Third part in a series of hogs dropped in their tracks using thermal and night vision optics...thanks to Third Coast Thermal.
Also thanks to Tactical Brass Recovery.
My apologies to Darrell who was left out of the credits, but who contributed graciously to this video.
WARNING! This is a hunting video!

I'm digging that you use heavy enough rounds to bring them down the first hit. Others on KZfaq use a lighter round and the hog just runs away somewhere. Then they go into spray and pray mode. Too bad I'm getting too old, this looks like fun.

You angels. Carpe Sus always shows pigs at their best. Soon feral hogs will buy their own bbq's just to make a buck off their relatives getting off'ed. Your cookbook will be called From Bullets To BBQs. In 3, 2, 1, has a very special meaning now.

Another awesome video! What's your favorite factory round nowadays?
@CarpeSus
@CarpeSus 5 жыл бұрын
I really liked Federal American Eagle Speer TNT 90 gr. factory ammo. The only problem is that it has become unicorn ammo. It seems they made a bunch, once, and have not made it again. Supposedly, more was going to be out in Dec 2018, but that did not happen. ERRRRR! It is a varmint round but does perform very well in hogs. It almost always comes apart and makes large wound channels. The exception is when it hits a big bone such as the humerus on the way in and then how it performs will vary, but this is true with other expanding ammo as well. Because it fragments so much, when it does overpenetrate, it is as lots of fragments that are not apt to pose significant danger to things down range beyond a very short distance. This ammo is rated at 3000 fps from a 24" test barrel and I was getting 2800 fps from an 18" barrel. SECOND to this, I like Hornady SST 123 gr. ammo just fine. It also tends to fragment quite a bit. Both rounds are good for killing hogs. Both do a lot of soft tissue damage. The Hornady SST also penetrates farther because it holds together better.

Your Reap doesn’t have internal vid right ? So what do you use? I have X Q 38 vid out not the Trail unit. I could buy Pulsars-but there are also units on e Bay that look as good. Any help on this ? Any comments much appreciated.
@CarpeSus
@CarpeSus 5 жыл бұрын
I have an IR Hunter, not a Reap, but both are made by Trijicon and neither has internal recording. So you have a Pulsar Apex XQ38? I use, and you can use, one of these...hobbywireless.com/recorders-storage-cards-c-179_68/black-box-vr1500-fpv-recorder-with-builtin-lcd-tailored-for-fpv-use-p-772.html www.getfpv.com/lumenier-dx600-dvr.html These are the same basic unit. All you need to figure out is a way to hold it on the rifle. I have a crafted little aluminum plate screwed onto a scope ring half on which I zip tie the recorder, but you can to a buttstock pouch or come up with your own method. You will need to figure out the cable situation. I think that between what came with your scope and what comes with the recorder, you can make it work. At worst, you will have to fabricate a cable which should be pretty easy to do if you know anything about electronics.

Carpe Sus I can try. It will be pretty boring compared to yours. Shooting lane at 100 yrds in impenetrable cover. All of a sudden maybe sitting all night they are at the feeder. 15 yard circle to put em down or it’s getting out the machete and hack a path to find them. If I get one or two this winter I will be happy . I won’t be able to hunt much. I love the meat. Course we give them a smorgasbord to feed on and auto feeders when we aren’t there. We buy corn by the ton with rice waste and any old grain we can find. Hope to hunt more nights back home in Wisconsin for coyotes this spring. We have way too many around. I also have Bobcats and now a Cougar on game cams that was unheard of a few yrs ago.

I am not sure how to take that question...like maybe we are 19.5 hours in 2019 and I have failed to produce anything new all year long, LOL! More seriously, yes. I will be heading out again later this week. The videos are important to share with my landowners to let them know what I am doing and what I am doing for them on their properties.
