Behind every emotion we find a thought. This is very important to know because it highlights how emotions do not randomly happen. Also, we start seeing how by working on your thoughts, you can change your feelings.

Great video! I think it can be really helpful to recognize that thoughts are just thoughts - and that thoughts are not the same as facts!

Thank you. So I guess to work on thoughts first be aware of what is a thought. Accepting it. In the middle of anxiety (the emotion) I am asking myself, “ok, what sentence is my brain saying that got me here to feel this anxiety.” Practice practice practice

Anytime! And yes, for this model it’s about sitting with the anxiety and identifying the thoughts so you can then work on them. I can tell you’re doing great work Monica 👍

Deep Sleep & Relaxing Music Channel Hi there and thanks for commenting! I think relaxing music is awesome! Except when one listens for the purpose of being relaxed or sleep more. It can feel good when you do that, but in the long run you’re teaching your brain that anxiety or insomnia are bad and should be avoided. They then become bigger and bigger problems the more you try to avoid them. That said, if you love relaxing music and listen to it for pleasure, with no intent of trying to avoid a negative emotion, then it’s fantastic!! Thanks again and stay in touch!!

Fantastic post Daniel. The more knotty and less linear issues with insomnia is thoughts; after all, doing SR & SC is pretty much straightforward, practical & easier (at least for me) but thoughts happen whether you want them to or not, and after years it becomes a habitual way of thinking around the problem and hard to overcome. I've made the mistake of not only believing these thoughts but getting caught up in them where they become harden truth (plus ruminating and 'problem solving' - an unholy crucible). This post has been a bit of an epiphany for me. Just saying, 'it's only sentences' is genius - seemingly simple but just saying that immediately takes the sting out; layering 'anxiety' with thoughts has prevented me from making progress. Shall practice this. Although from experience, waking up at 2am is not an idea time to challenge thoughts and beliefs as arousal is too high. Any thoughts on this?

Leighton Carter Thanks to the support Leighton! To give credit where it’s due, I picked up this expression from Brooke Castillo. Now you bring up something important, habitual and recurrent thoughts can create belief systems. We shall talk more about this. As for that 2 am awakening, totally that’s not the time for thought work. I think the key things there are: 1. Consider not knowing the time 2. Don’t argue with reality - you’re awake and you can’t force sleep. When you try produce more sleeplessness 3. Have a gameplan, know exactly what you’ll do when you wake up 4. Let that thing be fun or at least neutral. Not a boring book (which is just trying to trick yourself that you’re not forcing sleep, that’s actually what you’re trying) And then, the next day, you can do the thought work!

I have these extreme health anxiety. This day i thought i had kidney disease, the next day diabetes, the next day cancer. And lead me to worries. And lead me to insomnia. And also lead me to sleep anxiety, because if a person does not sleep well, they might get diseases.

They say depression can cause insomnia. I know anxiety causes my insomnia (for sure). But how does sadness or depression cause insomnia?
@thesleepcoachschool8192
@thesleepcoachschool8192 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Lerlo, I would say it’s not that one causes the other, it’s that they all come from the same place - the attempt of trying to escape a perceived threat. The human brain is a survival machine and it always tries to keep us safe. When we are facing a grizzly bear - perfect! That’s what it was designed for. We fight or hide and we survive. But nowadays, there aren’t that many physical threats around, but the brain is the same so, it gets confused. When it identifies being awake at night as a threat, and it tries to fight or hide from sleeplessness - we get insomnia. If an emotion that is part of the human experience is identified as a threat, we get into trouble. Because it’s impossible to escape or defeat a perceived threat. And when it looks like all we do isn’t working, the brain thinks it’s a really big threat and it’s it deploys even more fight and flight! When the emotion anxiety becomes the threat, and we try to escape it, we have more and more anxiety. When too much thoughts is identified as a threat, we get racing thoughts. When sadness is identified as a threat, we become depressed. I know it’s a lot in one comment but I hope it helps and makes sense!
