In The Piñata King, filmmakers Paul Storrie, Chris Lee, and Charlie Kwai of Tripod City profile a town full of piñata makers-and the papier-mâché master who started it all.
For more than 50 years, Francisco and his family have been making and selling piñatas.
Although most of his colorful works of art end up being destroyed, Francisco finds happiness in bringing joy to the children of his community. Now, he continues his legacy by sharing his process with others from his small town outside Mexico City. In The Piñata King, filmmakers Paul Storrie, Chris Lee, and Charlie Kwai of Tripod City profile a town full of piñata makers-and the papier-mâché master who started it all.
Learn more about the making of The Piñata King in this interview with filmmaker Paul Storrie.

At the end of the day, it's an art that's meant to be broken and smashed. But, if it does make the kids happy, all the more reasons to make it then. I hope they continue to give joy to the kids. Thanks National Geographic for sharing.

Vivo en Mexico y nunca he visto piñatas tan bien hechas como esas, los locales lo ven como algo cotidiano sin mucha importancia, pero otros las hacen por amor a la tradicion mexicana
