It's not another personality, Zenitzu is a sleepwalker, it's his defense mechanism, when he sleeps his personality is freed from fear and that is when he can attack with greater power, as the series progresses he overcomes his sleepwalking. If you've ever read "Heidi" you'll understand, although Heidi was sleepwalking from depression.

Nezuko sleeping for 2 years or however it was the first time, was to adapt herself for not eating. Now she sleeps to "feed" herself and heal if needed. Think of it like: 2 years making the battery, 1 day's sleep to recharge. 😂

So with Zenitsu, it’s not a split personality thing. He’s naturally scared and terrified of demons. His fear inhibits him from thinking rationally and he freaks out. However, when he’s asleep then it’s a different story. When we’re asleep, our fear and emotions are put in lockdown, and our bodies turn to a relaxed state. That’s why Zenitsu is able to attack and utilize his training and breathing techniques then. So in other words, Zenitsu is a badass… when he’s asleep. As for the Twelve Moons, it goes from upper to lower ranks. Muzan is obviously the most powerful one, and it goes down from there: Upper One Upper Two Upper Three Upper Four Upper Five Upper Six Lower One Lower Two Lower Three Lower Four Lower Five Lower Six So the demon that we see here was a Lower Six, the bottom of the bunch.

When I started watching kny I was not annoyed by Zenitsu, I immediately had a feeling that he would show himself and literally through the episode it happened. Watching the reactions of others I immediately know that people will hate him and how they changed their opinions because of that moment(and how he was revealed further) I was just hurt for Zenitsu, because being loud is enough to be considered annoying without even knowing more about the character. Anyway, Zenitsu is awesome and I love him!

He's actually such a good character if you pay attention. Like he's terrified all the time but even while he's awake he still stands agaisnt more powerful demons to protect others. When push comes to shove he stands his ground for those who are weak. You can see this in future seasons a lot.

I got the same vibe when he was introduced, but I would like to counter the idea that it was just Zenitsu's volume that poses the issue. It wasn't so much the yelling as what he was yelling about; the girl he wanted to marry/was harassing and being so very cowardly before we're exposed to the context of his character. Having grown used to a bold, righteous character like Tanjiro, I think Zenitsu was meant to rub us the wrong way before we got to know him. Essentially a reminder to avoid "judging a book by it's cover". Those are my thoughts as someone who likes Zenitsu, but still finds him annoying at times.

Just so you know the Mugen train arc which is after season 1 has two versions a 2 hour movie and a TV version (7 episodes). Watch episode 1 of the TV version as it takes place before the movie and introduces you to a character you will see in the movie, then episodes 2-7 OR the movie. The episodes are a little more detailed as they weren't limited to a 2 hour movie format but the differences are minor and don't affect the story. Main differences are that the episodes have opening "Akeboshi" and ending "Shirogane" both by Lisa and have added ad breaks and Taisho secrets (the post credits), the movie's theme "Homura" by Lisa plays as a special ending during episode 7. Whether you watch the movie or the episodes is up to personal preference, but you should watch all of Mugen train in one sitting and watch the entire ending because of the emotions in the last scene.

My friends when showing me Demon Slayer predicted that Zenitsu would be my favorite, they weren't wrong. He's fun, he's really cool when push comes to shove despite being a coward, he's annoying but in a kinda endearing way to me. His "volume" makes sense to me and doesn't bother me since it's kinda explained with his ability to hear so well that a normal voice and a yelling voice are both incredibly audible to him. He's just really cool, and adorable to me. I also really like how hard he works to overcome his fears, if he was an actual coward or such, he would've never even applied to be a demon slayer. Ofc obviously pretty much all the main slayers are favorite characters, but if I had to choose, well, you know. Also as you saw, Zenitsu is the ultimate sleep-walker. No split personality or such, he's just not afraid and such when he's asleep, and can still act and such physically, which is a pretty cool ability. Your reaction to seeing him tho was great lol, when I first saw it, well I already liked him, but when I saw just how strong he actually is I was just like "FUCK YEAH!!!! LETS FUCKING GOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!" lmao

*answers and infos for this episode:* yeah, zenitsu basically sleeps, and he becomes a badass (it’s because when he’s awake, nerves and fear stops him from using his real strength). the twelve kizuki (demon moons) is basically an organisation who directly works under michael jackson, with the 12 most powerful demons making it up. lower moon 6 is the weakest of them all. there is a lower and the higher moons. 1 is the strongest and 6 is the weakest. in japan, the elder son is important because he traditionally inherits the family estate, takes care of aging parents, and becomes the head of the family. and so him whimpering because of an injury basically is like staining his family and his ancestors who watch and protect him. also right at the end, you called the red spider lily’s stupid, but i do want to tell you that the flower is extremely important in japan. it is associated with death and the afterlife, commonly found in graveyards and temples, and features in japanese folklore and myths. the reason nezuko slept so long right at the beginning was because of the transformation from human to demon. i believe they said this in the first few episodes but when humans turn into demons, they use so much of their stamina that they even eat their own siblings (because they want to replenish stamina right at that instant). nezuko sleeping is simply to replenish stamina, i don’t think it makes her stronger in anyway other than she’s less tired. yes nezuko can get stronger. as you saw against nezuko vs susumaru (the ball/temari demon), she couldn’t kick back the ball at first but then eventually was able to kick back stronger than the enemy demon. tamayo said at that moment that “nezuko is becoming stronger” for demons, it’s both the blood and the person they eat that makes them stronger. marechi, for example, is very nutritious and potent compared to normal blood which increases their power. how powerful is the human they eat does not directly transfer to more power gained. it’s simply that the stronger a human, the more refined the blood is. i should also mention that demons eating demons will also make them stronger. like the lower moon 6 said this episode, the more blood they get from muzan, the stronger they get. and each demon has muzan’s blood (the stronger the demon, it is wise to interpret they have more muzan’s blood)

to be fair for zenitsu his character does somewhat fit the theme of "thunder and lightning", typically in fiction characters associated with thunder, lightning and electricity powers tends to have their personality be either psycho eccentric, energetic/loud OR the sleeper sort as in unassuming initially but spontaneously hardcore since lightning is known to strike spontaneously out of nowhere

Fun fact, Zenitsu's Dorito pattern on his haori is known as the scales pattern(uroko-mon), as in fish or snake scales, and represents protection against evil much like Nezuko's hemp leaf (asanoha) pattern on her kimono.

13:36 Not sure if you noticed but Inosuke said "self taught beast breathing" he created his technique himself. 15:00 The 12 demon moons are divided into 6 upper ranks and 6 lower ranks the higher the rank the more blood they received from Muzan. Kyogai used to be the lower 6 demon the lowest of the 12 ranks. 25:14 They only change the opening and ending every new season so you'll be stuck with the flowers until episode 26. The only exceptions are episodes 1 and 19 of season 1, episode 7 of Mugen train arc and episode 11 of season 3. 28:28 Demons get stronger as they eat more humans the rarer the blood type the stronger they get, they can also recieve blood from Muzan to get a boost in strength, Nezuko is different you'll see later.

You made an interesting comment about the continuity of injuries. That’s because a recurring theme in Demon Slayer is the fact that they’re humans fighting monsters who are functionally immortal. I remember you laughed at Urokodaki’s remark that if the slayers lost a limb, it wouldn’t grow back…but that was the first seed of this idea. So yeah, this anime really does take injuries seriously compared to others. There’s also a certain degree of medical accuracy (which may seem like a weird thing to say considering we’ve seen Tanjiro get up after being hit in the face by a whole ass log trap). But what I mean is that the really serious injuries are going to get thrown in your face in terms of exactly what happened and what’s broken.

I disliked both of them at first. Inosuke mostly because of the standing on a child. Though, one of them started growing on me slowly while the other remained annoying 90% of the time he's on screen.

They like doing that in DS. They give us a negative first impression and let them grow on us. Sometimes it happens quite quickly. They did it with Giyu in the first episode as well, though that was resolved fairly quickly. They did it with Urokodaki (just a little bit). They did it with Sabito (Also just the very first impression). You will notice it more and more with many characters. Though Inosuke and Zenitsu are probably the most obvious since we spend quite a lot of time with them.

Twelve Kizuki is top 12 powerful demon under Muzan's control. Its like a ranking, the weakest is Lower moon 6 follows by 5 until 1 and the top 6 strongest, Upper moon 6 until 1. Kyogai used to be lower moon 6 but other demon surpassed him. Therefore he had been removed from the rankings, as a result his eye has the "X" scar

Zenitsu redemption arc for Luke. Even if its just a little bit you see what potential he has now! But you are lucky that these cliffhangers aren't long for you since you can record and watch a bunch. Imagine us who had to physically wait an entire week for each episode as it was released. But I totally feel you on the cliffhangers, but these are not as bad as they will get later down the line. I hope you are prepared Luke! Loving your reaction to the series and looking forward to the next one!

Many people miss it at first sight, but Zenitsu avoids the fast movement of the demon when it attacks with its tongue, defending Shoichi. And most importantly, he did not abandon Shoichi to run away to save his own life, even though he was so frightened.

Please remember that zenitsu has that super hearing so he himself really can't tell that he's being loud, like imagine yourself being in a loud environment, every sound being amplified in your ears you really wont be able to tell how loud you can be Sorry for wrong grammars hehe English is not my first language

22:56 I believe Tanjiro said that to express the feeling of responsibility and burden. Because he's always been the firstborn, he's used to hiding his worries and taking care of things so that others don't worry, and he thought about his time with Zenitsu specifically because I presume he was treating Zenitsu like a little brother.

I was annoyed by Zenitsu. Never hated him. I thought he was somehow forced into becoming a demon slayer and at least he tries... even when he almost dies from fear. I mean... he literally faints from fear and he still goes into these situations... thinking he only got lucky and survived.

No Zenitsu doesn't have split personality, when he falls asleep he stops gaslighting himself and hearing his own negative bad self esteem. The idea is that Zenitsu has a strong core deep down but has burried it under insecurities. Remember his motif is "hearing" similar to how Tanjiro with his strong sense of justice is both discerning yet simple where he is kinda led by his nose, Zenitsu with his hearing has to learn to filter all the voices in his head (including his own) telling him he's not good enough. Also his hearing helps him still fight in his sleep.
