Wow thanks everyone for all the amazingly helpful comments! So the main thing I've learned is that the sprayer I should be using is the gravity fed (HVLP) top loading gadget - which was actually supplied with the compressor as well as this (what turns out to be a) "paraffin gun". So armed with this knowledge I shall try again on the mighty GS when I get the chance.....stay tuned to see how I get on and whether the compressor is going to E-Bay!! [addendum: ..and yes, I know about warming up the ACF50!!!!!!]

Fluid tip size is also important - did mine with a 1.3 set up. Anything bigger would be even messier and would spray too much material too quickly...

It will be worth it. Just have a normal pressure but lock the needle movement off so it moves a small amount. Then you get alot of air and a small amount of acf. thats how its meant to be done.

I use an old Badger 200 bottom feed modelling airbrush at around 20psi. It's fitted with a 10ml tamiya mixing jar containing the ACF 50. The compressor I use is a small modelling model without an air tank. The airbrush has good coverage yet enables you to be quite precise so you don't make so much mess. The big plus is 20ml will do the entire bike making it incredibly economical.

Thanks for the vid. Used your first ACF50 vid to apply it for the first time on a bike last weekend and it's a great product (really does bring the plastic up well!) I always use the jet wash, but never that close to the bike. I usually wash it at the manual car wash, and i use the tire air (the hose that you use to pump up your tires ) to blow away water from the instruments, fuel cap, mirrors and other critical parts. Any of this a bad idea for general wash? (no polish after, if so i wash it by hand at home afterwards.)

That isn't a dirty bike - it's a clean bike that's been ridden once in the wet..! Assume you get something if filled with water? Any difference if the acf50 is heated/warmed? Wrap something around the reservoir tank to insulate it.
@ritfloyd
@ritfloyd 5 жыл бұрын
Not used ACF50 myself but I have heard it said more than once that heating/warming it by placing the acf50 bottle in a larger container with warm water thins it out and therefore more usable with a compressor. Not sure if this actually works or not.

I’ve watched quite a few of your videos now and find them all very informative in their own way. I wanted to ask though why you don’t garage your bikes through the winter months to ensure they stay in as good a condition as possible in order to eradicate the need for ACF50 (this is probably due to the love of biking). Can I also ask if you notice any deterioration on your bikes once you remove the ACF50, I’d maybe give it a go but am very apprehensive in case my bike showed signs of rust after being run through the salt etc.

You have all the correct kit man, just pick up a gravity fed gun, a fast mover 1.2 tip would work well. If it’s a clear day with a breeze and your spraying low pressure you wouldn’t really need a mask however to be extra safe, or if your spraying on a day without much wind and especially if your doing all the bikes pick yourself up a proper mask mate. I use a 3m dual cartridge and a moldex for work (and for the acf50 too). The dust masks genuinely do FA with airborne chemicals. Youl fly through it with the spray, glad to see your ACF video hasn’t got the hate that mine attracts ha!! Love the channel fella :)

Hi Andy, I treated my bike today with ACF50 and thought I'd try using the parrafin gun like you as I'd had success degreasing the bike using it. I wanted to get deep into the crevices of my machine and the long nozzle is perfect for this. I found I couldn't get any spray out either initially, but I made sure I had a good amount of product in the container, warmed the pot to thin the ACF50, then the big difference was in how I adjusted the nozzle. Cracked it open about a quarter turn, locked the brass collar upto the nozzle and it was fine after that. Just thought I'd post this as it may help someone else 👍

TheMissendenFlyer I used a 1.4mm nozzle spray gun (the type used for spraying cars). ACF also sell a 1M multi directional spray nozzle/tube for @£80 if you want to get into nooks and crannies. The best way to get the spray in where you want it seems to be by placing a sheet over the bike to stop it being blown away and spray it right through the bike from front to backs and Visa-Versa

I use the Karcher K2 pressure washer with the pressure turned down on the nozzle and some Autoglym snowfoam. Gets in all the nooks and crannies. Follow off with a blast of the pet dryer and then allow to air dry for half an hour and a little run round the street to shrug off any remaining drops of water. I use an empty and washed Ecover (other household cleaning products are available) to spray the ACF-50. It atomises really well, much better than the spray bottle that comes with the kit.

I applied acf50 to my bike for the first time a couple of weeks ago and after watching a few videos and some trial and error I have found that the best method is to put the bottle of acf50 into some hot water to make it a bit "runnier" and make spraying easier, even from the little squirt bottle. After a few minutes of using the little squirt bottle that comes with the acf50 I found that it was putting out too much product and I ended up pouring some into a plastic tray (takeaway containers work well) and use a paintbrush to apply the product. For me, there was far less overspray because I am applying it exactly where I want it with a brush and I feel like I did not waste any product unnecessarily but it did take longer and it is hard to get in around some parts of the engine this way.

I used XCP Rust Blocker this year after the review on Bennetts. Maybe you should do a back to back test and use that on one of your machines 😉 The manual spray trigger has an adjustable spray pattern which is better than the ACF aerosol. But the XCP does absolutely stink. It's meant to be more protective than ACF though, it's certainly EXTREMELY clingy and a little goes a long way

MSDS says that the propellant is tetrafluroethane. That's likely what you'll need to get to thin it down further. You could probably use toluene too as it is non-corrosive and certainly better than using other quick-evaporating chemicals like Naptha or acetone.

Phew! That’s not the disaster that I was expecting. I had a feeling that your compressor was going to empty the whole reservoir all over your Street Triple in one sudden ejaculation, as it were!

The tip of the spray gun you used (i think its a degreaser /blaster gun) is adjustable to control the flow of liquid. Having said this, a gravity fed gun or paint gun are more suitable, as pointed out by others. The gun you used is only to be used with the container section at the bottom

Very pink panther like music - love it. As for diluting - I can only think water but then that defeats the object of drying the bike up.

Shultz applicator gun will do the trick. We use a spray tin like that at work but only for engine degreaser which is watery. Compressor is a cracking tool to have in the man cave, tyres, air tools, spray guns, and so much more, I’m sure you will have many uses even if it doesn’t spray acf50 all around your driveway

See when u apply it by rag are u using it sparingly then wiping the excess off or leaving a heavy ish layer on. Am gonna do this to my st but never used it before and I want to minimise corrosion as best as I can.

I use the exact same sprayer that you have with no issues. I warm up the acf50 first and then spray with no issues. Could it be your sprayer at fault? Have you tried putting water through it to see if it works?

Oh dear, I went out & bought a compressor & bits this arvo, as others have said you may have to warm the ACF50 up, or apply it with a paint gun. Be interested to see how you go, or if I get a result I'll let you know. You can get air tool accessory kits online cheaply, try Machine Mart, I think getting the stuff warm will help a fair bit, make it less viscous. The things we go through in order to look after out pride & joys 👍👍😎

Does ACF 50 have any benefit other than during the winter season? Here, in Ontario, my riding season ends on the first day that the road is treated. That day can be anywhere from early November to around Christmas!... but my bikes have never seen salt. That all said, your bike looks great after the ACF application so I wondered if it is worth using, as a protective, during the rest of the year.

It's certainly not going to do any harm - it's a rust inhibitor so if you ride your bikes in the wet at all it's going to help....

TMF I use a pressurized garden sprayer. The ones that you pump the handle to presurize then pull the trigger to spray. Best save the compressor for tyre pressures. Or try a paint prayers touch up gun. Hope it helps.

Get a cheap gravity feed, not suction cup, mini spray gun, works fantastic. I have used that method for years, leave it in the spray gun cup for next time, no warming sprays perfectly fine at sub zero temps too. The good thing with a mini spray gun is that you can dial in the spray volume and pressure with very precise control. Plus I should add, a mini gun is way better than a larger gun, which I used to use. Because it’s more nimble to get into nooks and crannies plus the cup I a lot smaller and as you know you don’t need a lot of the stuff. Hope this helps. Dan.
