Started about 8.5 years ago, trying many other sports to be active and loved it since the start. Moved countries, trained a lot as white belt and blue belt, got pregnant, had a bad hand injury, went back to training 10 months ago into a new gym that I now absolutely love too and just had first comp back after hand injury (while foot injured) with lots of friends around me. When I started back home, I was the only women training, now we have a nice and big women group at both my previous gym and current one (same affiliation, still train there from time to time).

First off … I love your videos! ❤️ I started about 3 years ago, my brother actually found out about the gym and convinced me to try it out. At first I went a few days here and there, be MIA for a couple months and then go again lol 😆 then Covid hit and it sucked I actually missed it. but after Covid and the gym finally reopened I’ve been training on more frequent schedule 😀.

I haven't started yet! I start in November after I'm done with a race that I'm training for. My husband is a brown belt and has been doing doing jj for what feels like forever. My kids recently started and thought it would something fun to learn with them (but also feel the need to increase my self defense skills).

Hi Kimberly! I love your videos! My husband started BJJ 9 years ago, so I've always been around it. Our daughters have grown up on the mats. About 4 years ago I decided to join in on the fun! I soon became pregnant and have had 2 back-to-back babies, so I'm just now getting back to some drills, when the babies allow me. My 8 and 7 year old girls compete and we have our own gym, my black belt husband is the Professor. So BJJ is always around and is a vital tool in helping to teach our daughters (&myself) discipline, patience, persistence and effort. Good luck with your surgery! I work for an orthopedic surgeon and we have great outcomes with our proximal hamstring repairs!

So happy to hear that you are finally able to get back into some training :) And phew, that makes me happy lol - recovery has been going smooth so far, almost 2 weeks post op. Still a long way to go but it feels good to get over that first bump of the procedure itself. ps- another winner was chosen but I really appreciate you sharing your story and encouragement :)

I was going to a gym close to my house that was not bad just not the best. Now I go to a very good gym with a very good Sensai, coaches, training partners, gym and there is a lot is respect. Hi Kim!! Thank you so much for doing this giveaway!! I hope you are recovering quickly & doing well ♡ You are truly inspiring & deserve a speedy recovery To answer your question.... I started jiujitsu this past January & have absolutely fallen in love with it! I'm 20 years old, completely clueless about what I want to do in my life, & am an overall mess. Jiujitsu came to me during a tough time time in my life when I felt just out-of-control & just going through the motions of life but never really enjoying it. It has really helped to change my perspective of the world, who I am as an individual, & help me discover what I truly aspire & wish for in life I had been working a job which constantly stressed me out & made me so mentally, physically, & emotionally drained. I wasn't taking care of myself & was so unhappy all of the time. I started to become an angry person which I had never been in the past & that terrified me. I knew that something needed to change in my life & that's where the art of Brazilian Jiujitsu came in to play When I was younger, I was involved in Tae Kwon Do. One night I was reminiscing at 03:00 a.m. & remembered how much it had benefited me & how happy I felt at that point in my life. I needed that again & decided to start looking at different martial arts schools in the area. I originally planned on karate or Tae Kwon Do but was unable to find any classes that fit with my busy work schedule. I came across the school I'm currently training at now & decided to give the adult BJJ class a shot. I thought I would absolutely hate it but decided to give the free week trial a chance. Thank god I did lol! It was so different from anything I had ever done before & I sucked at it (I still do) but I didn't care. I fell in love with the challenge & just wanted to continue to learn more & more. I had something to look forward to again in life & something that made me curious, excited, & happy again. The art of jiujitsu has helped me learn to control my anger, be okay with not knowing everything, & learning to trust in myself. Plus, I made a decision to put myself first for once & do what makes me feel amazing 🤍💙💜🤎🖤

Hi Kimberly 🙋🏻‍♀️ I’ve always wanted to take self defense classes A good friend of mine introduced me to BJJ back in 2019. It was very hard in the beginning not knowing any techniques and rolling with more experienced people But it is that which was missing in my life and a good exhaust Then came covid and the gyms were closed I became pregnant in 2021 So I had many periods where I could not train But I recently started training again and I must say it feels good to be back

Hi Kimberly!! , all the way from South Africa here.😄 i got into BJJ after getting out of a emotionally abusive relationship, I have a coping mechanism of freezing and not reacting when uncomfortable, i was really looking to build my confidence again after being in uncomfortable situations that i felt weak. I wanted to learn how to protect myself in SA (not the safest place as a woman) and be in the moment spiritually and get used to responding in tough situations, i wanted to do krav maga and checked out some other martial arts online for women, i dont like a very competitive environment where I feel unsafe and more reserved , and i came across your page for females training and loved the honesty and motivation on the mental and physical benefits. In March I gave it a try at a lovely mixed gym with men and women of different races(being indian i didnt feel like i was treated differently), the team was so amazing, I felt so supported and pushed to grow, it was better than meditation for me because i was forced to be present and accomplish something for myself. i felt like I had another family. And BJJ people were all so lovely and spiritual too, It made my breakup seem like the best thing that happened to me. I know feel like I know my worth and capabilities. It changed my life!!!, i want to workout more and get into nature, do breathing exercises that help my anxiety, and i eat whole foods and love how i feel energy wise .and no matter how hard it gets, i wont stop. Its a sport of life essentially, everyday each person is challenged and growing, no egos around, just competing with myself each day, such a confidence booster yet so humbling, and I love that!

Hi! I’m a 25 year old white belt (got my first stripe 2 weeks ago!) and started training for almost 6 months ago. My boyfriend has trained for about two years and the passion that he has for BJJ made me try it out. And it was just as fun as it looked. It has made me feel more confident and happier to be a part of this awesome sport. I can’t think of any other martial art that you actually try to submit the other person, and in the end you’re thankfull and compliment/help each other out 🥹 I’m the only active girl in my gym (which SUCKS sometimes) but the boys make me feel like home! They are all tall and heavy so I’ve been struggling with rib pain but it’s worth it. THEY make it worth it! 🥋🖤

Hello! I’m a 15 years old girl and I started jiu jitsu about 8 months ago and I’m in love with it. So a year ago I started doing Muay thaï until the bjj coach asked me if I wanted to try it and I said sure! I started and it was so scary, I was the only girl training nogi but the more I showed up, the more I liked it. And than I transitioned to mma, so now I do nogi class 6-7 days and muay thaï 5 days a week and multiples classes a day and I’m supposed to have my first bjj tournament in two months, I’m so excited. I really hope ill do well:) Everytime I’m always so happy to go to class and learn something new even if I’m rolling with bigger and stronger guys, that’s not what’s gonna stop me from doing the thing I love the most!

HEYY!!! Im so excited you are doing this. I love watching your competion vlogs and your are just super fun and happy to watch!! Anyways how i got started: So my dad had done it when he was in college and wanted to get started again. Mostly he wanted something that we could both do to spend time with eachother. My dad and little bro started bjj and were loving it. They kept trying to get me to do it but i just thought it was the weirdest most awkward thing!! ahaha. They finally convinced me to try it out and i went in with a frown on my face. I was convinced i would go out hating it. I LOVED IT. So i signed up and thought it was fun but would rather do ballroom. GOOD THING i didn't quit because i am OBSESSED now!!!!! Ive been doing it for about a year and a half now and had my first comp almost a month ago. Ever since then i am non stop loving it and cant stop!!!! Ive been going every day for two weeks now, but i dont have enough black shirts! It is very annoying, but anyways i love Jiu Jitsu and will do it foreverrrr!!! And yes. I am an extra small ;))

Good for you for doing your best to minimise toxins. I find it overwhelming, it takes a lot to pay attention to not only food and water but also self care and cleaning products, cooking pots etc. It’s time consuming and expensive but worth it. I’m huge on good quality meat and dairy as well. My brother and I have a small sheep farm so I get some home raised lamb every year. I try to grow most of my veggies and fruit in my garden, I think that even with organic stuff in the stores you can’t be sure that it’s pesticide free. There’s many loopholes that growers get around to still get high yield. It’s hard to get clean produce unfortunately… I buy leaf fat at my local butcher and I render it to make tallow. I want to try to make body cream out of it too… will see how that turns out.
@kimberlykinch
@kimberlykinch Жыл бұрын
It can definitely be overwhelming, but I actually enjoy it. I think it's so great that there are so many brands out there making better products and I'm learning so much about how you can make your own. Having a farm is such a big goal! That's so awesome that you can get meat locally. And i 100% agree about the organic product in stores - just because it's labeled doesn't necessarily mean it's totally free of pesticides :/

Hey, I am a 16 year old girl I have been training for four years, I got my blue belt in December, I started training because my friend wanted me to join with her and my brother and cousin also train jiujitsu and they made it look really fun ( I was on the fence for about a year debating to join). I fell in love on day one I was never in a martial art before and I was kind of nervous but everybody is so welcoming and they’re always willing to help you when you don’t understand something or don’t believe in yourself. I find Jiujitsu has helped me a lot with my self-confidence and believing in myself though. I have met so many great people along my journey so far and I hope I will meet so many more. My sister walked into my living room in 2010 and said she was going to give this "jiu jitsu" thing a try. After a quick google search I told her I'd tag along. I have no idea how she chose this specific gym but it was a primarily Wing Chun/Escrima gym that one of the instructors (a blue belt in BJJ) had convinced the owner to let him start a no-gi BJJ class. I fell in love with it while my sister quit after a few months to deal with some back issues (from prior to BJJ but exacerbated by it). 12 years later I'm still going strong. I'm also definitely not a XS in mens let alone in womens, I just felt like sharing. Good luck with the surgery. No comments about how excited you were that your girl Ffion destroyed her division?

How I got started with jiu Jitsu: 💙 I grew up in a smaller, country like town and stumbled across kung fu initially. I loved (and still love) kung fu and did it for a number of years and even travelled over seas to study it! But I ended up having to move to a bigger city for work as a singer. I started googling ‘martial arts’ and randomly decided to try “Jiu Jitsu” after listening to a Jocko podcast. I had NO idea that it involved rolling around on the ground 😂 So when I rocked up to my first ever class I was completely shocked to see a bunch of people on the FLOOR 😂 Anyways, I totally fell in love with it and still love it to this day. I’m currently in the same boat as you and cannot WAIT to go back but my injury still needs more time to heal 💜 LOVE YOUR VIDEOS AS ALWAYS 🥰💜💙

Hey! I am a 13 year old girl and a gray belt in Jiu Jitsu (two belts from white). I have been training Brazilian Jiu Jitsu for around four years now. when I was younger, my mom would always get me into martial arts because she always wanted me to know how to protect myself. I start off with karate, went to taekwondo, but nothing really 'clicked' for me, and I never really got into the martial arts. Then, my mom took me to this gym. SBG. I had no idea what it was that I was so nervous, but the funny thing is I actually saw one of my teachers there, saying that she took her daughter here and it was wonderful for life skills and to protect yourself. So I tried it out. I never actually really got into it at first, but then covid hit. We were at home for so long, and when I started going back to the gym, I felt something different. I actually started to enjoy it and appreciate the confusing yet wonderful art of jiu-jitsu. I've just been loving it, and I'm about to go into the adult class in my gym. Just want to say, I love your videos kimberly, and I love watching a female's perspective from jiujitsu. Thank you, and good luck to everyone else in the giveaway!

I have heard so many good things about BJJ from podcasters I listen to plus I have always wanted to learn some self defence / martial arts. There’s only one BJJ school in my country and luckily a great one. I went for an intro class several years ago but then my mom died and all my plans fell apart. It took another 2 years before I came back to give it a go. To be honest, I didn’t expect to like it. I wanted to do it because it was a challenge to me, I’m used to solo sports, that’s my comfort zone. I was so surprised how much I enjoyed it! It is a challenge but I also love it. Did not see that coming at all 😂 I’m a three stripe white belt now. I too had to hit pause because of a recent surgery (not related to BJJ) but I’ll be back to the mats as soon as I can.

Hey Kimberly! My boyfriend has been training bjj for about 5 years now and I’ve went to a handful of classes with him when we were travelling over the years but was always nervous of Joining a school at home. We moved countries and I thought this was the perfect opportunity to really go for it this time. We started doing bjj together 2 months ago and I’ve been loving it. Im sorry I didn’t start sooner! I love how I feel after class. I’m always so surprised how fast time goes in class - time flies when you’re having fun! Since I’m still very new to the sport I don’t have a lot of gear and would love the chance to win these rashguards :)

Hii!! I'm an Extra small gal here! I'm a 4 stripe white belt (which means basically nothing but me not being "the new girl" anymore) I started training a year and a half ago, my boyfriend is a purple belt and started teaching me simple self-defense concepts. I didn't make the choice of oficially training in my city ( he lives in another city) because I wanted the choice to be FULLY MINE, I didn't want to just do jiujitsu because he does it. And when I finally decided to do it, I fell in love at my first class. I love learning, doing drills, rolling with everyone and I love sucking at it, I enjoy way too much the process of learning and how much of a humbling experience jiujitsu is, I love the effect it has on how my anxious brain is, there's no room for anxiety when you're training, it has changed my train of thought in unreal ways. I now talk about the benefits of jiujitsu at the minor provocation

I just finished my first week of BJJ and absolutely love it! For the last 10 months I’ve been on a healing journey from an extremely traumatic relationship. I’ve hit a new milestone in my journey and have found the motivation to find my strength again. This past week, BJJ has helped me feel safe, strong, and powerful.I can’t wait to continue on my journey of healing & truly feel like this sport will help me better connect with this new version of me. I absolutely love your videos and have added watching them into my nightly wind down routine.

Hey Kimberly, I started BJJ just a few months ago. My boyfriend and his dad are already training for years (brown & black belt). I've always been playing squash at an international level, but as the sport is losing its popularity I wanted to go for a completely new challenge. I train multiple times a week and got addicted :) In our area we try to promote BJJ to as many women as possible. Thanks for your videos, love to see your passion for the sport!
