@@spencerjanke7010 the term 'blue-eyed soul' was coined for the Righteous Brothers by the deejay of a black radio station that only played black artists (that was common in those days ... music stations segregated by custom rather than law). Live performance. No auto tune. Just a young man of 25 with a microphone and pure talent. He had a cold and his parents were in the audience. This is a 58 year old video. Entertainers back then knew how to dress. The Righteous Brothers were know as Blue-eyed Soul. Bobby Hatfield passed away in 2003 a few weeks after The Righteous Brothers were inducted into the Rock 'N' Roll Hall of Fame. Check out their "You've Lost That Loving Feeling", "You'll Never Walk Alone" and "Ebb Tide".

I am a 77 year old woman and I remember so well when the Righteous Brothers first came on the scene. Those voices immediately caused most folks, of every color, to assume they were black, because no white guys had ever produced that sound before. They captured the amazement of people of all ethnicities. To this day, their sound is still magical. No voice enhancements, just glorious sounds that have never been duplicated.

I always say, if I was limited to listen to only one singer for the rest of my time, it would have to be Bobby. Amazing vocal range, total command of the lyrics, and never leaves a note neglected. Ebb Tide, Summertime, If I Ruled the World, White Cliffs of Dover, Unchained Melody ... he has no equal, And for a bonus, sometimes he comes with added Bill.
@kay9549

dorissweeley6026 both gentlemen sang well, complemented one another. Bobby perhaps was unrated as a singer. What a blessed voice, many male singers did not have the voice to reach those ranges of octaves. Perhaps they could have, utilizing the autotune feature. A very talented man, left his career in sports, to persue a singing career. We are so blessed that he made that decision ie: singing career. He over the years had done solos songs that have been mentioned. Unfortunately he left us too soon, his music is still w/us. After all this time Bobby you are still melting ❤'s wether the younger set, or older. He is leading the choir, in the heavenly realm. Wait one, just a moment, this is how its done !! Then watch them sing "You'll Never Walk Alone" from the Ed Sullivan Variety Hour. You will know why they are still loved & listened to in 2023, You will also love the blues record the dark haired baritone Bill Medley sings lead on called "I Want To Make Love To You". To hear Bobby Hatfield's amazing vocals switch up to a beautiful solo of "Ebb Tide". Lots of great recordings those two have done together & their solos.

“The Righteous Brothers” are considered by most to be the Greatest Male Vocal Duo Of All Time. I agree. Between Bill Medley’s Lows and Bobby Hatfield’s Highs they can hit every note on a piano. No other male singers can do that. Legendary. “You’ve Lost That Lovin’ Feelin’’ was the most played song on radio in the 20th Century "Unchained Melody" - Bobby Hatfield Live 1965 Andy Williams Show (with his mother sitting right behind him) Considered by most as The Greatest Live Male Vocal Performance In History... I agree. Bobby’s use of “Runs” is masterful. He created the style and set the table that all others have fed off of for decades. 7 notes just to say the word “I” is melodic brilliance. Their name came from doing a show near a marine base in So Calif and a black marine said to them…. You two guys are Righteous Brothers. In 1983, in Newport Beach O.C. Calif. Bill and Bobby at the Jolly Roger Restaurant . I was 13 feet away for... "Unchained Melody"- "You've Lost That Lovin Feeling" - "Soul And Inspiration".... The hairstyle Bobby Hatfield had is called pompadour. They were very popular with male Rock music and Blues music stars in the 1950s and early-1960s. Elvis Presley had one. Just love seeing young people reacting to the music we grew up with. Priceless flipping out your mind's. We wasn't as square as someone think we are. We might be old at least our bodies, but we had great music it's still in our hearts and minds deep in our souls.

I was 17 in 1965 and we were blessed to have talent of this caliber. This live version by Bobby Hatfield was even better than the studio cut which charted twice. Such pitch perfect, soulful and passionate delivery from a young (25) talent. RIP Bobby Hatfield you are missed. Thanks for such authentic reactions guys.

When I became old enough to really appreciate good music, this song was on it & is. I’ll just say, I am on the backside of 40 now, way backside. that’s what brought me here tonight, reminiscing about the old days & good music.

One of the most played songs of the entire 20th century. The Righteous Brothers owned the airways along with the Beatles, Carpenters Stones, and CCR.

Thank you for your great reaction to this beautiful song by Bobby Hatfield. Maybe you will go down this HUGE rabbit hole: music of the 50s and 60s, music that came before and influenced what you are listening to now. You were correct when you said that music doesn't sound like this any more. So true, because this was before the technology and technicians that overly processed the sounds. These singers sound more "pure", more natural, they can bend the notes and not be auto-tuned. The soul can come out.

This song was from a 1950s movie about a man getting out of prison and hoping his girlfriend was still waiting for him. This version is THE BEST cover of that original song. It was so great that it was reused in the movie Ghost in the 1990s.

I was 4 when this performance happened. I can tell you it has been covered a lot over the years. Bobby Hatfield was getting over being sick and his parents were in the audience so he was nervous and he still gave this magnificent performance. I may have been to young for this performance but I definitely saw other live tv performances of The Righteous Brothers. My favorite singers from the 60's and 70's are Elvis, Bobby Hatfield, Steve Perry of Journey, Tom Jones and Freddie Mercury. They all had amazing vocals and/or stage presence.

Oh hell yes I was round, watching it on TV when it aired. Bobby's Mom was in the audience, her first time hearing him perform live. Bobby was nervous, you could hear it in his voice during the interview just before he sang. At the end you will see him bite his lower lip. When you see that he knew then he nailed it, for his Mom. It's still priceless to watch for me. I was 7 then, I'm 65 now. This was real pure music and talent. Nothing beats it. No added effects back then. Him and a mice that's it. When they both sang together it was pure heaven then and still today. That's my personal opinion. They was given the name Blue Eye Soul.

I ren this - yes - I am a senior citizen. I loved the Righteous Brothers, The Temptations, and on and on - the music was fantastic back thern. Hearing this song again, it is still beautiful. My generation had great music, and we all liked music, we all liked all genres of music, we all sang along . I still have hundreds of vinyl, well kept to leave to my daughter. The music from then is still awesome imo. Thanks guys.
