About 6 years to pay off $50,000. $32k in student loans and $18k car loan. I paid off the car but finally wised up and sold it, bought a "lesser" car and made $11k on the deal instantly that paid off my student loans. The money piles up quick without any debt! Keep going guys you'll get there! Stay the course

Nice job! I'm 26 in roughly the same boat.. Just some advice.. with interest rates so low.. not worth having it in a savings account.. Your losing 2%+ to inflation every year. I save my $$$ in gold/silver of which I have 30k... Another 10.5k in a 401k and another 7.5k in a roth. Stocks, bonds, real estate are all bubbles.. Metals are not.. The FED printed tons of currency since 2008 and its showing itself in those bubbles.. Next round of QE will be bullish for commodities. Such as Oil, Gold, Silver, and were going to see inflation at the grocery stores. Check it out. Dollar index finished down -10+% for the year of 2017. Its about to get worse.. Protect yourself. Dont let the FED steal your hard work!

@@lylaaxiom8750 nice one sided statistics. Also read infidelity in men get higher the older they get. That's enough for a divorce and alimony is not the norm statistically. Only when the woman gives up her career to raise the children for a few decades then gets divorced with an expired skillset. KZfaq commentors love to bring up that stat. There's another 100 reasons why women divorce more. Men and women are human and equally as likely to be terrible people. Humans are flawed...equally.

There are people who make millions a year and are still broke. Look at all the celebrities who file bankruptcy each year. Being broke is not about how much you make. It's about how much you keep of what you make. If your expenses exceed your income, you're broke. People who seemingly make a lot of money yet are still broke can't get their spending in check.

If one spouse is a huge spender and the other one is not, it can lead to all kinds of financial woes. I know someone whose husband went and got a nice car and put her name on it, and she had to pay for it (lease). She did not even sign to get the car and he got it because he likes it. She earns way more than him; but, he has poor money management skills and has gone through every penny she had saved, including retirement money, before marriage. Oh, he also opened a bank account without her name and changed all his passwords to the phone and email and won't tell her what they are ...after spending all she had and he is way older. He is super sneaky and hides things from her and they have a family together. I personally think "financial abuse" should be a crime.

hate to generalize, but as a service engineer myself, a LOT of the people in my position that arent fresh out of college are exactly like this. both in the job and out, they try to weasel their way out of any responsibility when anything goes south. there are so many tells that he is lying: the studdering, conflicting facts, the random unnecessary details, the backpedaling when questioned: -he doesnt work for a crazy, horrible company that is punishing him for no reason. he put non-work expenses on a work card and they were nice enough not to fire him if he could pay it back. -his attorney isnt an idiot, his attorney didnt say any of that. he is lying through his teeth and going off of what he's seen on tv. -his wife hasnt been spending all of his paycheck for 32 years without him knowing and committing fraud, he bought stuff he didnt need too, and signed for the car. and now that she is leaving he wants to put it on her. other than trying to start a pitty party in his name, i dont know what he hoped to accomplish by calling.

@Sponge Bob I didn't say "I don't mean to generalize", I said "I hate to generalize". Big difference, the intent WAS to generalize, even if it pains me. There are some hard working older engineers, and some slacker younger engineers, it's not 100% either way- my point is there is a definite skew. There is a sense of entitlement that a lot of the experienced people get, and send the new people to do the tough jobs they don't want to do. The idea being sort of an initiation and that after taking your licks you earn the respect to not have to do anything over time. Young slackers quit or get fired (cuz they don't pick up the slack passed off by the more experienced people who the managers trust), and when talking about field work, the work is usually extremely physical; the hard working older people usually retire early or transfer to a desk job for medical reasons. I have worked for 3 different companies in 5 different cities, and of the thousands of field service engineers I've met, there's a notable curve. New hires are hit or miss (usually miss), but people who are able to make it 2 years or more are generally pretty hard working. Once you get into 5-10 years of experience, the exceptional people start getting promotions and transfer to desk jobs or retire, and the people who are feeling burn out start to just relax into the position and display the traits I outlined earlier. Of the people I've worked with that have worked 15+ years in the field, it is at least 80% like this.

I see too many comments below bothering me commenting on "never getting married" or "women cause debt". Putting a stop to that. Marriage is not cause for poverty. Marriage can in fact help you make twice what you made before with double income. You and your spouse have to stay on page, communicate, and know what your budgets are. Looking at each other's needs as a single person viewpoint while married is the issue. Don't want to get married? Fine, don't get married. But don't blame financial issues on marriage, because it isn't marriages' fault. It's the people's.

My aunt has had this saying ever since i was a kid ”it’s not the big income that makes you rich, it’s about how (little) you spend”, roughly translated. It makes sense and is proved with people like this. He makes very good money, but is in debt. Seems most people don’t know or don’t want to know how much they spend, and want to keep spending and go into debt to do it. It’s crazy how ignorant even smart people seem to be.

Dave, I worked at Nationwide Insurance for three years and it is company policy that they can’t remove a vehicle if the people are going through a divorce. The reason why is because if one spouse is mad at the other spouse they can remove a vehicle and lie and say they sold it or something like that and then if the other spouse crashes it it’s not insured.
@eppyz

Amelia Basia but if the car isn't in his name or is fraudulently and he didn't legally sign for it then how is he legally liable for insuring a car that her never bought? That is the question. Wife okey doked him.

Jeff Eppenger usually an underwriter would have to approve it if that’s the kind of case... when you call an insurance company the person you’re talking to is usually just a customer service rep so sometimes you have to be nice but firm and say you want to speak to a manager or something like that. People always get mad at the person who answers the phone, and usually they no power and aren’t the ones who make the rules.
@EmilyPetersenHomemaking
@EmilyPetersenHomemaking 6 жыл бұрын
Jeff Eppenger He would have to wait for the divorce to be finalized and then send in a written statement that he doesn’t own the vehicle in order for it to be removed or for him to cancel the policy.

@EmilyPetersenHomemaking
@EmilyPetersenHomemaking 6 жыл бұрын
Jeff Eppenger it’s because legally you’re still one entity until a divorce is finalized. He said it’s not final. He definitely needs to sue her absolutely. But I’m just explaining how the insurance company sees it. He should just let the policy cancel by not paying the policy. That’s usually what we advised people to do if the spouse was unwilling to cooperate. Then he could just get a new policy in his own name.

This guy's stories seems full of lies. Lives in Birmingham, AL (very cheap cost of living) and makes $93,000 yet only has $300? Claims to be an engineer yet the company (who pays him $93,000) isn't willing to pay for his work travel? Works on industrial equipment?...that's more of a mechanic than an engineer. Claims he didn't sign for a car and isn't even livid about the wife committing fraud, and non nonchalant about him having to pay for it. He probably doesn't make anywhere close to $93k, probably doesn't have an engineering degree and is a field repairman, probably signed for that car. If people truly need help they need to drop their ego and tell people their real situation. What a pity for him.

He maxed out his company credit cards on mostly non business related expenses, no? They should reimburse him for company expenses but beyond that, if he’s a field service engineer and can’t afford to travel in the field because his cards are maxed out then he’s of no use to the company in this role- he’s lucky they only have him on leave and haven’t terminated him. He and his wife need to get part time jobs, drive Uber, start Lyfting, do something to pay the company card down enough so that he can start traveling again and keep his job.
