“There’s a difference between enjoying Taylor's albums for their music and their performances and their narratives, or enjoying them because you're deeply entrenched in the Taylor-verse and your obsessively combing through the lyrics on each song like the convoluted plot of the 30th marvel sequel” Bingo

Even as a fan I didn't love this album. Taylor & Jack need to BREAK UP. If she continues with the indie folk sound she needs to work with dessner & bon iver again- folkmore albums are her most mature and critically acclaimed. If she sticks with pop she needs to get Max Martin!! Antonoff is capable of greatness- as we see with his work with Lana. But him & Taylor being besties creates such disappointing tracks.

My 10/10 are loml , so long London, guilty as sin, smallest man, black dog, how did it end , I hate it here, Chloe or Sam, the prophecy , Peter The rest are still pretty good . Very few that I skip currently. I’m enjoying this album so I don’t really care about the ppl who don’t like it , just curious. I’ve seen reactions where either lyrics just fly over their heads , or they don’t get what Taylor was doing in the song (who’s afraid of little old me etc). i think all of speak now is a good parallel to the criticisms of the album. its a way more mature album and that's even including better than revenge. theoretically better than revenge should have the cringe flair of "who's afraid of little old me" but it just works for some reason and lines like "now go stand in the corner and think about what you did" and "she should keep in mind there's nothing i do better than revenge" are fun and playful regardless. the production is great with some really cool instrumentals like on the song haunted whereas jack antonoff just creates such a boring environment on ttpd. the choruses feel earned and grand and the songs are written very well like with back to december (NOT TO MENTION ITS A SONG WHERE SHE ADMITS SHE'S FLAWED AND THAT SHE MESSED UP which is very anti-modern swift given the narcissism in her recent projects). i think it really just comes down to the fact that speak now is a genuine album with engaging production, more mature lyrics and good songwriting and ttpd is an artificial self indulgent attempt at being edgy with boring overdone production, really cringe lyrics and generic songwriting at best.

It worked pretty well on Lover as a breath of fresh air, but after Midnights and especially TPD, it's just not her style anymore and every single track sounds the same. The intensity behind the emotions she's been trying to portray lately just does not mesh with Jack's ethereal overly-synthesized sounds. I dont follow Taylor but I once came across a clip of her telling Selena Gomez, about writing lyrics, that it should be personal but not too personal. As an artist myself who sometimes draws vent pieces, I thought it’s a good and smart advice to remember. You want to leave room for the viewer to engage and find themselves in a piece of personal art. I heard her recent album flopped so I came here to hear your opinion and when you mentioned how unsubtle it is, i remembered that clip and I guess she forgot that advice herself. This happens when you move from being an artist who loves the act of creating, wants others to connect to their work and relate to it as an objective creation, to being an artist who knows they have the audience that’s deeply interested in them and their “lore”, wants more and will eat it up, and thus something akin to a private conversation is created. Maybe she’s in a slump. I mean, who wouldn’t with all this success? What is she fighting/striving for anyway at this moment in time? That’s not always the reason someone creates but she seems to be that kind.

Has anyone considered the possibility that this album is a subconscious/semi-conscious act of self-sabotage like Bob Dylan's "Self Portrait"? That was also a self-indulgent double album that left hardcore followers and casual listeners scratching their heads. It was also a quick way for Dylan to get people off his back. Taylor is no Dylan, but they have the same problem -- with dylanologists digging through Dylan's garbage and swifties digging through Taylor's personal life. In both cases, every line in their songs seems to be some sort of clue. Admittedly, she's courted fame more than he ever did, but they both probably got more than they bargained for. I don't know. It's just a theory.

I interpreted The Alchemy as being about her relationship Travis. I thought the heroine line was about Travis being on a winning streak since they started dating. She makes a lot of football jokes in it. She says touch down multiple times, references a team, talks about getting a trophy for being a best in the league, etc. I don’t think she somehow managed to write it after the Super Bowl, but I do think she wrote it when she started dating him hence the few opening lines about being back. She implied her time with Matty was like a manic episode, so I thought the hospital being a drag was about her relationship with him being draining & not working out. Just my interpretation.

I don’t like Taylor Swift and never liked her songs much but somehow accidentally heard a song from the album and loved it and then I decided to check out the other songs and I think this album is pretty good, I like maybe 7 songs and while they aren’t exactly big pop bops, I think they are unique and different so while I still am not a fan, I keep finding myself putting some of these songs on repeat too much. I think maybe because I am a woman and it feels like she somehow manages to use lyrics that encapsulate what it feels like with men and with break ups with them, it feels like she has put into words feelings I have had in my life. I think you as a man probably cannot grasp these type of feelings women have so it makes sense that you find it dramatic or depressing and just not very good because it doesn’t connect with you. I still don’t like her much but I have to say this music is great.

I’m a woman who’s 43 years old and I’ve never been in a relationship, so I’ve never been through a breakup. I’ve also never listened to a Taylor Swift song voluntarily and I think you’ve described why her songs would never resonate with me.

Think there’s a handful of tracks that are great on this album and I loooove them. And I don’t think her life was conducive to deep creative iterative work right now. I’m impressed she was able to make 31 songs given her life right now. This is probably in the top 5 albums of hers for me, but I don’t think there’s room for more albums like this in that top 5.

6:55 "It is uncharacteristically sloppy for Taylor, in terms of songwriting execution." This is my biggest criticism about TTPD. I am a huge fan of Taylor Swift and I can see how this album is just weirdly bloated in all the wrong ways. Folklore and Evermore are much much better in subtle cleverness, especially with the storytelling contained within. Truly a fall from grace. She should serriously consider taking a break.

One of the most common critiques of her among even her fans (at least those with the capacity to see that she CAN do wrong) is that she has glaring quality control issues. It's like she doesn't know what's good or bad. She'll write some incredible poetry and then hilariously awful lines all within the same song (most popular example being Willow and the godforsaken 90s trend line).
@vtheory7531
@vtheory7531 Ай бұрын
@@FPSBuzzNo offense but I think she might have let the popularity gotten into her head, thinking that she can release any song and it doesn't matter if the quality's bad because she's too big to fail. Not that I think she should be taken off her pedestal a notch or two but it might be worth for her to actually sit and take her time making good quality songs that deserve the fame she gets.

@@vtheory7531 You seem to be under the impression that she would even consider this as bad material, which is wholly inconsistent with how she portrays herself and the world around her.

Im not a huge fan but my significant other is. I like the simple stuff. Her music doesnt need to be super deep for me, in fact i just want fun shit i can bop to. After listening to this album i only really saw 3 "bops" out of 31 songs and a lot of potential bops that just get ruined by her being oddly immature and...i think i actually lost it at the one high school whatever song, i legit started cackling. Sounded exactly like the tik tok ai songs people were meming about her writing when she first got with kelce. Anyways that charlie puth lyric was the worst thing ive heard in a long time

I'm actually starting to like her stuff and I liked this album because I felt it was Lana inspired rather than a rip off. But Anthony is so right about her needing to take a break from Jack. She's about the words and she needs someone to make the sound jump out so it's not so homogeneous.

This album could have easily been a 15 song album vs 31. The standard album needs some editing and a more lush production . The Anthology has prettier stand alone piano ballad songs. I feel like if she had picked half the songs off the standard album done some editing and richer production and then chosen some of the piano songs off the Anthology part of the album she could have delivered and more sonically interesting album. It still might have not pleased everyone but it would have felt more like a complete project. This is coming from a swiftie.

@@countyfacts69201000% It just doesn't feel like a standalone album. It's just beautiful songs. I mean Peter, Chloe or Sam or Sophia or Marcus, The Black Dog, The Albatross, The Bolter and the Manuscript are career highlight songs. Very emotional, very moving.

She should've removed Down Bad, Whos afraid of little old me, I can fix him, I can do it with a broken heart and replaced it with The Black Dog, The Bolter, Chloe or Sam..., and Cassandra or The Albatross. Boom. Already 4 times a better album than the one we got. Still not awe inspiring, but at least it's not a train wreck.
