The US 3rd Infantry Division must smash through the dangerous Karbala Gap to reach the outskirts of Baghdad. If the Iraqi Army and Republican Guard can bring their conventional forces and potential chemical weapons to bear during 3ID's dangerous passage through the gap, they will be in for a very tough fight. 75th Ranger Regiment assaults and holds the Haditha Dam.

@@richarddr1234 I would be a little surprised, too. I've seen a propane tank (pretty big one) hit with several .50 cal rounds which just caused half inch leaks to appear. The tank finally went up when someone got lucky and... I honestly can't remember which, caused a spark, fired a tracer or fired an incendiary round. I don't remember or really didn't know as I was just a spectator and it was more than 25 years ago. Of course in a real battle, there could be all kinds of hot debris and flaming wreckage flying about to ignite the escaping gas. A Mythbusters segment debuked James Bond easily turning a propane tank into a bomb with his 9mm pistol. Just doesn't happen.

@@ME911119 Unlike Stephen, I do have some time to waste on explaining why you're flat out wrong. The Kurds know very intimately that Saddam DID have WMDs, considering he used WMDs, most well known being Sarin gas, against the Kurdish people. Saddam also used WMDs against the Iranians in his war with Iran, killing or wounding more than 100,000 Iranians. The only reason no noteworthy stockpiles were captured is because, like how he had much of his air force sent to Iran for "safekeeping", Saddam had them shipped to Syria for "safekeeping". Once he was ousted from power, the Syrian kept them and some were eventually used in the still ongoing civil war there before being destroyed under UN supervision. Hundreds of thousands of innocent lives? Nice exaggeration. The Iraq War claimed the lives of a little over 100,000 Iraqi civilians. A large portion were the result of fanatical and extremist insurgents while far fewer were due to the Coalition. Roughly the same number of civilians died due to the Iran-Iraq war, which was started by Saddam. Let's not forget the rape and pillage of Kuwait due to Saddam's greed. You think America destabilized the Middle East? Then you know nothing about the history of the Middle East. The British and French are responsible for destabilizing the region by arbitrarily dividing up their imperial colonies without care for ethnic, religious, or cultural worries. Seeds of Failure? That's why Iraq is the third most electoral democratic country in the Middle East, right? Because the US "failed" in its objective on ousting Saddam and installing a democratic government. Clearly, your grasp on history is, to use your own word, pathetic. Now then, I've expended what time I had to waste on you so I bid you good day.

I remember crossing that bridge during the invasion, it was wild. Sgt stevens of a1-30 attached to 3-7 took out an artillery piece during the counter attack. He blasted that thing with a tow missile from his Bradley. Saved a bunch of lives that day patiently waiting in the rear until all units have crossed. They thought they were sneaky but not as sneaky as sgt Stevens Bradley and crew!

Huge props to Sgt Duncan and Major Alfred. absolutely earned those silver stars. Making the decision to save wounded enemy combatants in the middle of a firefight/under fire is absolutely a peak display of humanity. With the world so set on tearing itself apart, it don't seem like such a bad thing to me to wanna put a little bit of it back together. -Desmond T Doss, Medal of Honor recipient. i don't know if he actually said the quote, or if its only from the movie, but it sticks with me when i hear of acts of sheer humanity in the face of war

@RK-cj4oc The coalition forces made progress significantly faster than the Iraqi command expected them to, which led to surprised Iraqi units in 1991, as many formations weren't prepared to fight as they believed they were safe in the far rear In 2003, the Iraqis expected another air campaign that would last for weeks before ground forces moved into Iraq, but this didn't happen. That's how the US achieved surprise in both campaigns in different ways

Originally I was supposed to be with 3rd ID before the war kicked off only to have a stop movement imposed on all troops that were going to have a change of station. on 16SEP03, I moved to 3rd ID and the very unit that conducted attacks on both the Karbala Gap and Objective peach. the unit I was in was located 1500M from the Iranian border in the town of Mandali and we conducted operations with the PUK. 1-41 FA is also known as "Glory's guns"
