This chord trick will blow your mind. How did he come up with this?! Ed King from Lynyrd Skynyrd wrote this amazing guitar chord trick in the middle of the song I Need You. It's a fantastic guitar lesson for any guitarist looking to improve their rhythm playing.

It seemed as though Ed was underappreciated even by his own band members. I could never get enough of Ed. Thank You!

He absolutely was not under appreciated by the band. They were absolutely lost when Ed quit.

I hear what you're saying but unfortunately I think it also had to do with the fact that although Ed King was a talented musician he was also an outsider from California of all places and who knows maybe Gary and Allen may have felt a little threatened by that talent. They all had the same love and appreciation for music and the same work ethic but culturally Ed King could not relate to the rough-and-tumble Jacksonville Westside upbringing. Undeniably though those three on the stage the best guitar lineup Skynyrd ever had!

Ronnie appreciated Ed's talent & gift. + he was honestly a better "classroom" musician than Gary or Allen, but they all 3 brought magic. Sadly even Ed pointed out in interviews, he felt an outsider. And pointed to pictures of the band. They were kids together. Ed was a CA hippie. Steve fit in with their redneck backgrounds better. ALL amazing musicians, and Magic in a bottle. Rest in Peace boys. Your music & legend lives on 🎶

@@rnicholasmartin1335 Well they brought ED back for the tribute tour and the last Rebel tour as well as the acoustic tour, which I attended all three as well I saw the original band in 77. Ed was much more of an intellectual type that’s all where the others guys were drinkers and Hell raisers although Ed and all of them partied hard. 😜🤘

Ed kicked them to the curb. They felt it too and Steve kicked it back in gear. They were lost without him. RIP Ed

Crazy thing is they all were so laid back and relaxed. Most lead singers run all over stage like axl rose. Ronnie came out bare footed and just stood there. His stage presence was that strong. Standing there singing from deep within. Demanded respect. Discipline and all eyes focused on the man.😮

I’ve been watching you for a few years now and your Skynyrd knowledge is by far the best I’ve seen. I’ve been rocking this song since 1974 when it came out. Thankfully I had an older brother that turned me on to A lot of good music including LS and the Brothers. Keep up the great work.

Love the Skynyrd stuff you do, was a huge fan of that group back in the 70s, I really connected with their guitar playing. I Need You was a song I loved, Ed's guitar work in that song was so great, very Southern sounding vibe yet he was from California.

I Need You is the most underrated Skynyrd song I love it. It’s as good or better than the big hits and I’d rather hear it than Sweet Home Alabama or Freebird anytime.

Ed was a gracias guy, and would answer questions and loved talking about his stuff, this song blew my mind when it first came out i played it over and over, There is a one note stop that sounds like a mistake that i always thought was kept in the song anyway after the take because it was just so god dam cool! Ed confirmed it was intentional! Listen to this song, as shown, its chord structure is brilliant, as he always was.. But one note properly placed can say so much, he played with more feel than any other player i ever heard. Please listen to his solo on “am i loosin” He had it… Rest my friend…..

Remember reading somewhere (I think anyway), EK saying he was really proud of this song. Pretty sure he said then too, that the band wrote INY the very same day they cane up w/ SWA and one other song as well but I can't remember which one right now. Remember him saying, "Not bad for a day's work" or some kinda dismissive but still proud of himself/themselves line. RIP Ed King we love you, man.

My three favorite guitarist of all time are Ed King, Jack Pearson (Leroy Parnell TheAllman Brothers), and Audley Freed (Cry of Love)..and it depends on how I feel on any particular day which one I'm in the mood for. YOU, my friend, have the best handle on Ed King of anyone I've ever heard. Genius is in the details!.. and you definitely have an ear for the details. Thank you so much for sharing the details of the Genius of Ed King!

Can't belileve they never played this one live, it's one of my favorites. Quick story, I had a black buddy in the Navy in the early 90's who was nothing but a rap fan... he was actually a wannabe rapper and recorded some stuff. I always tried to get him to listen to and appreciate some of my music. He never liked it much until he heard this song. He thought "I Need You" was the shit, lol!

As soon as I got the Second Heliping album in '74 I stole that lifted D over C form move from Ed... Cool sound.. especially with the slow tremelo added. Palm muted staccato lick before the final verse 🤘

Tom, I am adicted to your video's . Have learned so much. I got one of those Glarry Strats. I got it to try out a custom painting idea. Painted it like a really distressed flag. Pretty cool. Then I bought a Mexican strat alnico loaded pickguard and put in it. Turned into a pretty cool strat. Not bad for around $150

Hat's off,Hombre...you be nailing the Skynyrd picker's unique styles. I spent over a year trying to figure that whole pattern out. Ed was as genuis as everybody else in the band; Skynyrd needed that outsider talent brought in by Ed,Artimus,Steve. But for reals...where did Ed learn that stuff? Amazing talent inside Hell House. You are an inspiring picker,yourself--keep it up!
