@@chrilpy Put it this way if Harden was still present they would not have been swept. If Harden was replaced by players equivalent to his $40m salary they also wouldn't have got swept. They got swept because they lost Harden for nothing. Remember to acquire Harden the team had to trade their depth so to not have him or replacement players was a huge loss. The more concentrated the roster the more devastating the absence of the star or stars as they trade depth for the stars. The Nets not only lost Hardens $40m from the roster without replacement but Joe Harris who was the 4th highest earner awas injured the entire series. That's around $60m removed from their roster.

Are you talking about the Memphis offer or the Rockets? The Rockets don't own 4 picks. Two of them are swaps which aren't as valuable. Two of the previous swaps ended up being worthless. It is too late to really tank this season so the 2024 pick would likely only be the 9th pick. People keep exaggerating the value of the offer from the Rockets. It wasn't that great a deal.

As a nets fan, i think its better if we just blow it up and go more on the OKC route. Get a crap ton of first round picks, develop your young players, and most importantly, ESTABLISH A FREAKING CULTURE. Something akin to what the Nets had in the 18-19 season aka "The Bench Mob" nets. Just a establish a fun but also WINNING culture is whats very important. Having to get or Trade for stars during the offseason just tends to work short term until they either win or want to request a trade elsewhere. As much as I enjoy Mikail... he's not an All-star. Definitely a player that compliments a championship roster as like the 3rd guy. But I would focus on building around Cam Thomas and have him be the next coming of AI. Not only is he a great scorer but if he can be a great perimeter defender or playmaker then he is really your core player in your rebuild. That is just my two cents

As a Rockets fan I am over joyed at their incompetence. I do not believe the Rockets offered ALL the picks for just one player. Even so this tells me they do not believe in their ability to draft. In other words evaluate/develop talent. Thus they go for established players. This type of mentality leads to over paying players with egos and risks internal discontent. This mentality also leads to disregarding good coaching and elevating "star" power. There are a couple of players that can "power" you to a championship but the Net's mistake is to assume there are several of these players out there - there aren't. Harden has never won a championship - his ego and style almost preclude it from happening. The best strategy for winning a championship is the "San Antonio" way - for that you need a good coach that has more clout in the front office than any player(s). The Rockets, for instance, have many flaws but in my estimation have a chance of being a championship team in the foreseeable future. The Nets have none! What talent they have will likely leave the team at the first opportunity.
@windowman96653 ай бұрын
The nets should have tried to trade with Houston to get their picks back. Houston would love bridges, especially coach udoka. The Nets should've never signed KD and Kyrie to begin with. They were building a decent team with DLo, Caris LeVert, Jarrett Allen and Spencer Dinwiddie with Kenny Atkinson as HC. However, the ownership wanted to seize the opportunity to lure KD and Kyrie to the Barclays Center and to 'stick it' to the Knicks. Unfortunately, this never worked out and neither giving up a butt ton of assets (including Allen and LeVert) to get James Harden, who never completed a full regular season with them and little over a year ago he requested a trade to the Philadelphia 76ers (when he and Darryl Morey were still BFF's) and the Nets FO granted his wish and they received Ben Simmons, Andre Drummond (who left in free agency), Seth Curry (who also left in 2023) and 2 1st round picks (the 2027 one is Top 8 protected). And while they've managed to get a decent haul from the KD and Kyrie trades, pehaps it'd have been better of not going through the hassle of signing two bonfide divas and trading for another one. And TBH the Knicks dodged a bullet there as they were also linked with KD and Kyrie and now they're glad that they've chosen Brooklyn - the Knicks are now a really decent team with Jalen Brunson as the centerpiece. And here's the big 'What If?' scenario - what if the Nets beat the Bucks in Game 7 of the 2021 ECSF and go on to win the championship? Perhaps Harden doesn't request a trade so soon? Perhaps the Nets let Kyrie go since KD and Harden alone gel well? Or nothing would've fundamentally changed except they'd now have a championship banner hanging on the rafters. No one would ever know unfortunately

KD and Kyrie ruined the Nets. They were building a fun, young, winning culture until they showed up. They had the dumbest demands from the front office (hiring Steve Nash, getting rid of all the young guys) then blaming the front office when it fell apart. Organizations have to bend the knee to stars out of fear that they’ll leave. But most times what they want is not a good idea. Sean marks is the problem
@WolfsDE3 ай бұрын
The only way the Nets have any shot of getting better is to get rid of Sean Marks. It was his ego I think that created the environment that made KD and Kyrie and Harden want out. More than any other factor. Marks reminds me of another former GM in the league who got full of himself and thought he would create the next great team before the current one was done. (Ahem...Bulls). Only Marks has never really had any success on that level. But this has been the way the Nets have been for their entire team history. Get some good players who look like they could be great, fail to build around them and bam...either they leave as free agents, demand a trade or have their prime years get wasted on a joke of a team and they never come close to competing for a championship. The only way it gets better for them is to take accountability for the mistakes of the franchise, bring in a new front office and clear out everyone who has influence on basketball decisions. Scouts, analytics department, coaches, GM....if I am ownership...I clean house. Hire new people to fix this issue. If within 6 years it still hasn't turned around, then I would say ownership has to consider they don't know what they are doing and maybe it is time for an entirely new regime and sell the team. But they have to do something radical if they are ever going to have a legacy that isn't a laughing stock of the league. It is the same problem the Clippers and Kings have dealt with as well. Granted, they both look like they have figured some things out and are running way better these days. But until they win a championship, the stink of failure is still going to cloud the franchise. Same thing with the Nets. And don't get me wrong. I am a Celtics fan. But I lived in Sacramento for 12 years and grew to appreciate the team and the fans in Sacramento. Most of whom are good people. I am sure that is true of the Clippers and Nets and their fan base as well. But, the cure all for a bad history is winning. Until the Nets do it, they will still be one of the 3 teams that get joked on like crazy.
