HUGE fan of this model and the 16233 even more so. Just something so iconic and classic about it. Fascinating movement the 3035/3135. Perfect traditional size not too small or too large. Jubilee bracelet is smooth and silky but breathable at the same time. Beautiful contrast between the steel and the gold especially with the fluted bezel. I love this tapestry dial too - gives the watch a more refined finish and as you said catches the light differently. A great timepiece to suit most occasions. I sold a 16233 several months back and have regretted it ever since. Bought a new one today and feeling much better. Keep up the great videos!

Thanks TGV for your timely review of this beautiful piece, what an absolute example of an iconic Rolex watch. I have recently tried the two tone Daytona but felt that it was on the vulgar side of life with too much attention to its flashiness. That leaves me with the Date just where the gold sits in perfect harmony with steel without screaming at you at 36mm. I have gone into the TGV archives to watch your review of your 116200 Date Just, how you got the guts to dispose of that watch is just pure bravado. Think of those Roman numerals on that black dial is pure elegance in simplicity, I spent most of my life resenting Rolex mainly for the arrogant sort that wear the sub but hey I'm hooked on Rolex bar the sub. Sellers remorse will grip you when watch that vid. All the same I'm loving your reviews, thanks!!

New to your channel. I just inherited my first Rolex 16013 watch that's over 37 years old now from my father after he passed... No clue what it's worth. My father did wear this watch everywhere proudly. My stepmother made sure he saved the original receipt from 1986 where he purchased it.

I only think that two tone works on jubilee bracelets. The Datejust is just beautiful!

American Psycho, one of my favorite films!! Personally not a fan of two-tone, especially on the bracelet, but that is still quite a beautiful watch. It grows on you the more you see it. AND it's the Patrick Bateman Rolex! Don't cross a psycho ;)

It is such a nice watch and I know it is old but i hate to see the stretch of the bracelet.

I love that movie, Christian Bale is really good in it, and the scene where he actually gets a kill by dropping the chainsaw down the stairs is pretty funny.. I know, it`s gruesome, but it`s still funny.. The whole movie is kind of slapstick-y, just, horrible, but funny, and not at any time do I find it unbelievable. One of my favorite actors for sure :)

Great review of an amazing watch. I'm not usually a fan of two-tone, but I'd wear the crap out of that thing. By the way, the line beneath the Rolex coronet on the crown indicates it is a twin-lock crown. My GMT II has one and so has my SS Datejust. Three dots means it's a triple-lock.

that is a beautiful watch. Im not a gold guy but I really like this combination. The roman numerals and the text on the the dial really do it for me, not to mention the dial its self. Hello guys could you help me with one question: this 16013 is the only one I have seen to have printed roman numerals in the outer ring of the dial, but other 16013 models from the late seventies I have seen with the same gold tapestry dial only feature printed minute markers without the numerals. I have seen plenty of this second variation, without the numerals. Can it be that the one reviewed here has been restored and the numerals added?

My father bought one with a black dial for his 30th birthday in 1980 and one matching ladies Datejust for hers in 1983. Beautiful watches, their only ones and appropriate from well-dressed casual to black tie (if you are not one of those "no watch"-purists). I will inherit his one day - I hope it to be around 2060 or so...

When I was a child in the 80's ONLY BIG BOSES AND HIGH BUSINESS MEN WORE ROLEX..!..WHEN I WAS A KID I DEVELOPED A RESPECT-CURIOSITY-AND EYE FOR ROLEX-indescribable feeling towards one..kind of like hearing a song after 30 years -a song you grew up with and you get a indescribable feeling..

I prefer the fold out clasp in the jubilee bracelets, I am not a fsn of the new concealed clasp in the modern ones. What do you think?

Nice review! Rolex "classic" watch. Love seeing the older versions of some watches. How much better it would be for me, without the two tone colouring. Now in white gold; then it would be perfect. (Of course keeping all it's other attributes.)

This watch is a mirror of the eights....Wall Street, Ronald Regan, USSR....U.S was on the top of the world. 30 years ago and now, the world has change a lot and America is the at the place that it use to be.

Before getting into watches this was the watch i thought of when thinking of Rolex (before even the Submariner). If I'm being honest it was a negative perception at that, as this watch strangely reminds me of yuppie excess/greed, it was (perhaps) an unfair generalisation but that was the young me, pre-horology. Nowadays, I have massive admiration for the brand , sure its still a status symbol to the rich and the vain, but that's not necessarily Rolex's fault and they are so much more than that. I'd love to have a Sub, Daytona and Explorer 2 in my collection, stunning pieces and possibly the most perfected watches in their respective genres (although I prefer the Speedmaster to the Daytona as a chronograph).

I just bought this watch thanks to watching this video years ago.

I got the same watch just without the tapestry dial and aboslutely love the 16013 as it is my Rolex for daily use. Matthew McConaughey - Mark Hanna - Wolf of Wall Street wears also a bicolor Datejust but the 16233 model. In several episodes of Miami Vice in Season 2 Don Johnson also wears a two-tone Datejust 16013 (champagne dial) but that watch was a fake as all Rolex were in Miami Vice :)

I think the dots on the crown indicate whether it's a triple lock or double lock crown. This watch is also worn by Tom Selleck in blue bloods, by the Dalai Lama and Pope John Paul II. I told you would regret selling your datejust! You can get a vintage two tone for a great price nowadays since tt is out of fashion, but imo it's beautiful.

I'd be interested to see if you could get your hands on a gold Santos De Cartier like Michael Douglas wears in Wall Street. I'd love to see a review on that piece
