was homogenized? Was it just visual inspection with no discernible phase delineation or clumps, or was there something more? Thank you!

Can you use lecithin in an anhydrous formulation as a humectant? Which kind of lecithin would be best for this use (solid, liquid, hydrogenated etc.)? Thank you. Great vide BTW!
@theinstituteofpersonalcare6401
@theinstituteofpersonalcare6401 2 жыл бұрын
Lecithin is an emulsifier, so it normally needs to ‘hold’ something in a formula to be stable. Hydrogenated forms are usually solid; if you use a solid material it may increase the viscosity of your formula. It is better in o/w or w/o emulsions though. I have so many questions!! I will definitely be sending an email but, all you did was heat the lecithin in the caprylic triglyceride (essentially the carrier oil for this formulation?) And then homogenize with the water phase. I've seen people 'hydrate' the lecithin with water and then add into the oil phase but I cant find any information on hydrating lecithin. Is this a legitimate thing? ie. wouldn't the emulsion form from using 'hydrated' lecithin? By the way, can these emulsion stabilities be achieved with non-hydrogenated sunflower lecithin? Thanks!!

Can I use a chiller to rapidly cool my emulsion to 40c?
@theinstituteofpersonalcare6401
@theinstituteofpersonalcare6401 3 жыл бұрын
Emulsions generally need low shear mixing/stirring while they cool - rather than being left to cool without stirring, so this may not be the best approach. Try an ice bath to get the emulsion to cool fast!

@@theinstituteofpersonalcare6401 Ok, so mixing while chilling is key. Perfect.

Can use soylecithin in cold process shampoo. How to use
@theinstituteofpersonalcare6401
@theinstituteofpersonalcare6401 3 жыл бұрын
It would depend on the form of the lecithin and your purpose for using it - there would be other better selections out there than to use this in a cold process shampoo. If you need specific advice, please contact us and purchase consulting time: personalcarescience.com.au/Advice/cosmeticformulation,brandadvice-797/

If I use witch hazel, with 15% alcohol, instead of water, would this need a preservative?

Yes it would, that is not enough to protect the formula. Can food grade soy lecithin work too?
@theinstituteofpersonalcare6401
@theinstituteofpersonalcare6401 2 жыл бұрын
I always recommend cosmetic grade ingredients for cosmetic products. Food lecithin is usually tacky, and ideal for food, but not the same as the grades I show you in this video. You can get a sample and try it but I don’t think it will give you the desired outcome like you see in this video. Learn to make these selections and formulate professionally with our Certificate in Advanced Cosmetic Science: personalcarescience.com.au/CosmeticScience/CertificateinAdvancedCosmeticScience-478/ and Diploma of Personal Care Formulation: personalcarescience.com.au/CosmeticScience/DiplomaofPersonalCareFormulation-479/
