It's been a challenge with active pick-ups, but with the help of mods I'm getting there with that sweet tone. Finger strength & flexibility seems to be the key. Not as easy as it sounds at my age . So much easier NOT to just play metal. Love your lessons. Incredibly inspiring.😗

I would say that the right amp makes a big difference. I'm thinking back when I started playing in the early eighties we didn't have inexpensive modeling amps.

Thanks for the video Tom. For outdoor gigs, it would probably be cool to run your Katana/boss through a Marshall 4 -12 cabinet.

Gary used to like the bends of Paul Kossoff style. Forget about the fast players, there is more soul and feeling in the slower Gary Rossington styles for sure.

You said to fret the note right in the middle of the fret...What do you mean by this? Is this the fret wire or the middle of the finger board btw the two frets or the middle of the guitar string or some combination? Love the content on your channel! thanks, Tom.

Love to know.what your Katana settings are too. I know that isn't the only thing, a minor piece.of the puzzle

and then you add guitar changes, i like my fender starcaster but my lp's are more suited to this style. my tele's are just harder to get this sound but i love playing them. keep teaching you're good at this. now off to play some skynard.

When I could barely walk I picked up a guitar and did bends and slides to be cute for mom and pop. Later I discovered I could play the turntable and played Beethoven and Bach, but pop didn’t seem to think it was cute or cool.

Ok, Tom, I'm halfway through, and you haven't yet mentioned playing confidently, with authority. Well, actually, you did mention playing with confidence at the very beginning, and I thought you were going to go somewhere with it, but so far, you haven't mentioned it again. I'm not the only one, Tim Pierce talked about playing with confidence, then he later fine-tuned it by saying "with authority." That's how I've always thought I'd it. You have to "mean it." If you're playing wimpy, it'll sound weak, and just crappy. Even if you're only playing a few notes, ya gotta play thee notes like you MEAN them! Yeah, finger strength is important, but that can take time to develop. Playing like you MEAN it can happen just like that.

Bend intonation is a big deal. The two things that "out" non-Pros for me is bad bend pitch and manic vibrato. Legato vibrato and even playing slightly behind on fills and solos is the way to go. It teases the human ear.

I just bought the november burst through sweet water i have plugged into two diferent amps i own and i cannot get it to sound decent i am very disappointed i hear your gibson there and the sound is inspiring my new gibson is not inspiring me but frustrating me it could be the double coil pick ups i am used to single coil i just dont know..............

Hate to say it but that Epi sounds as good (if not better) than the LP. Of course, as you say, that could be because of the way you play.

Tom I tried to message you on your website, I didn't know if you would answer it or not, if you can't that's fine.

No way man, finger next to the fret. Fret height, string gauge, all that stuff has less of an impact if you get close. Play bass for a while and you'll see how much of a difference it makes. The fret is the note. Play slide guitar if you don't believe me. Also all of my comments are copyrighted so don't steal my insight. Thanks champ!
