Check out the rest of our Corvette build videos here!: • The Abomination Corvette
When I set out to revive a terrible engine that had been on fire, I had no idea what I was getting into. That project died a hard death with Chevy High Performance was shut down a couple years ago. But I never forgot about it, and when it came time to dream up an engine for my 1980 Corvette project, it seemed like the perfect opportunity to pull it out of mothballs and way overbuild it so it will probably rip the Corvette in half. Because after all, overkill is underrated!

Did you actually measure the head volume and piston deck height, piston volume... if not, you have no idea of the compression ... just a wild guess, which is extremely poor engine building by a so called professional. #2.... what was the cranking pressure...again if that wasn't checked, very poor engine building skills. After all that, I would never ever run 10:1 comp with a 247 deg cam... torque will suffer drastically.... needs at least 11:1.... c'mon guys, this is kindy stuff, get your act together. Another point is you mentioned head flow being 370cfm.... you didn't mention if you actually flow tested the head... so, saying it flowed 370,doesn't mean a thing unless you see it with your own eyes... and as we all know, that figure is usually at .700 plus lift, no low, mid range figures, and also very few heads flow the advertised numbers.... so when the power number don't add up, you haven't got a clue where the hp went...??? Also, no mention of mcsa, which is extremely important into matching cam to rev range. You do a great job of explaining what bits and how you put them together , but, garbage in equals garbage out. Remember, the hp you missed out on is the hp you need to worry about??? Sorry to be so negative, but these are very basic 1st week engine designing rules. Hopefully next time you'll take a bit more care.

I’m building a 1982 C3 as I said in another comment. Some day a 82 anniversary Vette will be worth some money. But I’m buying it from a buddy, with the original fresh build 350 engine that only made 200hp. I’m going to strip the car and install a cage. Use the fresh short block with a set of Aluminum high flow heads from Trick - Flow. A nasty cam with springs and lifters. Smash the Cross-fire system. He has a new aluminum intake with a 750 Holley. I truly believe I can make 400-450hp with this engine. With a Nitrous Express plate with spray bar it will make over 500-550hp with a 150-200 shot of Nitrous after further research. I plan to install a man pedal with a Tremec TKX 5spd. I’m not worried about hurting this engine, because I really want a LS setup like you have. It should get under 3,000 pounds when I’m finished. We need more videos like this for guys on a budget. I will only have $5,000 bucks in a rust free C3 Vette with a fresh 350. Body is very clean with solid floors and no cracks or fading in the fiberglass. With a new TKX I will have around $10-$12k with new wheels and tires. Race seats and a safe cage. My buddy already put new suspension in the car with new heavy duty half shafts. I will have a killer street/strip car for around $10k. With a few late nights and weekends and help from some buddies I will have a fun C3 Vette that I’m not afraid to beat on. My long term goal for the car is a fresh 6.2LS with a TorqStorm supercharger. Then I will have a 10 second C4 for under $20k. Perfect car for some Drag & Drive events. Guys need to see that you can still build a fast car in the garage on a budget. Having a nice looking C3 that run 12’s for around $10. Or a badass C3 that runs 10’s with a new LS for under $20k. Guys think you have to spend $50k or more for a nice car. Just not true. Love videos like this. 🇺🇸🦅🏁Had to make a second comment on this video. It’s that good. Shows you don’t need a big bank account to have perfect fun car ..

I built an 11.8 CR 416 with a 240/250 .623 .617 114 cam and Stage 2.5 WCCH LS3 heads with a stock L92 intake and 90mm TB that made 530whp in a TBSS. The LS3 heads are really impressive on a 4.065"+ bore only, on a 4" bore they're a dog. After you get it built you should compare that intake to the BTR Equalizer, Fast, ported stock intake and a Texas Speed Performance Titan.

Just found your channel, liked/subscribed, noti. bell. 1980, 81, 82 Body style is still one of my favorite cars. I bought a one year old 1981 black on black 4-spd , put a full suspension kit on it nylon bushings, koni shocks, ++ , black Epsilon wheels - the only maker I know of that produced a wheel that didn't need spacers. Put 90K miles on it in 8 years. Sold it. In 1991 I bought an 11 year old black on black 1980 L-82 with 10K miles on it, planned on doing all the suspension etc. again and supercharging it, but it was just to nice a car to do all to - or so I thought. I paid $16,500 for it, a lot of money 31 years ago. OK looking forward to seeing your C-3 Corvette build burning rubber.

That forethought about the alternator situation on a race oriented motor is nice! I’m fighting that battle right now on an SBC in a 3rd gen F body that originally was equipped with a 10SI alternator. I’ve burned up 2 or 3 now. They worked fine until a couple trips up to my 6500 rpm redline then fail shortly after. I do stress them a little more than usual with the addition of EFI and a much higher capacity electric fan though.

I would think that is a lot of duration for a street motor with heads that flow that good. I think a different cam could easily pick that thing up 50+hp and maybe even get 50ft-lb torque too. 23:50 I don't care for that stepped transition in the intake either. That could be causing some turbulence that kills that head with that intake. It would be neat to flow them together on the flow bench to see if that intake hurts it a bunch.

I'm loving it! All internal combustion engines are only 30% efficient which leaves only RPMs or forced induction or displacement. On a streetable engine without a poweradder, you have to go big! I'm lovin it! I can't wait to see how that Corvette turns out! I'm really loving the aluminum wheels and fiberglass composite transverse monoleaf springs in that car, not to mention your work on the chassis! You got one of the best of the C3s! If you haven't checked out Dave McLelland's book on Corvette development, you should get it. It's a fantastic history of the car and will answer some great questions! Cathedral port "originally called tear drop port" heads make big power with the right combo, ppl that revert back to rectangular ports probably have rectangular port shaped heads above the shoulders. Good choice for the build! Also needs a crank driven blower if it's possible to fit the C3. That many cubes will benefit more from a blower IMO, also seems like the cam fell off early. Maybe I'm missing the point that the cam might have been chosen for a blower application to begin with, that'd definitely get those torque numbers up but 250hp over stock is nothing to cry about, the C3 would be a handful with those numbers alone.

I'd. -Swap the intake for a Holley hi-ram with dual 4-bbl efi throttles. -Ditch the Fitech for a more capable ecu. With enough I/O for oil, coolant and fuel pressure+temp sensors. Can never have too much data. It's the best way to protect the $$ invested in the long block. An ecu will pick low oil pressure, loss of fuel pressure or high coolant pressure seconds before you happen to glance at a gauge, or start to hear/feel something off.

It’s a good engine build, however it should have made WELL over 600. The LSA on the cam is way too wide. Period. For N/A it should be 110 at most, probably 108…. And it’s great power for such low compression but unless it’s going to see boost it could have been 12:1 and still ran on pump gas. Those 2 changes would have gotten it well into the mid 600 range. I’ve built a few max effort n/a LS engines and know this from my own trial and error. My last 416 with stock casting 823 heads and a custom GPI cam made 730hp.

It may be sacrilegious but you can have too much power for a given chassis. If you don't believe look at the blown Mercury that really had no business being driven on the road IMO. I'm not saying this is. Just that there does come a time when sense makes sense.

I bet they rate it at 700hp because of injector sizing not the intake's ability to make that much power

@@TheHorsepowerMonster from my testing experience those intakes are pretty bad. We would often see them kill up to 40 ftlbs and possibly make 5hp right at peak, as I'm sure you are well aware

You are making me so crazy. I have built a few engines since 1965. Some good ones were the old 81 with a Vortech then the 98 LS1 Iron Block with a Magnuson. Which Could have really used those Brodick Heads. I had Brodick Heads on my 468 Rat which ran in the 9's in a 64 Coupe. Now I own a 2014 LT1 Z51 A6 but no money to mess with it. Argh!

Do you mean trans? Probably a 4L80E to get started. The Corvette is an automatic car and I want to get it up and running as quickly as possible.

I have seen some pretty poor quality from FItech specifically for there fitech throttle body fuel injection and some shitty customer service.
