Most of his "accidents" were planned... one notable exception is when the Jacob's Ladder fell on him. What he said afterwards was true. If he hadn't shorted the sparklers when he grabbed it, and hadn't had used thin wires which acted like a fuse, he could have died. He said as much in a post on Reddit..

You really think he didn’t realize it would be asinine to put a potentially lethal setup on such a flimsy base? Instead of, say, screwing everything onto a heavy plate and putting a piece of plexiglass between himself and the ladder? He’s not stupid so I’m pretty sure that all was planned.

The way his hands shake after the ladder fell on him is upsetting. I was working in a cramped basement in the midwest USA. Basically a glorified crawl space. I stood up too quickly and shattered an old incandescent bulb with my head. Apart from the actual shock the adrenaline from a near death experience can really shake you. I'm lucky my scalp was dry, I was wearing rubber boots, and I have lots of hair. Fucking horrid. I've got other stories but that was the one time I almost actually went to the hospital.
@RonLaws

Man the video of him catching the giant Jacobs ladder falling on him still makes me recoil in terror, mainly because A: i've had more than enough shocks in my life to know the unpleasant feeling of it. B: knowing he was using a high power transformer as well which is 'how to defeat an rcd with one component' :[[
@daddy7860
@daddy7860 Жыл бұрын
I was shocked in terror because that definitely did not look intentional or prepared. He was in full contact with 2kV leads at ~200mA which can completely throw your heart off and kill you. I played with a Jacobs Ladder MOT in my room once too, and I was using reverse dead-man's switches to turn it on (same switches from microwave doors), and had my finger just barely ready to slip off the switch to quickly shut it off the moment I noticed anything wrong. Scary stuff
@nikkiofthevalley
@nikkiofthevalley 9 ай бұрын
@@daddy7860That's a really smart way of doing that. Also, that's still a dead man's switch, you would still end up turning off the power by not pressing the switch if you got shocked.
@boringpolitician
@boringpolitician Жыл бұрын
As a child I've been shocked a few times. Both on 220v (wall outlet - that stings), but also by capacitors (I picked apart a camera once, with a built in flash, you know, juicy capacitor - but I forgot to discharge it and whammy! I was taught a lesson on importance of discharging capacitors. It felt like my finger became a magnet, and was drawn to the capacitor, I had no control in my finger. Had two nice holes in my skin afterwards though). A few years back I had a coffee chat with two guys who had worked as electricians since the 80's. One of them explained that when he was an apprentice he was working on power lines inside a home with his mentor. His mentor got a nice shock, since they had apparently fotgotten to cut the power before working. The mentor was fine, but a took a break while the apprentice went on working. After some time he went out to the house's stairs, where the mentor was sitting, having a smoke. He was out, cold. He became tired, took a break, and that was it. Today they (electricians and others who work with power wires/lines) are super "religious" about having their hearts checked if they get a shock, here in Norway. Because you don't feel it if your heart has any problems after a shock, you just feel tired.

Those capacitors are silent zappers 💥 It’s definitely a good idea to go straight to the DOCS after an electric ⚡️ shock. We have a very similar attitude here. At least in my industry

When I was younger I disassembled a microwave and I was looking at the turntable motor, I thought since it wasnt connected nothing would be able to happen, I held it in one hand a turned it with the other, the two terminals just happened to be touching the holding hand. My hand spasmed and it was a very strange feeling, I measured it afterwards, turning the motor at that speed produced around 600 V AC which definitely taught me a lesson about motors being generators and what those voltages can do.

It's a miracle he survived that. When I was a bit younger, I decided to repair a device by myself... It didn't go all that well. I fixed it, so I went to plug it in... Without the plastic cover it had. I tried to pick it up while it was plugged in with both hand aaaaand that's when I got shocked. According to the people there it was for quite some time, but I'm not sure if I can believe that I survived being zapped for that long (unless I'm superhuman?). Thankfully it only caused me extreme pain and nothing else. I did burn a good chunk of my left thumb tho, I basically have no fingerprint.

You're an electrician and DON'T know what a Jacobs Ladder circuit is? Shame on you. Great video. Medhi is quite funny. Good value :)

I can't think of a better instructional for electricians or anyone curious about electromagnetism. Finland is #1 in education because they make learning FUN!! The serious Sallys and killjoy Karens need to get out of and stay the fuck away from education. This guy is teaching people extremely complex physics in SECONDS which would take traditional methods years.

I imaging it could be. I suspect 30mA is just a rough guide. It would depend on the person's health and heart condition
