There are a lot of fees involved with docking a houseboat you don't think of. Plus you need to winterize it. And it might be a tad cold in the winter. But cute for summer.

So I lived on a boat in college in the Seattle area, and the water is surprisingly insulating. Even when it's colder than freezing outside, the water keeps the boat a bit warmer (40 degrees or so) than you would expect. A small heater, or the stove they have, usually suffices. Of course, NYC is colder than Seattle in general. Good luck to the hardy sailors who make this a home

Yeah, so storms were not fun. I remember one in particular when I had just had my wisdom teeth out and was still groggy from the anesthesia. For the most part we would just "batten down the hatches" and call a friend to stay with when it got too rough. Our marina was pretty protected. Overall, it was a fun experience and I'd tentatively recommend it! @@653j521

That’s a fairly well protected area, it’d have to be a major storm with a storm surge to cause problems. You’d have to put it in the hard.

I had a good friend & his brother was an airline steward. He was based in Hawaii & lived on a houseboat in Honolulu. I always thought that was about as good as it got right there. Unfortunately, he couldn’t stop smoking weed & got fired from the airlines😞

Lots of people live on boats in the deep south. Work remotely? Live off the land? Get a job on a yacht or cruise ship? You might find it is a blessing and a curse. Don't waste your life envying others.

Happy Labor Day Cash. That houseboat is a seafarer's haven. The second story deck is cozy yet functional. The bedroom has ample space and the quirky, tasteful deco has a true personality all its own. I like the idea of moving (or in this case) "float away" from any annoying neighbors. That's the jackpot perk right there! Great place to live, but it gets crazy 🧱 (cold) during the winter months. But since the house is properly outfitted, it probably won't be an issue staying warm. Thanks Cash 👍.

U should come to London and tour some houseboats. There are so many, lot of people live on these as the rent situation is as bad as in NYC. London has some nice canals too so it makes a difference.

It’s actually very easy to take care of. It’s totally winterized. Slip fees only…No rent on top of that. It’s the answer if you love to fish, surf and hang at the beach!!

That was AWEsome. In Victoria, BC we have 2 floating-home marinas; my brother lives on a sailboat at a 3rd marina but it gets cold because the keel is in the water. This is one of the nicest coolest pontoon houseboats I've seen. Probably nicer than my 1-bdrm apartment. ...Wait, it's only $250K to buy??

This is probably the first Airbnb that he has featured on his channel that I would consider renting. OOPS! There was some townhouse somewhere in Brooklyn that I would consider too but that one was an expensive rental. I liked this! Did anyone else notice how spotless clean and shiny all of the appliances were? They were as if they were brand new!

@@MamaCarola1 I have just recovered from the contact high that I blissfully (and imagined) that I received from the wondrous odors of all the Murphys Oil used to maintain all of that BEAUTIFUL wood flooring in that $1.5M property featured last week!!!! I LOVED EVERYTHING about that property except for wishing it was on a larger lot of land! LOL!!! No... what truly happened is that my laptop failed (and now in the shop) and I've had to rely on phones and tablets to do my work, etc

@@MamaCarola1 It really is NOT a fun time. I never realized how reliant I am on my laptop. These tablets and phones are for the birds (or younger people) because while I have all of them I'm just not comfortable using them because of their size and just not comfortable using them.

My friend Jerry, who has passed, had a great boat to live on. We used to have fun exploring the rivers where we lived. I remember sunning myself on the roof and watching alligators swimming around. Going to take a pass for now but we will go into the water later. :)

People really have no idea about the sea and surf culture that has developed in Far Rockaway! This is a quirky and fun place, but there are beautiful condos and small homes near the beach!

The layout is nice, but the decor is chaotic! I visited a houseboat on Lake Union in Seattle. The boat was at the very end of a dock with a dozen other houseboats moored on it. They were really crammed together. The houseboat had low ceilings; perhaps seven feet. The kitchen had adequate counter space and a small oven. There were two bedrooms up top and a head on the lower deck. It did have a feature not found on many of houseboats. It had a washer and dryer in a cramped “basement deck!” Boat owners had to park their cars in a small lot up by the street. It was a long walk down to the pier and then a longer walk to the end of the pier to reach your house! Oh, and a California earthquake was felt by people on the Seattle houseboats! (Landers 7.5 quake woke people on the Lake Union houseboats!)

Random stuff everywhere. Some may see that appeal, but fewer items strewn about is better. Clean that place from the random stuff/junk, get a coffee table/dining table which has no wobble and it is certainly a winner.

Those types of houses are pretty common on rivers and canals (like on the Seine in Paris and around where I have seen few) but have no ideas we had few in New York. Very interesting!

I've always wanted to live or at least own a Houseboat, since I saw the 1958 movie of the same name, with Cary Grant & Sophia Loren (hoped that she came with it!) Then, I saw the 1960 t.v. show "Surfside Six", set on a Miami based Houseboat & that confirmed it! (In 1963, I actually went on that boat, then turned into a bar!) Unfortunately, it never turned into reality, but I'm still dreaming!

Yikes! $4200? Very cool house boat. I live on the Oregon coast and there are some people who live in a marina close by on vessels. But, in the Portland area there are lots of floating homes which are stationary unless towed elsewhere. I had thought of buying one but the docking fees get more expensive all of the time. Bought a small house across from the ocean. Still like looking up house boats and floating homes online. Thanks for the video. Kathleen

There’s a woman I am friends with on Facebook. I think we were to high school together. Her family owns a houseboat and travels all over to different places that sound amazing to me. It sounds like a great way to live. Unfortunately my husband gets seasick so it wouldn’t work for our family. What a neat place!
