Burglin' the first five houses in Greenview in this stealth video game released for the PlayStation 4, Thief Simulator.
In this first part I'm playing in a way specifically optimised to gain the largest amount of XP quickly in the fewest amount of trips to rush that Backpack lvl 2 upgrade, so I can steal more per trip.
I'm going to be stealing as much as possible each trip, but I'm only returning to previously looted houses for BlackBay items, special loot, missions and on one occasion a safe. And once at the start of this video, when I revisit 110 for the pots and pans in there because I needed the money.
Wondering if you should buy the game, too? Well, it does have a couple of issues, such as:
- No graphics options at all
- Only one profile (at least on console)
- Only one autosave, no manual saves
- The one autosave doesn't always save
- NPCs see through solid objects
- NPCs don't see or hear you at all
- Non-existant house owners in 109 and 110 hear you
- NPCs following a wrong routine
- NPCs breaking routine randomly for a moment to come to you
- NPC pathing making them phase through walls
- NPCs getting stuck in one place for up to a day
- Animations, even in the rare cutscenes, not playing correctly
- Items randomly missing
- Items in drawers get stuck
- Items cannot be picked up
- Items disappear from inventory
- Items disappear when dropped on the ground
- Storage can't be opened with certain items in inventory
- Hideout wallpaper is never saved
- Police gets randomly called infinitely when no burglary has even occurred
- Police gets called when driving car in certain spots offroad
- Police gets called because locked doors are loaded open/left open by NPCs
- Camera spots you where no camera can actually see you
- Switching tabs on PC before closing the text box in Rent-a-Thug tutorial softlocks game
- Breaking dishes in 110 before accepting the mission softlocks game
- Game crashes reliably, especially after hacking server in 303
- Game never ever, EVER saves again after picking up server room keycard in 302/hack server in 303, unless after beating story you IMMEDIATELY start NG+
--!NOTE! about this last issue: If you pass the point of no return (server room keycard) and the game is closed, either by you or it crashes, the last savepoint the game recognizes is whatever save you had last where you also exited to main menu and then exited out of the game, before picking up the keycard. If you reach the point of no return in new game without ever closing the game in between and exit the game without going into NG+, then guess what: you have no save and must start fresh! Happy birthday!
I once lost 5 hours of progress because of this, which is what ultimately deterred me from buying the DLC.
But if you can overlook these few small problems, then I can assure you this game is at least x10 better than the Thief reboot from decade ago.
(The issues are the same on console and PC versions, I have both)
