In this video I wanted to test out the Glidden Premium in Satin the Base 3 to tint black for my pillow paint. I hope this video is helpful and inspiring for you and you enjoy watching this half as much as I enjoyed creating it!

Glidden Premium Base 3 in Satin mixed with
Matisse Fluid Carbon Black
Roughly 14.5 oz of the base 3 mixed with about .5 oz the black paint

PM to Paint measurement (ESTIMATE!):
1.5oz (45ml) PM to between 1/4 tsp (1.25ml) to a 1/2 tsp (2.5ml) paint to start. If too thin add a little more paint (or even a gel gloss), if too thick add a little more PM to thin more.

Gorgeous Jody!, love the blue black, I really like the way it gave a cast of the blue shimmer through out the entire piece. I did see the cracks but not because I was searching for them. Love the tinted base, to me. It looks like Payne’s Gray. As always Jody, I love your work and enthusiasm!!. Thank you 🙏🏼 💗🍀

With a white pillow, you always spin it off the corners. With the dark gray/black pillow, it adds contrast and is a beautiful negative space. The colors are really nice and the shimmer is just "wow"! I hope you use a dark pillow again. Great job, Jodie! ❤

Jodie I like the dark background, the negative space is cool switch for you. LOVE the colors! The spinner looks handy. I also like the different camera angle. Let's just hope that if the paint speaks, that it uses no expletives. Last night's pour for me, the paint not only spoke, but yelled, screamed, kicked and cursed at me. Ahhhh learning. This piece turned out beautiful! You constantly amaze moi!

Hello Jodie! I'm so grateful for all your advice it's opened up a fresh new kind of challenge for my artwork I got the right polycrylic its matte but the base Behr paint is semi-gloss I think so I hope that's still ok. Its a WHOLE quart. I REALLY love the transfer swipes they look hard but I'm gonna gesso a 7×5 tile as my reusable transfer swipe surface. I just hope today by the days end I will have a painting to show ya on my page. PLEASE DROP BY Its just family stuff but theres some of the art I do in short vids 3 mins..I mean you can see the effects of EACH TIME you gave me advice. So thanks again. You're just so nice to help AND a great teacher. I wont have to bug ya again..i said that once BEFORE LOL 😆 STILL I want ALL to know I was too scared to do this type of art until I watched all YOUR testing and process videos. Anyone else feeling overwhelmed ? You're in the right place to learn!!

Really beautiful color palette. I saw the cracks but unless someone is really looking for them I don’t think they’d even see them, as you said they really blend right in.

Hi Jodie, I think it’s gorgeous! I love the new spinner, it’s so smooth ❤️ I managed a medium grey pillow by adding black and that worked. I thought I would try another medium body colour to my glidden pillow. Fingers crossed 😊

Hi Brenda, thank you so much! 😃 oh nice, I’m glad it worked out for you, are you using a fluid paint to tint or more medium like Amsterdam or Liquitex basics? I’ve only ever used fluid so I’m curious 🤗

@@ThePaintedDreamer I used Amsterdam black but it only tinted the pillow. The black you used went a lot darker with less paint. I want to try a different colour but haven’t decided what yet. I’ll have to look back to see what black you used. Love your videos!! Have a great day!

On the corners, sometimes I use cardboard pieces held around the corner to get the paint all the way to the corner. When you release this, the paint does a lovely waterfall over the edges. I feel like I should make a video on that. 🙂

I think you should make a video on that 🤗. I’ve seen others do this and tried it myself a long time ago when I used to tilt my pieces but it’s kind of hard to do with the spinner, I’m definitely going to keep this in mind though especially with my bigger pieces, thank you Karen! 🥰🌺

You need a battery operated mixer for this. I use mine and as long as I keep it below the surface it doesn't add bubbles. Now I have only used it to mix paint and pouring medium or mix up my Pigments! It looks like the one sold on the TLP sight!

Thank you Alanna 🤗 cracks can be caused by a few different things but here I think I just didn’t get enough paint off, I do that sometimes because I don’t want to lose the composition I have so I stop where it is and take a gamble if cracks appear or not as sometimes that can enhance the composition, other times, not so much 😂

Love it but I was so wrong about what I thought it was going to be lol I thought it was going to be one of those spin swipes not sure what they call them but it looks so much like one due to how you did it I love that you used a back background on this piece it worked so great together I have 3 really big canvases I'm wanting to do transfer swipes on and this gave me a few ideas for them so thank you so much for that I've been looking for inspiration since everything happened and I got asked to do that 10 day flash mob challenge that I tagged you in to do as well and I did one piece on my 2nd night that came out great but it's the first piece that I've liked this whole month and one that was absolutely terrible minus the colors everyone thought was great and all I saw was mistakes that could and should have been avoided lol to each is own I suppose lol absolutely gorgeous piece girl I love it has wings lol it's amazing this definitely made it in your top 5 pick from me lol love love love it as always great work!!

Hi Lee, I just did an owatrol video using it as pouring medium and cell activator if you want to check that out it may help. As far as paints I recommend Amsterdam as you can use them both as your colors in your pouring medium as well as your cell activator 😊

Hi ! For the pouring midium can we use water base or oil base deep base enamel paint in bloom technique? Can i use liquitex basic paint for cell activaiter

Hi Swati 🤗 the pouring medium bases I use here are latex paints which are water based so I would go with that and not oil based. For your cell activator if you are using Australian floetrol the Liquitex paint should work just fine but if you are using US floetrol or something else it may give you a little trouble but that’s not to say it won’t work, so give it a try it and see how it works for you. 💜

@@swatikeshkamat9235 I mix the untinted base paint with a water based clear gloss polyurethane varnish which becomes my pouring medium, then I mix it with my paints. I have a bunch of mixing videos on my channel, if you want to see how I mix it up and how I mix my paints, even though your ingredients might be different the idea is the same, video 110 would be a good example. 💜

hi Jodie is that untinted paint your using. I'm in the UK and we don't have that brand. but we do have other untinted base 3's thank you 😊

Hi Debbie 😃 Yes, it’s untinted base paint I’m using along with a water based clear gloss varnish to make up the pouring medium. In the UK you have one called Valspar V700 Interior Wood & Metal in Gloss base C that would be the equivalent. Erica Hughes has used this one on her channel and she’s over in Ireland so that one or something similar. I can’t remember the pillow she uses it may be a Valspar as well but she has it listed in her blooms videos. Hope this helps! 🤗💜

Beautiful! I do have one question. Why are we having such a hard time with the corners of the canvases? Once i spray the back the edges pucker? I’ve tried spraying the corners My only hope is i am seeing it on almost everyone’s videos. Do u have any clue? Thanks so much

Thank you Joanne! I see what you are saying about the corner pucker, I get it with the cheaper staple back canvases I get from Michaels/Hobby Lobby and I’ve noticed it a lot more lately like something has changed. I too spray the backs of mine and they are pretty tight when I go to paint but still the pucker. The only thing I can think of is it’s they way the make them or the materials used in relation to the making. I wonder if getting some of those wood keys to put in the slots will help? For me, once the painting is done and dried though it’s not as noticeable to me so it doesn’t really bother me after the fact.

@@ThePaintedDreamer thanks Jodie i use the Edge canvases from Jerrys so they’re 1 1/2 and definitely shouldn’t be doing that. I think you’re right the keys are the answer. Thanks for getting back to me ❤️

@@joannecavallaro5606 oh wow, yikes I use some of the edge canvases the 11/16” ones and have never seen it with those but yea I think with a deep side definitely try the keys, see how that works out 🤗
