Personally I immediately distance myself from anyone that tells me that they love me (romantically) especially if the relationship is relatively new, it just seems disingenuous and like they're trying to manipulate me. Had a conversation with a friend who was quite educated about love from his wise grandfather. His grandfather taught him that love isn't the temporary excitement you feel when you're in a relationship, and lots of men and women out there start thinking when that excitement starts fading away, it means they are falling out of love, when that isn't true. It's hard to describe love in a perfect way, but the best way to know that you love someone is (based on what his grandfather said which I agree with) when you can't imagine your life without them if there are ever moments that you feel you're falling out of love, or maybe exploring whether you truly love them or not.

Saying I love you while drunk really doesn’t mean anything…even for girls. Once when I was blacked out drunk I apparently told a guy that I loved him, even though in reality I was planning to stop talking to him soon since I wasn’t feeling the chemistry anymore. I was literally shocked when I found out I said that and I had no idea why I told him that. I had to explain it to him I didn’t actually mean it and it was horrible. Yes people might say the truth sometimes when they’re drunk, but you also shouldn’t take what an intoxicated person said seriously

I stayed in a relationship for a few years. We enjoyed each other's company, had romantic and sexual chemistry, and there were no issues. Then I realized, if we never saw each other again, I would not miss him at all. Without any apparent reason I broke up with him and true enough, I did not care. I think love does not necessarily come with time. It is true that you can be sexual and romantic with someone but if you can just cut them off, you don't really love them.

Yeah there's something to this. I was dating my current husband years ago, we did the same as this and decided we didn't want something serious cuz we were both tired of being hurt. We were fwb for about 3-4months before I realized I was falling for this man. So I told him, we gotta commit to the or I'm bouncing to find someone to actually date. It wasn't an ultimatum, it was the truth, I was sick of the fwb games and wanted something real. As soon as he realized I wasn't going to accept that type of relationship he knew he had to risk it and commit to me. I wasn't worth him losing and never seeing me again. 9yrs later and we have built an amazing life together. It's not perfect by any means but it works and we both push each other to be better every day.
