You ever had your spirit completely broken? As a guy with suicidal thoughts and depression....”going out and trying to better yourself” and achieve goals is like someone who is crippled trying to climb a mountain But in that case the crippled person still can have the fighting, strong spirit:...take away that and purpose....replace it with pain....it makes even doing simple things completely overwhelming And it’s not so simple to fix
@2005blackpearl
@2005blackpearl 4 жыл бұрын
Yeah I had those things and I overcame them. You can too, but your going to have to want to and you are going to have to realise that like me, it is ultimately your perspective which is making your life difficult.
@helshabini

Yeah Yes, but that is not the point. Let us assume you are in the lowest point of your life. The lowest that anyone could reach. What now?! I guarantee you, sitting there and wallowing in shame and depression will only get you more of it. But even the slightest step forward will cause an upward spiral. It is not about where you are now, it is simply about the best way to move forward.

Wow, that statement is so powerfull Hazem. Glad to have heard it and thank you. Unfortunately those that don't try suffer horribly. It is painfull to see a man that is like that they really aren't a man at all they look more like a baby with facial hair. Sometimes failure leads you to a better path in life. So instead of settling for the type of person I don't respect, I'd rather remain single

I remember this one guy in church I dated, he was 30 living at his mom's house. He had nothing but when he spoke he sounded very ambitious like someone with big goals in life. He was making $100 a month. After about a month or so I saw serious red flags; he said he was too good to work a regular job because he was an entrepreneur at heart. When I asked him what was the plan to get started with business he said he was praying and God would do it for him. He also believed he was too smart to go to school, learn a skill, attend a seminar, SOMETHING... 5 years later he still living with his mom praying and fasting for God to come down and do the work for him. Thank God I walked away back then

I’ve been working on this for about 6 years tho I guess it’s bc I’ve taken too long idk what you think ? I told her I refuse to marry unless I can be a well provider making more than what I’m making now and I’m 26 and making about 30k a year but with the new job working 70 hours or so a week I should be in better position but tell me what changes did you do ?

I don’t know if either of you two will see this, but just a word of encouragement; keep working hard and doing the right thing. You’re growing day by day. One thing Dave says to a lot of callers is “what do you want to be doing in 10 years?” I love that question because the path to get there starts with the small decisions you make today. As you grow into a better you, the right one will come along. Also, you will be so much closer to your financial goals too. 4 years ago I was in a loveless marriage and a financial mess. A little time, some big decisions and a sprinkle of focus and now here I am in an amazing marriage, a beautiful kid and we are on a debt free journey! Oh and I make 30k more in my job now than my ‘household’ income was 4 years ago and my wife stays at home

I feel like my relationship with my bf is currently strained. I feel like he won't want to improve himself unless I break up with him. I've tried talking, I've tried involving him in things with me, but he just comes home and watches streams and plays his phone games. Rinse and repeat. Can't even wash dishes on his work days even after I cook for him. What would be the best suggestions you have for getting them to improve themselves besides just breaking up? :\

@@eclipseshadowyt5917 Not thoroughly, I plan to in the next two months. I'm just afraid to bring it up, he grew up in a neglectful and poor household as a child and he cares very much for me. For example, when he buys food or groceries, he sometimes makes sure to get things that I would like to eat too or at least can share with me. But he has no drive for himself. He works as a floor clerk in a chain, comes home always tired and complains bout his job, I just wish instead of complaining he chooses to improve himself. Anything I bring up to self-improve gets shot down by saying he doesn't have the funds for it, yet whenever he gets a paycheck he wants to take me out to eat. This latter I have been refusing absolutely because I want that extra money to help himself, but he's bitter we don't do anything then. :\

My boyfriend of 2 years has no emergency fund, $17k in debt on a fund, is 45 years old and has no emergency fund, no retirement and is not worried! He only makes between 30-40 k a year. It is making me sick and when we talk about, he says he is not worried. He is a good man but I have worked so hard to get where I am.... It's hard.

I remember watching this episode and thinking the problem wasn't with the boyfriend's low income, but that he had lots of debt and no motivation to get more income to pay off the debt. Just like Dave said 'lack of ambition.' Now if he made 35k, lived on 8k per year, no debt, and was a super-saver and had already saved $50k and was contributing to retirement, then that would be a different story.

I think the concern stemmed from the fact that he doesn't care about paying off his debt and thus is more likely to accumulate even more debt. If they marry and she's worked to pay off her debt, now she has to help pay his debt or else their financial situation will get worse and anyone, male or female, grows resentment if they are constantly having to pay off their partner's debts to avoid damage to their family overall.

Hope we find solutions to both our problems soon, 'cause I can't take this anymore.

She is correct to worry. She will be the bread winner, provider and he will end up saying...."is that all the money you made ". The question should be....what does he bring to the table ! He is already showing that it's okay for her to do all the work. One day he will say SHE is the reason for his failure....... NOPE NOPE NOPE. Get out now. It won't change.

I’m in this predicament right now. My boyfriend works 37-40 hours a week and spends the rest of his time hanging out at home playing video games while I work 40 hours + a side hustle to build a house because I’m 30 and not getting any younger.

I'm currently with a bf who also doesn't want to better himself. I was offered a better paying job across the country and asked him if he wanted to go with me and I could hook him up with a better paying job and cheaper rent and living so that we can save to buy a house but he refused it many times I brought it up. I feel selfish for wanting to leave him because we are just staying broke if I stay here... I have goals and ambitions but sadly we are not on the same page.

It's exhausting... my 26 yr old ex had no life experience. I tried to help, but I think he missed being in High School. No car, no drive to save for one... he was not showing me he had much to offer other than companionship. I gave him a year, he was doing good for 3 months. At least he's still continuing college.

I so understand this caller... I cannot endure a man without ambition. Let his income be whatever it is, but if I see he is making the most and the best of it, I can respect him and walk with him in doing it. I also understand and respect men going through periods of life where they are tired and need to rest and heal before or after some big push. Ups and downs are part of life. But LAZY I cannot endure, and COP OUT I cannot endure, and PERMANENT VICTIM MINDSET I cannot endure. Men of that mind are useless to any long-term endeavor-- they have internalized defeat, and there is nothing more impossible to work with in a man!

It’s sad that so many people equate success with money. Yes you have to be able to support yourself, but there is nothing wrong with living simply and minimalistic. You don’t need million dollar houses, 100 thousand dollar cars. In the US you are taught to fell ashamed if you don’t pursue these things.

I fell for my boyfriend because of my assumption of his work ethics. He was able to juggle school and work and I admired that about him. Now it has been three years of us dating, he doesn't help around the house nor does he go to school. He has absolutely no ambition and tells me that I'm a greedy person for wanting to get a good career. He yells at me a lot too. But I'm still having trouble trying to end it. I've tried to tell him that maybe our goals are different now and we need to go our separate ways but he won't leave. I really do care for him. I want the best for him but I don't know if this is healthy for me.

I dated a woman last year (one time date only) and her ex left her because her previous boyfriend was commission based and struck a 6 figure income to a 7 income figure within the year they dated. He was upset she couldn't keep up with him financially and started to cheat on her behind her back. So at our date, she asked me if I was content with in income, which is great in Northern Virginia, but turned her off that I didn't want to chase some magic dream to be a millionaire. Her ex's ambition and goals rubbed off on her and I feel she is still single to this day.

The world runs on money whether you like it or not. The difference is how much you need for the lifestyle you desire. If the man in their situation doesn't have ambition to achieve further in life while the woman is, then they have a disconnect in life goals. Marriages end in divorce, mostly due to money issues, and it looks like they are off on an iffy foundation. And seriously, only 20-30k income with his debt and at 36 years old, is rather sad.

I know the feeling, I've had girlfriends that wanted to coast through life in some easy job while spending the little money they bring in on nonsense expecting me to work myself to death to give her the lifestyle she thinks she _deserves_ . People like that should be given a chance to increase their value to the relationship and get on the same level as you but if they refuse, leave them behind. You can't have an anchor around your neck as you sink into oblivion because of someone like that.

@@Eaglejake they only get a free pass because there are thirsty men who enable them. exactly. Have a genuine conversation about this. Lay it out as a dealbreaker. Assume the relationship is over unless he not only agrees but SHOWS ambition. Assume the relationship is over anyway because he's probably just acting. Ambition is a self-made impulse. Your girlfriend harassing you into it won't work. Walk away.

@@Eaglejake Yes, because woman are the ones who bear babies and have most of the responsibility to raise them well. They also go through menstrual cycles and suffer monthly and have weaker bodies. Yet. men expect them to be like men AND women by looking beautiful and having a stress free personality? Honestly, some of you men are greedy and lazy because a real man wouldn't expect his women to be a man and a woman in the relationship. If you want to marry a working woman that is in a high end job, expect to marry a very masculine woman that will likely neglect her health, kids and you also.
