"Resurgent Republicans captured Democratic seats in Arkansas and West Virginia and bid for control of the U.S. Senate and a tighter grip on the House Tuesday in elections shaped by deep voter discontent with President Barack Obama.
The party's leader, Sen. Mitch McConnell, dispatched Democratic challenger Alison Lundergan Grimes in Kentucky after a $78 million campaign of unrelieved negativity.
Two-term Sen. Mark Pryor of Arkansas was the first Democratic incumbent to fall, defeated by freshman Rep. Tom Cotton. Rep. Shelley Moore Capito was the GOP winner for a Senate seat in West Virginia, the first of her party to make that claim since 1956.
Republicans also reached out for relatively easy pickings among Senate seats held by Democrats in South Dakota and Montana.""* Cenk Uygur, Ana Kasparian, Ben Mankiewicz, Jimmy Dore (The Jimmy Dore Show) and RJ Eskow break it down on The Young Turks.

***** give a man guns, laws based on the bible and turning 'Murica into a theocracy, lower taxes and no minimum wage so he can get rich off the back of his employees ( or just pay less taxes, because taxes are baaaad ), and the risk of dying like a damn animal because he can't afford healthcare, and... he'll... somehow vote republican. And before you bash me, i'm not even American. Just sayin', education and healthcare and not freakin' dying of hunger in the richest country on Earth should be rights. Not privileges. That's all i wish your country freakin' provided, nothing more. by the way, while you squabble over petty shit like this, the ultra-rich in your country get away with tax cuts and legal loopholes that let them get richer and richer, while the rest get poorer and poorer. But yeah, ignore that and just hope that they'll reinvest and treat their employees fairly so that trickle-down economics will work. sheesh.

s casino You're preachin' to the choir....(do you have a saying like that in your country?) Simply because I hammered the Democrats, it doesn't mean that I'm a Republican. I'm an equal opportunity basher. Considering the BIG picture, there's not much of a difference between the two. America is still fighting the oil wars, which goes on no matter who's in power, but this administration has made some really stupid moves, especially in the Middle East. Bottom line.....the international banksters and corporations still control America's politicians and much of the rest of the world. One specific example of the cluelessness of the American people is the Federal Reserve Bank in the U.S.....most people think that it's a government bank, but it's actually a private bank owned by 12 American and international banks. They have a 'license' to print money, (among other things,) then loan said money and reap the profits. Btw.....they don't call it printing money. Their name for it is 'qualitative easing.' Lololool. The world's finances are controled by a few hundred people, and the sheeple are too skull-fucked to understand that they're getting screwed, every which way but loose.

***** no, it's not illegal, and it's not a republican issue. See, you have a first past the post system - ie, one representative per district. Many other countries have a proportional system - multiple representatives per district. In the case of first past the post, the party with the most votes gets the only representative. In the case of multiple representatives, the two-three most voted for candidates wins. If the democrats split in two, both parties would be quite small - in other words, the republicans would rule the entire country. It's sad, but that's how t works over there.

yeah this country is s cluster fuck and so is religion. But at the end of the day it is up to the individual to accept the teachings as a GUIDE. And if you want to get stupid and say well religion teaches how to kill. Well yeah it does and if you wanna retain that it's on you. i'm not an idiot so I know murder is wrong. And those laws prevent crime? No because if that individual had morals they would go get a job instead of getting some quick cash. Right? And why put laws in place? I mean if people have a moral compas wich btw needs no power to function just a DIRECTION they wouldn't need to put laws in place and PAY people to do so. Right?

Okay... I've said it before.. and I'll say it again.. we are a CENTER-MODERATE country. Today, November 5th, we will be labeled a Center-Right country.. I hope that people look to the ballot initiatives that did pass.. every ballot initiative to increase the minimum wage passed. Other, progressive positions passed as well (overwhelmingly) in states you would not think. Florida had a 60% threshold on medicinal marijuana, it fell short by just a few points. There is a silver lining here and yes.. I love California like Ana, but the nation is not California! This was a test, in my opinion, for 2016 as well as a referendum on Obama. So what have we learned? Run someone in 2016 that is not Center-Moderate and (we) the Democratic Party will lose. Talk all you want about running Elizabeth Warren and she will be soundly defeated. I do not dislike her, I like her ideas.. and I think the majority of the nation (when you take her ideas and put them up for a vote) likes them. However, I've said it before and I'll say it again. The Republicans know that 2016 is a make or break election. The next president will appoint at least one, maybe more Supreme Court justices. 2016 will shape how we go forward for decades to come and it will define us as either a Center-Left or Center Right country. It will be Ronald Reagan all over again. So, when you think ahead to who you will support in 2016... make a sound decision. A centrist Democrat like Hillary is much better than a Scott Walker or Rand Paul. After all, we can swing at anytime back to Center-Right.. if you think the next two years will be bad.. think about the next few decades under a right-wing (5 or more justices) Supreme Court. If you like Trickle down economics.. civil liberties being overturned... and corporations REALLY getting their way and having NO OVERSIGHT... then avoid this advice... after all.. California is still part of the union.. and as much as I like Cali, and Ana likes Cali... it is subject to what happens in the U.S. Government!!

Madonna MI I know the question was addressed to Volox, but as an American, and also as someone who has been a part of the expatriate community for 8 years (I am current back in the US).. I would say that yes, there is something wrong with that. There is no real sense of balance, and it seems the exact same faction, and cultural mindset keeps being projected. In the long run other countries will outpace us because often far right wing ideas holds a nation-state back immensely. In a sense I am looking at this from the perspective the the US wants to go in an authoritarian direction where people just blindly do as they're told. Expats will stop coming here, international tourism to the United States since 9/11 has seriously been crippled. Look I have many many friends in many countries and on every continent. Most of them are 100% fine with the prospect of never being able to obtain a US tourist visa because there are a lot of different countries that are moving forward in this era, and they are opening up, and often there are some very interesting places in other parts of the world too. The US is not the only unique place on Earth. We have to kind of keep this in mind. I keep it in mind because I want people who are not Americans to love America, or to at least have something positive to say about America. Why? Because I was born and raised in America, and I am proud of America for the accomplishments that many of our ancestors strive for and did achieve. I am also African American/Black American, my ancestors fought in every single American war. So yes, if America is going to continue down this right wing direction then it spells trouble for the future of America. Because the best talent will go to other countries, and if the right wingers want to curve it. They will not choose to offer better incentives for the talent to stay, but will just make a reactionary decision to probably make international travel for Americans illegal. It can easily go in a totalitarian direction. A lot is currently at stake in this current decade!

You can't aim your campaign at people who don't vote. The electorate in midterms consists of people who have nothing else important to do on a Tuesday. Turnout is always below 50%. Wage workers and students can't afford to vote. If you target your campaign at them, you are just grandstanding for the next election cycle, which candidates can't afford to do when their job is on the line. All we can hope is that when Gen-X gets old, we will stick to our principles, and it will become possible for midterm candidates to run left.

The Young Turks "I use the Bible as my north star, because I don't know how to use a fucking compass." Jesus Christ, that's the funniest shit I've heard in 3 months, goddamn, that almost killed me.

I think it has everything to do with Obama's policy and action. I know almost everyone thinks he's a shitty president and so they're connecting his policy and actions with the Democratic Party, so the alternative being vote Republican. The same thing happened with Bush's term, and people came to hate and vote out a lot of Republican representatives and senators for his own idiocy

Voting is private so you have a chance to say what you really think without the PC liberal police telling you what to think.

The economy was a major issue in most States ESPECIALLY Arkansas. Nearly every democrat at some point went on about job creation in their State in one form or another. The fact that these people didn't get that shows just how out of touch they are with what's been going on. The EPA thing was extremely unpopular within the State and if Parker had supported it then he would have had to deal with the fallout. And finally, a politician in a very religious State is going to pander to religion. Parker isn't the first and won't be the last in a long line of people doing so. Going by his concession speech, this doesn't even address the possibility that a Democrat can actually be religious. I mean it's not like conservatives have a monopoly on Christianity and there are plenty of socially progressive churches out there. It's a shame that TyT just doesn't get that States other than California have different cultures and the people there are going to want a representative that will give them what they want, not what a bunch of California types want.

Hey Ana, I thought CA was the shit too until I looked at the voter numbers for governor and saw how RED the whole damn state is except for LA county and up north (San Jose, San Francisco, Sacramento area) I'm from the Inland Empire and I would've never thought that San Bernardino County and Riverside were so fucking red! I need out of S. Cali!

I left Arkansas at seventeen to join the Army. 10 years later I returned and thought I made a wrong turn and ended up in El Salvador. Hispanics everywhere! I had to learn Spanish. I'm bilingual now bitches! By the way nothing turns a hot señorita on more than an Arkansas accent applied to Spanish.

Its unbelievable that Democrats abandoned their party platform. If you voted for bills you believed in then stand by them and explain yourself. At least you lose without giving up your dignity.
