Neural DSP have finally produced something that will give them the place they deserve !! With all there previous releases, it wasn't really possible to put their tones head to head with other plugins. This time with the SLO 100, I can see everyday new videos on KZfaq, Neural DSP vs HX Stomp or vs AXE FX etc and everytime Neural DSP is just mind-blowing. It's a fantastic time for Guitar players!!

Neural DSP was very very good. What about cleans and crunch aka fender / vox? --- these plugins aren't so good.for that Kemper and Quad Cortex (when it comes) do change that a bit, but amp in the room is very different (unless you have Kemper with Kemper Kones - like I do).

I used to be a diehard amp fanatic and swore I would never mess with sims after a couple early experiences. These days, I gotta agree with you - I (like many) have a room of tube amps that really don't get much play anymore. This one needs an attenuator to sound decent, that one needs a new set of tubes, etc. With plugins, its the same plug-and-play great tone every time.

To be fair...this morning I setup a DAW channel w/ IK SLO running thru the Neural SLO w/ the Neural's amp on bypass (so using the Neural's IRs/post). This gives the best A/B compare....still not close dynamically. I can share a StudioOnev5 project w/ all the SLOs from various vendors populated if it would help, but easy enough for folks to do on their own. Besides Neural's version, THU's Big Hairy Saldano pack is also fantastic...but Michael is a real pro anyway, check out his channel too.

Well for a real side-by-side comparison of the amp only emulation you need to exclude the cab sim from the equation (and the fxs obiously) . It's easy: turn off the cab ir in the two vsts and put an ir loader (even a second instance of the Neural DSP with everything off but the cab sim) after the two amps sim. One thing, In Amplitube 5, before the first patch update, a lot if the cabinet mikes defaulted to the far edge of the speaker. I am betting that is why these sound so muffled. Took me awhile to figure that out, but after the fix Amplitube sounds very very good!

I think a lot of people get it wrong trying to compare "same settings" between different products, of course they're going to sound different, they were made by different people. I think a better comparison is whether each Can sound good/great using the tools available in the model (without extraneous effort or audio gymnastics to get there) . To compare same settings is a pointless exercise in ignorance of the differences built into the models by their different creators.
@johnnewton1830

Agreed. It should be can I get the sound I want out of each thing I’m comparing and can I get them to sound similar? Just the different in IRs loaded in the stock settings between the two will make a massive difference so if you don’t try to match those up you’re already starting way apart.

GREAT video! I really appreciate this a lot! I thought I was doing something wrong with Amp5. I'm a newbie to all this. I have only used a small amp with no pedals or effects before. So very basic tones with no tone "searching". I was pulled in by Amp5 because of the access to all the hardware and pedals which I've never had access to before to play with effects etc. I have really struggled to get a tight metal tone from ANY of the metal amps in AMP5. Everything sounds so MUFFLED, I thought it might be my monitor speakers as they're quite heavy on the bass. I haven't tried this Nueral plugin, but I have tried the Fortin NTS one and out of the box the tone BLOWS amp5 away.

@@poulwinther well, i guess if you’re comparing them to the air being pushed from a good cab, yeah, they don’t do that, for sure. But, in my little home studio, there’s no way i can track a guitar that’s loud enough to push the kind of air that gives the same feel of these plugins. So they are a great resource for songwriters like myself. I’ve used Line6 foot boards, the Positive grid plugins and iPad apps, ML studios, amplitube and the amp sims that come with the all access slate suite, and I’ve found the neural stuff to be the most responsive, and the closest feel to actually playing through an amp. I think if you’re using like, an Ox and an amp head, you’re going to get a very similar experience as the neural stuff. But, yes- you’re right, i think we should all crank amps as loud as possible every now and again to remind us how good it is to feedback for an hour straight!!! 😼
@poulwinther
@poulwinther 3 жыл бұрын
@@allendean9807 Yes, my point exactly. I also have no way of cranking an amp and even with the Power Station 2 it's a lot more difficult to get good results with a real amp. I've been through a lot of the same stuff as you with similar results. The only plugs I find to rival Neural are Vadim Taronov's sims. Of course you have to use a separate IR loader and find a matching cab but the results can be stellar. I also still use the Guitar Rig Plexi model for leads though.

I've tried both and also TH-U. First of all, i was exclusively tryin' to get an Eric Johnson tone from them. For my taste: - TH-U: good tone, but maybe too "incapsulated" ; -Neural DSP Plini: Better than TH-U, the sound you can get in hi-gain is definitely out of this world, but for me was useless due to hard time to work on bass freqs and the limited amount of gear. Amplitube 5: a i ittle bit more realistic for me and best overall tone in order to achieve a crunchy bass mid lead. With the paid irs (Ownhammer and York Audio) it's the holy grail if you want that specific EJ tone.

Neural sounds great. Downloaded the Tone King trial plugin today. But since I don’t use plugins often, right off the bat I notice the latency….ughhhh. Real amps rule. Looking at the Quad Cortex though…it’s kind of hard for me to get creative when you have the latency, even using low buffer rates etc.
2 жыл бұрын
Latency has a lot to do with your interface(and your computer to a degree) and nothing to do with the plug-in itself. I also had latency with cheap Beringhers and it improved with a Rode AT-1 but I got the axe io yesterday and it blew my mind. 0 latency no matter how high the buffer size is.

I just recently purchased Amplitube 5 Max.....and saw this video.....thought Neural DSP sounded a lot better.....so I downloaded a trial at home....and....I'm not getting the same huge differences that you seem to get here.......here, at home, I thought they both sounded about equal in quality....I would say that there are a lot more tone shaping options with Amplitube, having a choice of numerous amps/cabs/pedals/rack gear, etc....that you can add.....but if someone ONLY wanted a Soldano copy...and didn't want anything else.....I'd say you'd be happy with the Neural DSP.......but...if you want more versatility, I'd go with Amp 5 (max) I will say that I really liked the delay "pedal" that comes with the Neural DSP.....very nice.

I think Neural sounded better but most of the change was the IR. Amplitube was more "sticky" sounding in parts like more saturated lows or something, but meh. Both are good for different reasons probably. Would argue that NDSP has a slight advantage in usability because there's not tons of excess fx in it, just the stuff you would probably want. Ma'ybe for another compare, use an external IR and just dial in the amps the same incl volume, then A/b them. Most of the tone is cab anyway so that would help show the true details of each sim on a fairer playing field. Cheers man

I listen back to it through my Yamaha HS8 monitors that are connected to the Audient Interface. I don’t really like using headphones - it ends up being more work for me because I have to turn the volume of my vocal microphone down every time I play guitar (I do that in Logic after I film) but I like it much better hearing the guitar through the monitors and not through headphones! What you hear in the video is the unedited, direct sound of the plugins within Logic! Hope that explains it!!

It’s a paid promotion because the are numerous things that you can see in this video that were given to us. In this case IK Multimedia gave me AmpliTube 5 Max for free to do videos with…Neural DSP never got back to my emails, I used a demo version. @TSFAHTPS
@TSFAHTPS 3 жыл бұрын
I think latency with amp sims has to do with the processor speed of your computer - some amp sims use a lot of CPU...I know AmpliTube can chew up a lot of CPU because there is so much to it...the Neural plugin seems to be more streamlined and uses very little CPU in comparison which means you have way less latency. You can try changing the settings but if it gets to a point where your computer can't quite handle it thats when you get kinda glitchy sounds and you may get system overload messages
@junkawakami3193
@junkawakami3193 3 жыл бұрын
i think they did that as part of internal oversampling (shame you can't turn it off, IK should look at it), which seems to be the case with some t-racks plugins that introduce saturation/distortion.

If you really spend some time playing with different cabs, speakers, mics and rooms in Amplitube it seems to really come alive. I had a friend who had a real SLO a few years ago and I really liked playing through it and managed to get a really solid sound with my old Rhoads V so I knew if I kept chasing it it would be in there somewhere. I daresay it's probably easier to achieve in Neural but it is fun to twiddle and fiddle sometimes (as long as you get a result lol)
