Basically the Athletic said Ben wasn’t being professional because he’s third choice and is not a “good traveller”. Steve Holland “berated” him in front of the players because of it. That created a bad atmosphere in the camp for a week and Southgate/Ben took the call for him to leave because of it. Since then it seems like Southgate wanted to call him again (with injury issues to his preferred full backs) but Ben’s declined. My takeaway is that Ben learned a far complex system with Arteta and has been professional to the max even playing with injuries. He’s professional and wants to be treated with respect (like anyone). Ben Foster declined to play for England because of a row with Capello. It’s the same situation. I’m with Ben 100%. Love him and glad he’ll get to rest up before the run in.

Benjamin White was bought as a CB, he was decent in his first season with Arsenal. When Saliba came in he was asked/told to play RB, and his performances and attitude has been impeccable. He seems professional and gracious in accepting his role within the team.

Also consider this. Arteta NEVER got an international cap, and it hurt him deeply. He even considered playing for England or Scotland because he knew he was never going to get a Spanish cap, not while they were winning world cups and euros. So you can't tell me Arteta, a man who should have had but never got an international cap much less call up, would tolerate a player who says "I don't wanna go because I'm not gonna play." No effing chance at all. Something stinks in the kingdom of Southgate.

Ben's professionalism and willingness should never be in question. There's not a footballer I've liked more in quiet steady growth, aside from bukayo, in the last few years as English players go. Mr. Blanco is an individual and retains his boundaries and individuality. That is worthy of all the respect no matter who it is. Arteta loves this and has respect for such. The england camp (if even only in Ben's eyes, which is all to matter) doesnt

I love the way that arsenal board is protecting our player. They knew about the toxic environment and had blanco called the FA directly, how could it affected him, hence Edu stepped up and intervened as the arsenal's spokesperson.. Ben White seems like the strong silent type. Football is his job, not an obsession, and he does it very well. Not bothered about game after he’s played and given his best for his side. Benny "I play when I want" Blanco. The onus is on Southgate for his incompetent man-management. There was no need to publicly mention anything regarding White's decision not to play. He could have simply said he'll talk to the player in private regarding the situation, and should have left it at that. Obviously, White wants to represent England, just not under Southgate. Best 2 English RBs this season are White and Walker.

The job of a leader (Southgate) is to create an environment where his people can be at thier best everyday. He failed to do that with Ben and instead of learning from it, he's putting Ben out to dry and protecting someone who made the environment toxic (Holland). He will never lead England to major success because no one will go above and beyond for a leader like that.

I very very rarely seek to make a racial comment on KZfaq because it will always be twisted and assumed the worst. But there's this great sadness in the pit of my stomach that if he were a black Englishman with his skillset and calibre, his "Englishness" would be questioned; his loyalty to his country would be judged; how disrespectful it is to the King and to country etc. The usual nationalism parroting. Credit to Ben White for standing on what he believes is right. That's all this is. A disagreement between him and management. Something we all can salute for an employee standing up for himself. That Sunday league level assistant manager melt has an MBE? My lord they hand these things out for anything. Rashford I understand getting one, he contributed immensely with helping people struggling with food supplies to a high degree that the government wasn’t even matching which is embarrassing in itself. I’ve just looked up why this guy received his MBE acknowledgment: “Holland has been awarded an MBE for his services to Association Football after a career which has seen him work as a coach with Crewe Alexandra, Stoke City and Chelsea before he joined the England Football ranks.” In the wise words or Mikel Arteta: “It’s a disgrace, it’s embarrassing!” 🤦🏻‍♂️😅

The reality is Southgate and his coaches are way out of their league, they aren’t equipped to be handling players of this caliber. Regardless of if that story is true or not, we should commend Ben for his decision for not tolerated being dismissed for players who are evidentially out of form or levels below him. Anyone who is impressed with Southgate for getting this England team to a World Cup semi final & a EURO final doesn’t have him to thank for it. Despite his horrendously negative tactics and lack of ability to maximise the talents of these elite level footballers aswell as knowing how to make mid-game adjustments - it’s the misguided ‘golden generation’ that are carrying him to a position which keeps him in a job but not towards major trophies, that requires managers/coach who know how to get the best out of a talented bunch. Sorry about the novel. 😅

If England had been knocked out early he would be heavily criticised, He takes them further than any other manager for 50 years and still gets it, I;m no great fan of Southgate, but no other player has problem with him. WE've had so called golden generations before which have also failed , The issue here for me is people are using this White situation as a weapon against Southgate who they've never liked.

Great point about how Southgate prepared for that press conference and the answer he gave to a question he knew he would be asked. Hanging Ben out to dry and spilling his guts about the phonecall Edu made last week has given the media a stick with which to beat Ben White and, as he's an Arsenal player, they will fall over themselves to use it. Southgate 100% knows the reason for Ben's "reticence" and to pretend otherwise is disingenuous. Southgate's unprofessional behaviour yesterday has, in my opinion, totally vindicated Ben's decision to have no part of this current England set up.

Southgate just signed his sack.. there is no way Ben White would tell Edu to call Southgate unless Southgate had already called ARSENAL first because Ben white would be very presumptuous and very egotistical if he asked that phone call to be made without knowing he was going to be selective because players dont select themselves.. so its obvious to me that WHITE had got the heads up about England before Edu made that call.. its not that deep or complicated but this is social media..!

Why now⁉️ I expect Whitegate to be sensitive and considerate to Ben White in particular and Arsenal in general. Because bringing up this issue now could be a distraction to White and Arsenal because of the level they are in the competitions. I think it's pretty clear with what James said at around 14:00 - Southgate and Holland aren't very good coaches or tacticians, Benjamin doesn't have respect for them. We've seen how little composure he has in front of the media when they say dumb things. He showed a lack of respect for someone who probably said something dumb.

It was as easy as saying he had better players in that position and keeping all the hullabaloo about it in-house. He and the FA seem hell bent on making Ben the villain perhaps because the players did not like how the whole scenario unfolded and this is a way of ensuring the players do not take Ben’s side. Southgate has made plenty of odd selections, omitting Ben, the 2nd choice RB would not have bothered the players much unless the players feel Ben White has been unfairly treated. They absolutely had to put this out because most likely Southgate is protecting his mate Holland just as he always protects his loyalists

Charlie George called it how it is , C is for Charlie and C is for Class . There was no way Charlie was going to get a call up to England then be ok with playing for the u23's He Knew and we all knew he was a long way better than 2nd class. In a similar way Ben White is being told " he's made the squad for England because all Southgates options are injured , last time out Ben says ok , what happened? Yep he's on the bench . Meanwhile he's looking at Bukayo at Left back and thinking Southgate is indeed a stupid person who also does what the England blazers say.

Southgate's style is conducive to cup tournaments, but the guy is literally wasting one of the best crop of English talents in years. Also, he definitely does not pick players based on merit but more so based on what he wants to execute tactically. Just look at nagelsmann, new to intl management, but already choosing playera based on merit. Building his squad alledgedly around musiala and wirtz.

@@msimms-lp5qwno other player has a backbone and they all get game time as they're isn't as much competition for their places as in Ben's case, he was pushed out to 4th in rank by Trent,James,trippier,walker but when only walker is fit and white is he can get put into the team after he has out performed them majority week in week out for the past 2 seasons james is constantly injured ben white hasn't missed a bloody game yet, Treen can't defend to dave his life but can go forward, tripper has been making mistake after mistake for Newcastle and is getting old you need to give the youngsters a chance
