For those worried about Shadow, the writers and director Jeff Fowler (who animated the dark hedgehog in his solo game) said that movie 3, is going to be very different from movie 2 and 1 tonally. Shadow is going to be a character hellbent on vengeance and anger. Sonic isn't going to be able to talk him down with friendship ideologies like he did with Knuckles. It's a whole other ball game. Shadow the Hedgehog, is going to be a THREAT.

@@michaelrobosa146 Shadow often by fans themselves is seen as edgehog and nothing else. They don't understand his complexity, they don't understand that he is a legit threat, they do not understand his nuance. So I am glad it looks like he is going to return to form here. Sonic 06 for all its faults, handled Shadow perfectly. Sonic Forces and Sonic Boom handled him the worst.

Fun fact, Idris Elba, had presented the producers with four other voice variations for Knuckles; Rocky, Micky Mouse, Arnold Swartzeneger, and highland Scottish. As you've noticed, he was told to just use his natural British accent.

I love this film more then the first one and as fan of Sonic its just incredible that they are giving us what the fans want. Like Tails, Knuckles and the Chaos Emeralds. Now we are going to get Shadow the Hedgehog in the sequel. Just thank you to the Directors and everyone involved, but get rid of Rachel she's just annoying to me.

Watching this movie in the theater along with No Way Home made me remember WHY I love going to the movies. People LOST THEIR MINDS at Super Sonic. Then Shadow the Hedgehog appeared and the noise was deafening. What was incredible was the slow build too; she mentions "dating back 50 years" and it was the KIDS that got super chatty. Then it cuts to the center, the container rises and people are cheering. Then Shadow boi appears and people are SCREAMING. And he opens his eyes and at "My God. Project Shadow." the audience is screaming, cheering, clapping, hooting, hollering, college dude bros next to me were jumping up and down, so I started shrieking it was great. Sonic is about to become the ONLY other film franchise along side the marvel cinematic universe, that has a cinematic universe, that FEELS like it was built from the ground up even though like Marvel, they're based on pre-existing things-the games and comics. What these two film franchises do, is take that source material, and rework it to fit the medium of film. They do the slow build. And it pays off. How is it that Sonic is getting thigs right out the gate, and DC is still screwing things up in 2022. It's embarrassing.

Very great points, and I feel this franchise is successful because they focused on making a good story rather than a universe. DC is not working because it focuses on making a universe rather than a good story for each individual movie An individual story focused approach makes movies great, not a universe focused approach

@@theawesomeman9821 Sonic X is so underrated man. It's not perfect, but the way it adapted Sonic Adventure 2 was AMAZING. REALLY wish it had adapted Shadow's Story from 06.

When I saw the mid-credit scene, the REAL CHILD within me hatched. This movie had PLENTY of Sonic Game Easter eggs. I freaked out, I laughed and I cried and I screamed of excitement in the theater. My family looked at me like a crazy guy 😂 I cannot wait for Sonic 3! Jeff Fowler really knew the assignment. Perfect writing and perfect fun times and perfect action 😎 and perfect comedy. Jim Carrey was really one of the greats! I just hope he sticks around for Sonic 3 🙏🏼❤️🔥

To touch on what the actors see on set when they're interacting with the CG characters, they've said in behind the scenes interviews (and we've gotten glimpses of this through set leaks last year) they have the life-size dummy models on set. They do a take with the dummy models in the shot, and then they'll do a take without the models, and instead use a rig with coloured balls on it to denote the CG character's eye line and such. James Marsden is seriously underrated with this kind of acting though. Since he's done, like, 50 of these 'CG buddy movies', he has a ton of experience acting against basically nothing. So you have these scenes of him in a boat on a lake, and he's just having a heart to heart with Sonic, and you completely forget that he's actually alone in that boat, talking to thin air.

Aside from the wedding scene which hurt the pacing, it's a great movie. Watched it twice in the cinema. Tails & Knuckles were excellent. Cracked me up when Tails hit Knuckles with the car and when Knuckles said to Tails "my revenge will come when you least expect it" 😂

There's actually a comic that takes place in-between the first and second films telling of the backstory of both Tails and Knuckles. Tails crossed various alien worlds to find Sonic and Knuckles spent most of his life fighting in Intergalactic tournaments before meeting Robotnik.

Wasn't expecting this, but I ain't complaining. I honestly thought you guys already saw this in the theater, but I was wrong. I saw both Sonic movies back-to-back at home one Sunday, and I fell in love with them, particularly the second one. I didn't expect to love them, given my apprehension towards the announcement of the first movie and THAT Sonic design that we should never speak of. But, watching them back-to-back gave me a great sense of appreciation for the care and detail put into everything for Sonic and the characters in it. James Marsden, Tika Sumpter, Idris Elba, Colleen O'Shaughnessy (the voice of Tails from the video games), Ben Schwartz, Natasha Rothwell & Lee Majdoub round out an amazing cast of characters that really work well for what these movies are. But, for me, Jim Carrey steals the show as Robotnik. It feels very much like the Jim Carrey of old. Even at his age, he still delivers the goods. Selfishly, I don't want him to retire, but I am not gonna complain about him wanting to enjoy his life. He's been my all-time favorite actor since childhood. And if this is it for him, what a way for him to go out. As for what's next in the 3rd movie (given the mid-credit scene), as well as the Knuckles spin-off show on Paramount Plus, the sky's the limit for this franchise. I can't wait to see what's next.

Tails was given alot of love I don't think it was mishandled at all, the thing about his arc is that it is starting out like the games where at first he needs Sonic's guidence to help give him confidence and you see that during the dance battle. However once he get's that he's a force to be reckoned with and that's something even sega has been screwing up when it comes to him. If they follow through with this there is alot of good charachter development coming for him, but for this movie the most important part was obviously establishing his connection with Sonic and developing that bond naturally which I thought they handled pretty well.

Yeah, people get on the dance-fight scene, but it really WAS necessary for Tails' character to find his footing despite his hit and miss tecord by then.

@@JJMDude I mean, there could have been a better way. Like, what if they needed to overcome a temple or set of traps to get to the compass and that's when they work together? That would probably have been better.

@@mlgamings6110 Because you also need to take a moment to slow down and let them bond naturally before getting to the temple. Stopping at the bar allowed them that room to do so and I'm glad that the writers were smart enough to not rush to the next important plot point just to get to the cool action. A good writer should have paitence and do the proper build up that will make that action hit much more effectively than if they had removed the crucial charachter stuff.

The general movie going audience is not gonna have ANY idea what hit them when they see a certain video recording of Dr. Gerald Robotnik IN CHAINS tied to a chair. THE MOMENT that scene comes on, I'm full on expecting people go to "what the fck are they about to?!" cause listen people Shadow's story is _tragic_ and _dark_ and _heavy._

The Sonic movies are easily the best video game movies at this point. It's crazy that no one else seems to get how to do this yet lol. The work is mostly done for you, just use what the devs give you! You can still tell your own story (based on the IP) but respect what the devs put in place.

I was in a fully packed theater for this movie and in the mid credits when Shadow appeared more than half the people in the theater (myself included) screamed at the top of our lungs!!!!! And I loved that rather than get another famous celebrity they actually cast Colleen O'Shaughnessey who has voiced Tails for over a decade to play him.👏🏽👏🏽

This movie was such a gift for Sonic fans. I loved every second of it and I had a blast catching every Easter egg. And lemme tell you, when as soon as the woman said 50 years ago I almost screamed because I knew exactly what she was talking about. Can't wait to see Sonic vs Shadow in the 3rd movie.

I was surprised just like many others when super sonic showed up and I was quite nervous on how he was gonna look. the reveal and just his overall appearance was even better than I could have imagined. I love that the director and everyone who worked on this movie care about us as fans and are as passionate about their work as we are

Cant wait for third one and Im excited about Shadow mostly because of how they'll put his character in.... it has to be kinda bit darker movie and Im curious about Geradl and Maria cast 🤔 Also, I'd really love Sam Witwer to voice Shadow. He fits these dark characters so much and Shadow is instant win. Yes, Keanu is good choice too, but he's too expensive. I even had a pleasure to meet Sam and even though he hasnt seen second movie he still said he is fan of the franchise and would love to voice him

It could be happening considering Sonic's a Keanu fan so maybe a hint to the idea.

I love that they show Knuckles father Locke. Something they haven't done in the games. I'm a huge fan of the Knuckles comics and I hope they give him his own spinoff movie that follows the comics showing he is NOT the last Echidna. And I really hope they bring in Julie-Su. She's my absolute favorite.

Highly doubt it given the Ken Penders drama (he owns everything to do with Julie-Su apparently, and had also thought about suing Paramount because A) Knuckle's backstory is similar to his rendition of knuckles and B) that one echidna who used the master emerald in that retelling by Tails looks similar to Enerjak - I'm not even joking, he said this on twitter).

This was most definitely the best video game movie ever made. Sonic 3 has a lot to live up to! The power-ups these characters get in the game are so much a part of the gaming experience, the way the filmmakers fold that element into the story in a satisfying way is so great.

This was a surprisingly excellent video game movie. I loved how some of the fights really felt straight out of a Sonic game. So fun, liked it more than I thought I would.

I saw this movie twice and I loved it better than the first time there's so many references from the video game and this is by far the greatest video game movie ever when I saw this movie opening night the theater went absolutely nuts when we saw super sonic and the end credit scene this movie is better than the first one. Jim Carrey is great as robotnik this is what Jim was like from the 90's knuckles and tails are perfect I just love everything about this movie I can't wait to see the third one

The next sonic movie is going to beat the best one yet especially with them adapting sonic adventure 2 arguably the best sonic game/story with emotion and a dark tone I think If they can’t get Keanu get Robert Pattinson to play shadow I think we should also get Amy I think we could see rouge introduced in the knuckles series since she appeared out of no where in adventure 2

Jason Griffith is the original voice actor for Shadow, so he has to return. Since Colleen O'Shaughnessy reprised her role as Tails (We're not talking about Kirk Thornton!). If Paramount can't get Jason, then Robert Pattinson will fill in the shoes. Imao Robert would fit so damn well for the Ultimate Lifeform when using his Batman voice. It's sounds like a mixture of Jason's & David Humphrey's.

Ideas for sonic 3: -Shadow will be an antihero -Maybe hints at other sonic characters -Chemical plant as the main area -Dr eggman will not be the main villain -End credit scene will be a hint at the death egg in space Ideas for sonic 4: -Space will be our main area -Shadow will be good with sonic -Maybe we’ll see the other sonic characters like Amy rose -Super Sonic returns -Sonic leaves earth to go to his planet -first End credit scene would show eggman still alive -Second would show the character Chaos.

That part with Sonic on the shore, tired from running on the ocean, reminds me of Dash in the 1st Incredibles film, where he had to paddle his feet super fast, to get his mom and sis. ashore, abs felt tired on the shore too!!

This just feels like a really genuine, faithful Sonic adaptation. Not literally 1:1 with the comics or the shows, but definitely with the spirit of the franchise.

The first movie was merely an intro to who Sonic is, his allies, the villain, and the setting. Now this sequel raises the stakes higher AND steps into new terrain. Like this sequel now knows what it wants to be!
