Great video Roger. Many new tractor owners don’t realize just how time consuming and tough it can be to get all the air bled out of these front axles since there is no vent on them. Another thing I like to tell people is to leave the dip stick loose for the first few hours of use, this allows to help bleed the air out naturally since it will stay vented until the dip stick it snapped all the way down in. Just be careful not to get the tractor wet with the dip stick loose like that. Keep the vids coming!

This seems to be a reoccurring problem across brands. Seems every tractor is not found to be low in gear oil, but I've heard enough to know it's a big item to check when you buy one. Good video. Thanks for sharing.

Excellent video Roger. But his falls on the dealership pre-inspection to make sure the fluids are topped off properly on new equipment. ALOT of dealership`s are NOT prepping these tractors properly before they are sold to the customer(s). Luckily, we have a pretty good dealer where we bought our latest BX23s. They went over the tractor with my wife and i very thoroughly before it left the dealership and delivered to our home. They wanted to make sure WE KNEW how to check ALL the fluid levels and had us do a hands fluid check before the tractor was delivered. Even though our dealer knew we had owned several tractors over the course of 50yrs, they just wanted to make sure we were familiar with the latest tractor we bought from them. I wish everyone had a dealer as good as ours is.
@TractorTech2 жыл бұрын
My dealer did the same thing. They showed me everything about the tractor and where to check the fluids. I think some dealers just throw people the keys. I agree the front axle being low is 100% on the dealer.

I was never told to check the front axle oil level. I never had any leaks, so I never did. I assumed it was full when it left the dealership. But after watching this video, I checked it and there is no oil on the dipstick. That's 280 hours with not much oil in the front axle. Not very happy to learn that. I planned to change it early. Now I have to.
@TractorTech2 жыл бұрын
I'd try topping it and see how much it takes before changing it. Maybe it wasn't super low.

Stupid question, TT: what kind of axle oil should we use? As per the owner's manual? Also, I tried removing the axle plug and yanked on it really hard but it wouldn't budge. Waiting for the temps to get up near 40 and use an adjustable wrench. Very good vid, clear, concise and great closeups! Cheers, Bob

Great informative video. Liked and subbed. I'm going on my 2nd year of ownership, tractor was pre-owned by the dealer and was very well taken care of - looked new. Does that axle oil stick have low and high markings on it or just a minimum? Will be checking out your other vids on the BX2370. Happy Holidays to you and a healthy 2022. Bob from Syracuse, NY

Your statement is soo true!!! For a $14,000 to $16,000 tractor the dealer should make sure at least the oil level is on the mark. But I still love my tractor, it has never let me down.👏👏👏👏👏👏👏🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸☮️☮️☮️🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺

Thanks so much for all your videos. I have this situation with my new bx1880. Is it possible or will it harm to overfill the front axle?

I wouldn't overfill it. It may cause the oil to foam.

It's surprising that some Kubota dealers and their techs, aren't aware of properly prepping a tractor. That's discoraging.

I had the same problem with my new Kubota BX23S. After a few hours, I checked all the fluids and the front axle oil didn’t even register nor could I see any fluid. I called the dealership to complain and to check what type oil they used as I’ve heard that you can use the Kubota hydraulic oil. I didn’t want to mix gear oil with hydraulic oil if that was the case. Sure enough they said they fill with Kubota hydraulic oil, so that is what I used. Have you ever heard of using hydraulic oil instead of gear oil for the front axle fluid? Have you heard of any problems with using hydraulic oil?
@TractorTech2 жыл бұрын
You can use hydraulic oil in the front diff. It is thinner so it is more prone to leaking out. It works in the gears for the rear diff, so it will be fine in the front diff. I personally use gear oil because it is cheaper and does the job. You were right, I would not mix the 2 oils. When the front diff needs serviced, you can change to gear oil if you want.
@haganrichmond2 жыл бұрын
@@TractorTech Thanks Roger! I may go to the gear oil once I change the fluid. Keep up the informative videos!

Mine was the same way, checked it the day after got it home, the overflow tank had a smidge of fluid in the bottom. Put over half a bottle in after filling and running and topping up to mid point Min/Max. Dealer had stated a Friday prep finish (on a Tuesday) and then called Wednesday and said they got it done early. Now I see why.

Also there is another problem. When you run it and get front axle warm, if you take the fill cap off you most likely here some pressure release from heat. After awhile that pressure will eventually push the seals out when the seals become worn Simple solution is to drill the cap with a small hole and insert a cotter pin in that whole. Now you have a way for the pressure not to build up in the front axle and push oil out of worn seals. Old school fix.
