Keep grinding mate, when the cycling media ignore you its usually both of these things: 1. They see you as competition (kinda true, but short sighted) 2. They are embarrassed at how much quality content you can produce with such a small team and resources compared to them to the moon!

100%. Tyler is Tyler, he rides bikes, makes great content, runs a business AND is an awesome family man. He is unique and is admirable. The other cycling channels, media etc would have to have a 10 part mini series to cover all the stuff he does. Maybe the other media probably think they wouldnt benefit from it or like you said they just cant compete w Tyler. Anyways, Merry Christmas, Happy new year may the new year bring more awesomeness 🚲 to you all and ride on!

I am a KZfaq junkie. It's so strange to think I've watched your family grow for so many years and you have no idea who I am, but there's a vibe to you that convinces me that you really do know me. Your thought process and world view bring me joy and comfort. Your adventures on the bike bring me inspiration, and your musings on fatherhood and family life are equal measure fantasy and practicality. You, Tyler, are the most open, honest, and forthcoming creator on this platform. I am grateful for your work. I am a fan for life. Have a Merry Christmas and a never ending string of happy new years.

Exceptional video. Your answers to the questions were great. Honest and personal responses to each one really was pretty awesome. You have a wonderful family and I think you’ve done a fantastic job at building your brand. Your videos are inspiring and so well done. However, I do have one question…has anyone ever told you look like Tom Selleck aka Magnum PI ?! With that said, keep up the great work and we look forward to more content from you soon!! ❤

This is well put, and mirrors my feelings. I was actually pretty bummed this year with the low amount of videos you made. yep we feel the vibe you honest about even your mistake and imperfection, this would make you a good podcaster that have a balance of honoring and reality, and not feeling better than ever guest (like joe rogan that "yea i get it" and add his version), the humbleness make for good podcaster your comfortable in discomfort if its truth, people like it, indeed refreshing

I am not surprised AT ALL that “the cycling media” has ghosted you. Take it as a compliment because it means you’ve built the brand and authenticity you’ve been striving for. You break all of the rules and in no way conform to the industry’s image of what cycling and cyclists are supposed to be and do. And THAT is why most of us love you. There’s a reason why most of these outlets are just surviving on selling ads. And yeah, you have sponsors like Canyon and you have to promote their products, but as you said, you don’t do it in a gross way. Anyway, never change Tyler!!! Eventually, everyone else is going to have to catch up with you.

Thank you so much for sharing with us. I have to tell you... Your philosophy of once you decide to do something, it's over, you've done it, got me through a 200k ride yesterday. I started getting sore around 140k but just kept telling myself, it's already over, you already did this, this is just going through the motions; and it got me through the last 60k. Thank you for giving me that mindset.

A lot of guilt / selfish questions. If I don't ride a couple days, I'm irritated, short, just in bad mood. First thing my partner will say is "please go ride" I come back recharged, loving, caring, 100%. Riders with partners will know.

Wow. This one hit me hard: "I am almost certain I will pass away by being hit by a car." I've often though the same thing, and it's a tough to accept this reality. Cyclists put themselves in harm's way every time they put rubber to road, especially in this day and age where everyone is so fucking addicted to their cell phones.I got hit by a car last year, and I was incredibly lucky that it wasn't worse. I think about this every time I go out for a ride. But the joy, freedom and sense of self-satisfaction I get from riding bikes outweighs the risk. I can't say my family feels the same way, tho...

I agree with you on the cycling media 'beef' . The likes of GCN, Cycling Tips, Cycling Weekly etc etc etc ultimately exist only to sell advertising. Races like TdF, Giro, etc were initially set up to sell newspapers, now they sell advertising space/air time.

I've been following you for quite a while. I always viewed you as a nice kid (I'm 62, that's my perspective) thought the whole surfer gnarly dude thing bothered me a bit. After this video, I don't see you as a kid at all but a good man who I share a surprising (to me)amount with. Plant based but not happy with the whole religious vegan thing, eating disorder (you think you can get to 600, I DID get to 350), the conscience parent balance that so many seem to do on auto pilot, marriage dedication, ect. Oh, and the bicycle\fitness press? I replaced them with you, Gaimon, NorCal, gplama, dc rainmaker and others a couple of years ago. Keep being a good dad, I have 2 sons both in college . They're great men who I have a solid relationship with. I sacrificed a ton professionally to be with them on trips, ballfields , school projects, ect and I don't regret it a bit. My only teeny regret is that they never caught my cycling bug, but they're happy, so that's fine too . I'm very glad I got past the whole dude thing, though it still annoys me a little 😂

Your view about frustrations in a relationship are on point. When you said the idea of giving 50/50 is incorrect, it needs to be 100/100 100 percent of the time, was something that made me stop and think about my own marriage. Thank you for sharing.

1. I've watched all your videos and you rip as a parent. I am literally copying your playbook with my 11-year-old son and 3 year old daughter. 2. You are the least selly outty person I know. Leaving money on the table is so difficult. Thank you Frodo for resisting the power of the dollar. 3. I have the same feeling about getting hit by a car on my bike. It's sorta like a soldier who is killed in battle but dumber. I have completely conceded to future Dave being killed this way. This must be how Surfers feel about sharks. 4. I avoided having kids bc I knew I would have a daughter and that would suck for similar reasons you gave. Now I would literally do anything for that one little girl. Anything to protect her. Daughter's freaking rip. 5. This is long. Thanks VC. Loving the Vlog. BikeDads 4 Life Bro. Yuhhhh

About cyclingtips: as the sister site of pinkbike, i think they may have similar policies, heres what pinkbike said about it: They will not repost or share stuff from other bike-media outlets ad a company policy. I think they make exceptions for individual creators doing vlog type stuff oder video edits, but not for large projects etc. I would say, dont mind them, your content is much more advanced than theirs anways.

Dude!! I've always said, the main reason I absolutely LOVE you is because you're so genuine. You're REAL! And this just showed it more. So glad to hear you say divorce would NEVER even be an option. I've been married almost 40 years, and that's what we've always said too. When you basically say that getting out isn't something to even consider, you work harder to smooth out the rough spots. Keep doing what you're doing. So excited to see what you have for us in 2023.

@10:00 I posted this yesterday on FB, I coach my youngest son's basketball team. There are a few things I have learned coaching Aiden these last four years. Yes, Aiden is good, but even if he wasn't these facts would stay true. This is also true of Trevor. 1) I love that I get to spend time with him. I know shortly, Aiden will be setting his trail, going places in College and life. Time goes fast and as a parent, I will do whatever I can to support him and be there for him. 2) His heart is his greatest attribute to the game. I can just sit and watch him play non-stop. I also love seeing him lead his team even when hurt. As a father I want the best for him, I want to be there for him. He isn't there for me. 3) I need to equip him and trust him at all times. My role as a father or coach is to give him what he needs to be successful and let him fly, when his time to move on to High School, College, or Life, it's still my job to give him what he needs and let him fly. As he will be busy, it's my job and my effort to support him with what counts. 4) Lastly and there are more. I just need to love him no matter what. He will make mistakes, he will get hurt, and he will move away. But my love and house and arms for a hug will always be there. I can not wait to see what my boys do.

Bro your comment on how relationships are 100 / 100 not 50 / 50 was so on point it's ridiculous. The whole when one person give 90 the other person gives 80 until ultimately ppl give zero f*#@s is super true. 100/100 baby!

CT ignoring you is a funny one and comes with a simple explanation imho: because you are (in a way) threat to them. CT have recently fired quite some staff. That sheds some more light on there position.

Not just a threat "in a way," but eating their lunch. More industry ad and promotional dollars are going to KZfaq content at the expense of traditional media. BMC flies Cam Nicholls to Switzerland, Zwift promoting heavily on GCN and Lanterne Rouge, and Canyon upping the number of Impossible Route videos. Even Ben Delaney jumped to KZfaq. Don't expect any support from the media.

My two cents on the mainstream media thing is it’s 1 part fear, 1 part jealousy and 1 part laziness. Fear of you and your audience. It’s threatening to a lifetime keyboard journalist how you engaged your audience…something they will never do. Jealousy as they see how you are able to break down the boundaries of the old guard cycling world … one they are stuck in. And laziness…because as we both know they always look for the cheap and easy story. Ps. Loving the daily’s … keep ‘em up, have to get you on the Nero Show soon. Was going to ask who your favourite cycling KZfaqr was … but I didn’t want to start a riot 😜

I appreciate the comments and honesty on the relationship with your wife and your kids. I hope that the young guys listening here will take note. Relationships are work. Having kids is work. Our son is 1.5yrs now and we've had a pretty rocky start. It's been hard and i mean HARD on many days for both of us. We both know we want each other, we want that relationship, we are on the same boat and no one is going to throw in the towel. So we gotta put work into it. The days that are the easiest is when both give 100%. We are more loving, more compassionate and everything seems to flow seamlessly. Always pay attention to your partner. Sometimes you gotta give a 120% or 150% and pick up the work your partner can't to at that moment. I think you transported that message in many of your videos and I applaud you for that. In a time where it seems like every option is open it is refreshing to see someone commited in something and having that one anchor in your life will make you a better person for sure. Be it work, family, friends, art, music, whatever. Always give a 100% and if something does not seem worth your time, do something else. Keep on grinding VC, we are cheering you on.

Great video! Meant to ask this before you went through these, but wondering what your wife uses to build up capital (you discussed bike riding as a way of building up currency; how does she get to do the same?).

She didn’t have much for a while, but in the last 3 years she has found a great group of friends, a workout class she loves, and is super involved with the kids after school activity’s. Whatever she wants to do, I will support 100%.

Tyler the philosopher...in a onesie. Never watched a bad video from you and this one was great too. Like others, I am so happy you do these vlogs each December. My wife is also a legend (and a vegan) she ran 101k last month...she is 58. The 100:100 ratio is so true in a relationship. Mark
