It's way more than just that. If you think about it as storing either a 1 or a 0, it can get really powerful. This can be as simple as a reprogrammable combination lock, but people can also use it for memory banks in computers or basically anything that requires storage-especially since it's moveable. It also functions as a really easy binary counter. Also, it toggles on single game ticks, as opposed to the 2 game ticks of pretty much everything else, which means that lots of things can be faster. For example, pistons can be moved on 3 game tick intervals, so this allows them to be moved at the fastest possible speeds. It was previously possible, but it was large and clunky, which this is not. If not for the crafter, this would probably be the most significant redstone block in years, and it may end up even more useful than the crafter.

I think it's more useful than the crafter because the crafter only crafts things. It's a fairly specific use scneario. I'm sure that people will be able to use it for more than that. For example it can be a better timer or something. But the copper bulb is going to have way more widespread use. It's going to be used in a lot of contraptions just like a piston or a hopper.

I had the idea to create a series of stations that direct a series of flying machines. The flying machines have a set of copper bulbs that encode their destination and then the stations point the flying machines in the direction it should go based on it's destination code. This code would be incredibly compact because with just 4 bulbs you could encode as many destinations as I could find reasonable on single player, 6 bulbs is the max I can see a small multiplayer server using, and 8 bulbs is more than you would need for even a large server's public transportation service

Apparently the other big thing that the copper bulb does is that it takes only 1 tick to activate rather than 1 redstone tick (2 game ticks) allowing for more precise timing in circuits

Way back I remember someone created a working Gameboy that played Pokémon in Minecraft. Was it Sethbling, I don't recall? But anyways using these bulbs you can quite literally make computer memory using the on/offs as 1s and 0s which should make recreating a Gameboy game in Minecraft 100x easier! Infact, it would be huge work but you could totally code the entire game using Redstone and these bulbs.

Genuinely this is such a cool little quality of life feature for wiring
@overpower3382
@overpower3382 7 ай бұрын
It's not quality of life, it's revolutionary. Because, it toggles on and off not just from a button, but from any pulse, and that pulse could be anywhere within a redstone circuit. Plus it's transparent, movable by pistons and works in a single game tick as opposed to a redstone tick, so timing can be much faster. And there's more. Because it has an indicator for when it's powered, it can set off an observer on both the rising and the falling edge. I guarantee you, new redstone computers and contraptions are gonna have these all over the place.
@vibaj16
@vibaj16 7 ай бұрын
@@overpower3382 Still mostly just quality of life. Target block also appears all over the place, not because it's "revolutionary", just cause it's a good quality of life feature. Copper bulbs will mostly just slightly compact certain circuits, make interfaces a bit nicer, etc. Anything it can do could already be done at most a block or two bigger. The only exception I can think of is writable feedtape memory, but even that isn't particularly revolutionary. It's slow and not the most compact form of memory. Item memory is a lot better in many ways.

Ignore me! I was thinking of an Observer, -which I think would work just as well except for the oxidization weakness- (actually it would be a pulse, never mind again!), but the Comparator shouldn't have to worry about it. Something that would be cool though was if more oxidized Bulbs emitted lower Redstone signals from Comparators, so if it wasn't properly built and/or maintained your wiring could degrade, like real life. -It should be noted that you probably want to use a Waxed Copper Bulb for this mechanism, since otherwise I expect the Comparator will pick up each time the Bulb oxidizes so it may activate a few times you don't want it to.-

Another redstone engineer pointed out theres even more the bulp can do that is revolutionary that you did not cover Redstone signals usually only update per 2 ticks and some redstone system require it to work on single tick instead, so they usually had 2 systems working together seperately with one with an offset of single tick, which is extremely complicated and stuff well it turns out the copper bulb send redstone signal trough observers in a Single tick, instead of 2 ticks, which is absolutely revolutionary for simplifying a lot of extremely complicated redstone machines and thats not just all of it, some redstone contraptions used T flip flops to hold memory of 1's and 0's yes literal Solid state memory the bulb can do that in single block, contain 1's and 0's with copper bulb redsotne engineers might go above and beyond and make literal games, run doom on minecraft using redstone by simply writing the game's code into bulbs from raw machine binary code
