Awesome double bear episodes! They are prolific....everywhere. Bear bangers really work, Minnie sonic boom. We have a cabin in the forest, I watch for tracks all the time. No garbage is ever left behind. We leave a bear pad at the door. ( piece of plywood with screws in it) I have noticed evidence of bear trying to get into the cabin. It works. We lost our bear dog with old age, I miss him, he worked hard in his day. So appreciated him! ❤❤❤ Stay Safe!

Funny story we have 3 grizzly’s and 4 black bears in the zoo where I work and well we tie bags and buckets full of goodies for the bears enrichment at least once a week so they have to work for it and don’t get bored, Seems funny people actually do that to keep the bears out of it, my bears would have a lot of fun trying to get that out of the tree. Tell me though does it work I know the park rangers tell people to do it but I don’t think I would be comfortable enough knowing there is a wild bear in my vicinity knowing how much I know about bear behavior even my injured bears can take me out anytime they choose to that’s enough for me, your very brave so stay safe. I must say I’m impressed you got it up there so high. Nice job. 👍🏻♥️🐾♥️

I'm a brit by the way no bears here not wild ones anyway I think I read that you should hang your food 1 or 200 ft away from your camp but that could be meters and do your cooking in another area about the same distance but that was someone wild camping in a tent probably not as important when your in a camper but I would imagine a bear would open one up like a sardine can.

Check Sylvia Shiell and her suggestion. I also used a lighter cord with the weights attached to toss over the tree limb,. Then tie the lighter cord to the heavier rope and feed that up and over the limb. Attach the heavier rope to the garbage and raise. That is the way we did it in the Boy Scouts at Philmont Scout Ranch in Cimmeron, NM. You never gave up though and made us proud Carolyn! Watch some of the old Navy movies like "The Enemy Below" at the end and see how Robert Mitchum send the rescue rope between his destroyer and the German U-boat to get the idea about using the light rope as a lead rope Stay safe with the bears!

I'm thinking back to my early camping years in the Ozarks on Current River. It never dawned on us to be aware of bears. They had plenty of ground in those days. Now, they are getting pushed out of their natural habitat and I'm almost certain that my favorite spot is seeing bears. The last time I floated past it, a flood had washed it all away. Talk about being devastated! I was in tears. I was going to say that I would have gotten frustrated and pulled my camper over to that tree and got that rope over a good branch. You got it in the end and that's what matters! Good perseverance!

Loved your video! I live out in the woods and have a resident bear that has been visiting my property (let me restate that, he lets me live on his property) over the past 10 years. He is the most resourceful and determined bear I have ever seen. He would have had your trash down in less than an hour! He climbs up my large Ponderosa Pines where I have birdfeeders hanging approximately 25 feet off the ground at the very thin ends of substantial limbs of those pine trees. There is no way he could climb on the limbs without snapping them and falling down. So, what he does is as persistent as you are in hanging a bear bag! He climbs up the tree, hangs out at the base of the limb where it meets the tree and then chews and claws at the base of the limb where it grows out from the trunk of the tree until the limb finally gives way and bends or falls from the destroyed section he chewed and clawed at. This can go on for hours!! I have him on my game camera hanging out in the tree, destroying a huge limb to get those feeders to drop. He then shimmies down the trunk and claws at what is left of the smashed bird feeders that fell 20-25 feet. I have lost over a dozen healthy limbs on various pines and oak trees because of him "dropping" them to get to the bird feeders. He is worse than a pack of beavers! I finally had to quit hanging bird feeders. Final score.....Bear - One, Human - Zero. Anyway, I just had to share my bear story as there is no way he would have respect for any hanging bear bag. I will think of you now every time I see one of the destroyed limbs laying on the ground. Hahaha!

She’s got a great voice and it’s really cool to see how protective, of you and your home, she is. Well done, Sadie! Well done!!🐾❤️🐾 After watching the whole video……thank you! I’m so sorry but I laughed so hard. After today, I really needed that. I laughed because I can relate. I’m single (62F) so I have to do everything myself when I camp. I'm laughing at (with) you trying to toss the rope over the limb! I've done a fair amount of backpacking in the Sierras over the years and have had the similar experience. Yes, first of all, you have to find the "perfect" tree/limb; then, find the perfect rock to tie the rope around (not too heavy, not too light). Typically, I would end up laughing at myself and probably falling on my butt in the process. But, success was always (eventually) at hand. Keep up the fun/great videos! Gayle

I'd be very concerned about a bear, who doesn't run from human or dog. Acts like it's been habituated to both people & dogs. Maybe it's been feeding on area garbage cans...? Just an FYI if you don't already know.... I've been told by a Big Game Hunting Guide who lives, hikes & hunts in Grizzly country that Black bear are more dangerous than grizzlies. He states, black bear are more apt to be predatory than a grizzly. If they don't leave your area immediately or follows you as you retreat, it is most likely a predatory bear with you on his menu! 😲😬 Also, a bear has a n extremely high sense of smell. They can smell your food inside a tight closed cooler inside your RV/vehicles. Some have figured out how to break into vehicles of all types without any problem. Just best to be safe & leave the area when there's any type of bear activity, especially if they show no fear or appear to be more curious than afraid. Also keep Bear Spray handy & easy to grab if needed. It doesn't do anyone any good if they have it in their backpack, or vehicle when it's immediately needed. There's also any incidence/encounters with bears because of a free roaming dog. The bear goes after the dog & the dog runs back to it's people with the bear in hot pursuit!😲 That's definitely an "OH SHIT!" Moment! GOOD JOB getting your bear bag hung! Perseverance! 👍 Beautiful camp spot, but I'd probably have left to another area after that bear showed no fear or concern of your and/or Sadie's presence. Stay Safe! 👍

What a fun video, Carolyn!!! And the music is delightful! I enjoyed laughing with you. I've been there and done that! All my years of backpacking I have never been able to find the perfect tree with the perfect branch to hang my food. Luckily I never found a bear so hungry to steal my food! This is a great lesson for those who never tried this. I always tied a cord around a rock which required the perfect size rock and the perfect tie up to keep the rock on the cord. Congratulations on the successful hang!

I didn't read all the comments so forgive me if I echo someone else. One thing someone may need to consider is the art of counterbalancing your hang. In bear country with a lot of human interaction the bears can learn to break the cord that is tied to the lower branches of the tree or even another tree! I call it an art because it is very challenging!
