I agree all animals handle being handled differently. Not one the same. It could possibly make them closer to you I have watch farm video with chicken set in homes of people and visit. That never make a mess in home. I never thought they could be tamed down like that . On the Eddy family farm he has a rooster that rides the side by side with him so hey our feather friend can get pretty friendly and follow you around for actual attention. So y'all do you ignore those who do not like it

I don't believe that by handling the birds you will affect their working abilities. They are still going to eat ticks and all kind of bugs.

Happy birthday Shannon! 🎉🧁 Kyle, I got sick in my twenties. Bad food poisoning and severe flu at the same time. I couldn't eat any meat for 5 years without getting violently ill. Now 30 years later I can eat poultry and seafood. Listen to your body. Avoid the things that upset it. It will take time, but you will heal. With Shannon willing to make dietary changes with you, your journey will be so much easier.💖💖

I was diagnosed with alpha gal last June. I had a tick bite six weeks prior. Needless to say chicken, turkey and fish are big in my diet. I do miss beef, pork, and venison but have learned many ways to fix chicken. I also have to check marshmallows because they can have beef gelatin in them. Fortunately, I can still eat milk, cheese and ice cream. I did discover that the Chinese place that I eat at the North Park Mall (Joplin) does put pork in the mushrooms. 😢🥺 (Ground chicken burgers are great when cooked correctly.) Praying for you Kyle and Shanon. My husband has been a huge help/support during this.

The more you handle them. The more friendly they will be. Always make a point of feeding them in the coop area at night so they will know to return to the coop at night. I wouldn't feed them in the morning. I would just let them out in the morning and let them eat bugs and ticks all day. If you feed them in the morning they will already be full and not have as much incentive to forage. They will be most in danger of predators at night, so you want to make sure the always return to the safety of the coop at night. Feeding them in the coop area at night will make them more likely to come back to it. Be sure to build your roosting area to accommodate the different roosting preferences.

I love how Spruce wags that tail a hundred miles a minute. He is by far the prettiest little goat i have ever seen. The baby turkey that puts out his feathers is more likely a boy. So sorry to hear this Kyle..coming from someone on disability for having 2 rare conditions and 3 autoimmune conditions including lupus I know how difficult it is to come to terms with and how life altering it can be. It’s hard to find the positives sometimes and that’s ok…thank you and Shannon for keeping it real and being transparent..sometimes even if it’s not about your animals or land it’s a message that needs to be communicated for someone out there struggling and you are the vessel God chooses to use. A woman we know contracted this disease a few years ago. It took a bit for the diagnosis because this was relatively new, but eventually the doctors diagnosed AGS. She stopped eating red meat and lived on chicken, fish and other seafood . It took about 18 months before she started introducing red meat back into her diet. She appears to be doing well. I think when you pet them they will respond more to you, and I agree with Donna , feed less in the morning so they will forage, and feed at evening when you want to train them to go into their coop.

Happy Birthday Shannon, our youngest son turn 37, Take care Kyle, also, as for the birds, we raised friendly geese, turkeys and chickens, we raised them as if they was dogs, held them, love them, talk to them, and give them names, they will answer you back. I have watched other farms raise the flocks. Most that have time with the birds, they are much happier and the birds too.

Sorry to hear. I just heard someone is near to having a vaccine for Lyme disease. That sounds tough to deal with. Is the doc treating you with antibiotics? Please take care, if you have to skip filming, so be it. Thanks for sharing it might prevent someone else from ignoring ticks. It's a huge problem in new England. Take care.

The more you handle your birds the more friendly they become. As for the tick issues there's some plants you can plant or even make a spray to spread around area's that you frequently walk around. Be cautious around Hercules with them some of them can make him sick. Some good ones are Rosemary, Fleabane Daisy, Mint, Lemon Grass, Sage, and Lavender. Just be sure to check that these plants are safe to plant around your animals. I was recently tested for Lyme disease, so far it came back negative as of right now, but I don't go more than a week without pulling a tick out of my skin. Just be careful and check yourself many times a day. Hopefully you feel better soon. Much Love from our family to your family 💞

I had the same symptoms and I was sick as a dog. Chills, fever, body aches, headaches and just wanted to sleep. They weren't 100% positive but it may have been tick fever. They gave me 2 strong anti-bioatiocs and about 3 days I started feeling somewhat better, but it took a while to recover fully.

I've always handled my birds. They still ate the bugs and even some snakes. It made it much easier to call them in to roost in the coop at night where they were safe. And they loved being held so I couldn't really check them out and make sure they were healthy and good weight. They have natural instincts that no amount of cuddling will change..❤

I have tons of allergies and have been intubated 3 times - I almost did not survive to the hospital. Once you get it figured out and what your protocols need to be, life will be easier. I have not been intubated for allergies since 2012. Find your answers, let the doctors help, and you will get there. I had 1 doctor tell me to get rid of my cats (not allergic to animals) anyway, so find one who will work with you, and you will get there - I promise you. My prayers are with you all!

I can only imagine how frustrating and fearful a tic issue is. My brother went through it, spent time in the hospital after one outbreak feeling like crap. Mega doses of antibitics. I hope your situation isn't as serious as he is/was. Happy Birthday Shannon and Happy Anniversary to you Both !

It's good to handle the babies so they get used to it in case you need to check them later for injuries ect. It won't freak them out if they know you aren't going to hurt them. I have 12 hens they all let me pet them a bit but 2 are special & will jump on my lap on their own. Happy Birthday Shannon!

Happy Birthday Shannon 🎉 Today my youngest grandson turned 2. He was the happiest little guy celebrating his Birthday. The birds just handled them they will get use to you. Kyle prayers for you for healing. I have a health issue of chronic pain thirty years, from a surgery that went wrong. You learn to keep your mind strong against the mental issues that comes with dealing with something that you don’t know where or what road you will be going down. I hope the health issues can be addressed and you will have complete healing 🙏🏻

Sending prayers that the Drs can figure out what is going on. Handling the birds should not stop them from doing their job of free ranging, just don't over feed them once they are out and about. Keep the feeding near the coop in the evening so hopefully they will go back in. The "playpen" on the goat yard is good to have if you ever need to seperate one of them for some reason like one of the females having babies.

I am so sorry. My heart breaks for you both. Kyle I can’t stand the fact that you are so sick. It truly breaks my heart. I just want to say that you have half the battle won, since Shannon will eat what you have to. I had to go gluten free and no one wanted to deal with that so I had to do it on my own. It’s not easy. I’m so proud of Shannon that I want to claim you kids as my own! Love you and praying

Little man Spruce is so glad to see you all. Love Bleu ... So cute to watch Spruce take his bottle! I noticed how Bleu is eating also. lol I am the same way with my chicken coop? I scoop it out every morning. I love him with his bones ... he was so cute. Goodness ... how they all are growing! I think they are so funny how they poof up and strut their stuff. lol They are growing so fast! OH ... Happy Birthday to you Shanon!!! All the best to you and Congratulations on your anniversary. Yes, your animals are very special. Spruce's horns are getting so long. Herc is so cute and funny. Wow, I hope you have a complete recovery from this tick disease. All the best to you and Shanon. Insects do not like Lemon Balm .. grow it in several places and when you come outside pull off some leaves and rub it on exposed skin and even clothing and hopefully this will help. All the best!

First off, HAPPY BIRTHDAY SHANON! You can never over handle the birds, it's not in their nature to be loveable but they can be friendlier. Kyle I will keep you in my prayers. I can't imagine having to give up meat & and potatoes, but I sure would give it my best college try if it would keep me healthy. I've been battling a case of summertime pneumonia, so I get the no energy thing. Hopefully, whatever it is that you have is going to be a temporary thing & you'll be back up to 💯 quickly!

Handle them a lot...they will still do their job. Some turkeys can be mean so you want to handle them. Happy birthday Shannon and Happy 10th Anniversary. And yes you guys provide tons of love to your pets and that is great. I hope Kyle starts feeling better and can go back to steak...I am like you...love my steak. It is scary.

Handling your birds will make them more people friendly, and they will still do their job out in the yard. The Turkey who puffs up and drags the wing feathers I think is a male, males do that but didnt think they did it so young. Happy Birthday Shannon.
